A group of generous donors have pledged to match ANOTHER $500,000 of donations for @farmkind_giving. Huge thanks to: @seemaychou & @JedMcCaleb: $250,000 @gauravkapadia: $100,000 @ArielNessel: $50,000 (2nd donation) @tylermaule: $50,000 The Dahna Foundation: $50,000 If we saturate this next round of matching, we’ll have raised over $2,000,000. This amount would likely improve the lives of over 20 million animals! Again, it's hard to overstate how neglected this area is, and how crazy cheap the interventions that have spared hundreds of millions of animals from painful lives have been: x.com/dwarkesh_sp/st… I also want to thank everyone who helped saturate the previous matches. A few highlights: Anonymous: $13,000 @v_maini: $10,000 Anonymous: $10,000 @d_m_ziegler: $5,000 Nick Bostrom: $5,000 Anonymous: $5,000 Anonymous: $5,000 @tessybarton: $3,000 @idavidrein: $3,000 @CFGeek: $2,500 @silas_strawn: $2,000 @tysheaff: $2,000 Anonymous: $2,000 Alexa Stone Fund (@tyler_m_john): $1,500 @Vincessant_: $1,500 @ravioli817: $1,500 @michaeljelly: $1,500 @_sholtodouglas: $1,000 (2nd donation) @verdadcap: $1,000 @jackm2003: $1,000 @RosieCampbell: $1,000 @sevdeawesome: $1,000 @gauravsett: $1,000 Link to donate below. DM me if you donate over 1k. We've already raised over $1.35 million dollars! With donation matching, we just need $300k in contributions to reach $2 million!

Well, the Commission promised an evolution, not a revolution – & that is exactly what we got. It’s unfortunate this is one of the times the Commission kept its promises I unpack the EU's new Vision for Agriculture & Food in my latest for ARC2020 👇 arc2020.eu/shortsighted-v…

After more months of industry lobbying, today's "vision" is even vaguer. There's now no timeline on when the EU will phase out cages. And the promise to phase out "other closed confinement systems" -- which was in a draft of this doc leaked just last week -- is now gone.

Almost all livestock in the United States is factory-farmed— It’s difficult to quantify animal suffering in a single number, but one metric often used to measure living conditions is the number of animals raised on “factory farms”. Factory farms are defined as “concentrated animal feeding operations” where many animals are held in an intensive feeding operation for more than 45 days. 99% of livestock in the United States is factory-farmed. This latest estimate comes from the Sentience Institute and is based on definitions and data from the US Environment Protection Agency. The chart shows the share of different forms of livestock that are factory-farmed. More than 98% of chickens, turkeys, hens, pigs, and farmed fish are factory-farmed. Cows are a bit less likely to be factory-farmed, but three-quarters still spend much of their lives in these conditions. (This Daily Data Insight was written by @_HannahRitchie.)

What does the EU's new budget plans mean for agriculture? First thoughts - a 🧵 1/ The entire EU budget will be divvied out like the CAP - with national plans approved by the EU. This we have a pretty good idea how that might go, like...

I'm very grateful for all the advocates fighting for factory-farmed animals -- and winning. And nothing says gratitude like money. So, this year-end, here are a few animal groups I'm donating to. (Not a complete list: there are many other great groups working for animals.)
