@HazelAppleyard 1 is definitely a comfy choice, not really a challenge. But 2 is a unique experience that might be hard to get otherwise.

@whothehellsjack Wait... you only sell $600-2000 per shift? Isn't that way too low? Considering the usual retail margins, I don't see how they're breaking even by employing you.

@jayphoward @stanfordNYC @AlexGodofsky That's a bit different. The price is a representation of the resources used, so if you're feeling that it might be better to use the money for something else, then yes, you may be making a mistake by watering.

@stanfordNYC @AlexGodofsky I feel a little guilty for watering my yard in the summer because it's freaking expensive, and I could arguably be doing something more helpful with that $.

A substantial fraction of humans simply are not mentally equipped to think about the environment. Environmentalists are sick, sadistic, evil people for inflicting ideas like conservation and recycling on them.

This is pitiful, and of course there's no excuse for lying to the public. But I think people like this will always be unhappy. The tempermentally guilty people will find something to feel guilty about, the idiots will find something to misunderstand. In another age, the guilty ones would be obsessing over the impurity of their own sexual desires or something.

@HabCorpLinguist Being a unionized public sector worker sounds sweet, all that money for easy work. The only downside is the knowledge that all you have comes from the extortion of the public.

Has the LIRR strike news made its way over to the Brits yet? I feel like if they hear people are debating whether $140k+ is enough money to punch tickets on a train, they'll have a stroke.

@EigenGender It’s just bad product design, this kind of failure should be happening in the thinking layers instead of in the output

i use it 100% for log analysis, i have to sift through tons of logs and i hate manually doing this with cmtrace (windows sysadmin). so i have some .sh files where it's like, ok run this script, then pipe it into a gemini sh command, and have it analyze the logs for me and spit out a .txt file or something. then i can just read the .txt file and get a general idea if something broke, what caused it.

I had an interview for an IT role and asked the sysadmin (🚩 title in 2026 tbh) I’d be junior to how he’s using AI in his work. “oh, I haven’t touched it yet. waiting for the bubble to burst, then I’ll take a look.”

Wife works as a data scientist at a major tech company. She says some 10x engineers are now 100x engineers, while other people have completely missed the memo and are still doing things by hand. Huge disparity in adoption, but the adopters are massively productive.

@rushicrypto lots of billionaires use energy, why wouldn't they want cheaper sun energy?

The sun hits the Earth with 10,000 times more energy than we use. Every. Single. Day. We're not running out of power. We're just stuck using the wrong kind-because billionaires don't own sunlight.

@_squf @callanable I'm curious, what use have you found for having Claude or such run automatically from startup files? Not a sysadmin myself.

@callanable why is my job title a "red flag in 2026" and also personally i love the cli tools like claude code, gemini cli, codex cli, etc. did you know you can even call the cli tools directly from .sh and other startup files!? its very neat

@TheMindScourge @planefag SpaceX may have an advantage here, as a famous company doing very cool work. Though I do think most large companies have a backlog of qualified candidates that they could reach out to in a pinch.

@Founder_Mode_ > Elon just did that within 2 days Love Elon. 100%, yes. But you know there is no way "100%" of those quick hires worked out. No way. 0 chance. What % had to be dismissed after it was obvious they were hired too quickly? 25%? 50%?

One of my favorite Elon story is when he had an all-hands meeting at 1am on a Sunday at the SpaceX factory in Boca Chica. He asked his team one question: why isn't this factory running 24/7? His engineers said they needed more people to run shifts. 48 hours later, SpaceX had hired 252 workers and doubled the factory workforce. Most companies and CEOs would have scheduled a planning meeting to discuss the staffing gap and take weeks to hire those people. But Elon just did that within 2 days.

“A maniacal sense of urgency is our operating principle.” — @elonmusk “Elon hired a machinist, negotiated his salary, and had him start—all in one conversation. On a Saturday at 6 PM.” “Most companies take two weeks to do what he does in an hour.”

@levityproducer @sonyasupposedly If you're genuinely having trouble finding work, negotiation may not be your top priority. Also I doubt it hurts much, everyone knows the online applications are flooded, it's a problem for both job seekers and hiring.

@HazelAppleyard Don't worry, after a few days of this you'll cause hyperinflation and costs will start to rise. Soon loaves of bread will cost millions of dollars and it won't be a challenge to keep your money under 1 Billion.

@HazelAppleyard @avi_eisen You could talk to the bank and set up massive automated asset purchases. Just need that process to always work, without ever having an outage last more than 4 days. You can also make a donation to the IRS of any size. Good to have that as a fallback if you just need to burn money
