Hardest thing I've ever done with the smartest people I've ever met. Today we're announcing Tok-Edge - out of stealth with a $15M valuation, raising $21M at TGE with a $100M first close target. Institutional demand for digital assets is now validated with @BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF and @Strategy's digital asset treasury. But these are single asset products restricted to traditional finance rails – they don't touch DeFi, where capital markets are being rebuilt on-chain with 24-hour settlement, no centralised intermediaries and programmable infrastructure. We established Tok-Edge to bring institutional capital on-chain - as active participants. We maintain the structure and governance that institutional investors expect - while our new Redemption Token operates on public blockchains, designed to integrate with exchanges and DeFi protocols. Our approach is to make digital assets investable through a structure interoperable between traditional and decentralised finance. Links in comments. Contact: ir@tok-edge.com

"tokenized startups" will be the next meta. been tracking this space since january for my "structure of ICM piece". a few thoughts: > the goal of "tokenized startups" is to allow broader access (at least in price action) of VC-gatekept startups, creating "Internet Capital Markets" in the truest sense. > today, the fastest growing companies (SpaceX, Anthropic, Stripe) stay private for years/decades. access is gatekept, rather than like the IPOs of 20-30 years ago, when 18-month-old companies like Netscape could IPO. > the market has responded with adhoc fixes, the most obvious being the SPV which have grown 500% in last 2 years. the market's thirst for venture-performing assets needs to be quenched. > the idea for "tokenized startups" is not new - it rhymes with many things, including ICOs, DAO funds, tokenized SPVs, token-equity standoffs (eg. Aave/Axelar) , ownership coins, pre-ipo perps. > what's new is the set of primitives being used to build things (eg. closed end funds with Robinhood/USVC, tokenized SPVs with PreStocks, MetaDAO style launchpads, Ventuals styles perps). It's the wild west of experimentation. > the design space is just getting mapped out around now - some open questions include: 1. early stage vs late stage? are founders receptive or adversarial to tokenized markets? 2. pure price exposure (eg. via perps) vs. spot backing? 3. legal entity - SPV? Delaware CEF? Cayman token foundation? i would not be surprised if the major SF accelerators (YC/HF0/SPC etc.) are all actively experimenting on tokenization designs. having a "tokenized" basket of each batch (eg. YC W26) might unlock a ton of demand. more research on this topic incoming.... stay tuned....

"The vast majority of tokens have zero real connection to protocol revenue" - @DaveHsu Existing Token models are dead. I would hold equity in top protocols, @aave and @ethena, but not their Governance Token. The exact problem the @Tok_edge "Redemption Token" is built to solve.

First post in a new series: idlecycles.substack.com/p/a-tale-of-tw… Covers what DeFi gets right, where it still falls short, and what needs to be built to close the gap. Part 2 will get into the specific verticals and companies we're most excited about at @etherfi_VC.

@azaztrader01 great question - founder of @tok_edge here Redemption Tokens are not pegged and so their price are freely determined by market forces. However, if they trade at a discount to the underlying hedge fund net asset value (NAV), there is a financial “arbitrage” incentive for fund investors to buy tokens at a discount and redeem for the NAV to make a profit - therefore creating buy pressure (demand) if the Redemption Tokens trade at a discount. Some alpha for being part of the community - we will release our whitepaper very soon that goes into the detail on the mechanism design. Let me know if this answers your question. Thanks @monosarin for starting the conversation

This one's still flying under people's radars, but here's a TL;DR about @Tok_edge : What is it? It's a new crypto hedge fund started by people who used to work at big Wall Street-type firms (CVC, Bain, KKR, etc.) and also have crypto experience. Think of it as a bridge between TradFi and DeFi. They announced 2 things: They're worth $15M now. A known investor named Marcus Meijer (who founded a fund with $10B AUM) put in ~$1.5M, evaluating the company at $15M. He and a group of investors are expected to put up to $10M into the actual fund. Pretty based. Tok-Edge team invented something called a "Redemption Token." Here's how it works in simple terms: When you invest in their fund, you get two things: fund shares (which represent your actual ownership and money) and a Redemption Token (which is basically a "key" you need to cash out your shares). Here's the trick: the key /token can be traded freely on-chain, on DEXes, in DeFi, etc. The fund shares stay in the traditional regulated world. So it's like separating the "exit ticket" from the investment itself and letting that ticket float around on-chain. Why does that matter? Normally, hedge fund investments are locked up and illiquid (you can't easily sell your position). With this setup, if you want out early, you could sell your Redemption Token on the open market instead of waiting for a formal redemption window. It also opens the door for DeFi composability as users could build stuff on top of these tokens. How big is the fund? They're capping the launch at $21M, with 1 token issued per $1 invested. They're aiming for a $100M first close later in 2026. Basically: TradFi hedge fund meets on-chain liquidity layer. The Redemption Token is the novel piece, it decouples "the right to redeem" from "the ownership itself" and makes that right tradeable on public blockchains. Well, if it starts with a fat TVL, then DeFi adoption won't take long. Those are just my 2 cents, of course. I'm still keeping an eye on this one.

@christinaqi With @Tok_edge we just raised GP / VC funding an LP funding too Makes sense where the GP is differentiated and has an “edge” - eg the AI investment manager or a different GTM on how they plan to scale assets under management

It's been a while since I've seen a hedge fund raise GP/VC funding instead of LP funding. My hedge fund pulled this off 10+ years ago, but that was during the Quantopian era (sad that few remember Quantopian btw - I think they would've thrived with AI today). It's like the Spiderman meme cuz both VCs and HFs invest, just in early vs. post-IPO companies, usually. For a hedge fund to pull off seed funding, there either has to be an exit opportunity (if raising from VCs), an opportunity to invest in the fund (if raising from SFOs), or some crypto token thingy which is over my head lol. It's funny how THAT was my first impression when reading this (vs. everyone else being amazed by the "AI hedge fund" part). @chriskong118 @aaditsh Thanks for tagging me! I'll post separately about why AI hedge funds are starting to finally scale, when it's been talked about for so many years and seen so little success until recently.

@ZeMariaMacedo Two cents @ZeMariaMacedo - tokens historically with SAFTs gave liquid optionality for equity investors (hence the premium) - but in practice these (governance) tokens have no function and trend toward a price of zero We need new token models -> plug: @Tok_edge

For years, saying you were doing a token got you an automatic valuation premium. This pulled in a lot of teams that had no real reason to be in crypto First time ever I'm seeing the opposite rn. Teams building similar products in outside crypto are raising at a massive premium to their crypto counterparts One obvious example is "agentic trading". @TrueNorth has built one of the best products I've seen in the category anywhere. Meanwhile comparable non-crypto teams are raising at $200-300m caps either pre-product or with materially worse products 2026 will go down as a generational opportunity to back the best crypto-native teams building products with universal appeal
