What does it take to push back against the growing attacks on women's rights across Africa? In the final episode of @SOAWR's special podcast series on the Maputo Protocol, recorded live during the 87th Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights in Banjul, our Regional Research and Advocacy Officer, Ramatoulie Jallow, joins Nyokabi Njogu of the Centre for Reproductive Rights for a timely conversation on the forces reshaping the women's rights landscape across the continent today. Together, they discuss how African feminist movements are responding through collective action, strategic advocacy, and cross-regional solidarity, offering powerful insights into what it takes to defend and advance gender justice. 🎧 Listen to the episode here: youtube.com/watch?v=iuz7b6… #MaputoProtocol #WomensRights #GenderJustice --------------------------- @achpr_cadhp @AU_WGYD @AfricanUnion @_AfricanUnion @IGADgender @Purposeful_org @awdf01 @SOAWR @Halayalkarib @DutchMFA @NLcivilsociety @AfricanUnionUN @woman_kind @TrustAfrica @UNTrustFundEVAW @eu_eeas @AGA_Platform @unwomenafrica @EqualityNow_AF @ReproRightsAFR @eu_echo

“When I witness the resilience of women all over the world, rising above the most difficult situations, I am reminded that I can never give up.” — Zawadi Nyong’o, Kenyan Feminist Leader. Twenty-three years ago, on 11 July, the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa, commonly known as the Maputo Protocol, set out a bold vision for women’s rights and gender equality across the continent. Since then, Africa has seen stronger legal protections and more impactful participation by women and girls in leadership, education, and business. Today, we celebrate these hard-won gains, while recognising that support for women’s rights is under growing pressure and differing perspectives are becoming ever more prominent.

In observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, SIHA Network presents "Beyond Survival: The Tragic Impact of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence in Sudan". This short film centers the often-overlooked aftermath of violence on survivors, the lasting, everyday realities they continue to navigate long after the incident itself. It brings into focus how these experiences shape survivors’ lives in profound and enduring ways, while also highlighting the critical role of feminist frontline responders who work tirelessly to support them through these ongoing challenges. Watch this film in full, here, to better understand the impact survivors face, and the responsibility we all share in supporting their healing: youtu.be/3Ot-imrtpsU #KeepEyesOnSudan #KeepEyesOnDarfur #CRSV #EndCRSV #EndSexualViolenceInConflict ----------------------------- @UN_HRC @UNGeneva @eu_eeas @UNHumanRights @UN_Sudan @UNDP_Sudan @UNOCHA_Sudan @DWAG6 @DNforHR @AfricanCentre @USEmbassyKRT @AfricaAW @UKinSudan @RepSaraJacobs @Af4HA @_Nalafem @BSonblast @noonforwomen @el_karama @feministconsci1 @SudanHRH @NidalSaad4 @Sarajalilo @HkZuk @AfriFeminists @DutchMFA @fidh_un @GCR2P @CIHRS_Alerts @ISHRglobal @UNTrustFundEVAW @unwomensudan @NLinSudan @DefendDefenders @ngowgwps @Roaarabi2 @JamesCopnall @DavidLammy @antonioguterres @AyinSudan @_AfricanUnion @sudan_doctors @SecRubio @Swiss_Khartoum @AmbRamsoekh @RadioDabanga @kajakallas @EU_SUDAN @eu_echo

This week, CEHURD represented by @AJRuth3 participated in a Strategic Litigation training in Nairobi, Kenya organized by @equalitynow and the Solidarity for African Women’s Rights (@SOAWR) Coalition. This training aimed at strengthening SOAWR members’ capacity to use #StrategicLitigation to advance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, particularly in line with Article 14 of the Maputo Protocol. During the training, members had an overview of the Maputo Protocol, were re-oriented on Strategic Interest Litigation highlighting its objectives, advantages, litigation cycle, case identification, client suitability, evidence gathering, locus standi, timing, forum selection among others. Members were also trained on funding and collaboration for strategic litigation, advocacy and stakeholders engagements during strategic litigation, impact and implementation of outcomes of strategic litigation, risks and ethics among others. Members were also given an opportunity to think through at least one case they could litigate as an organization in line with the #MaputoProtocol and presentations were made in this respect with feedback given and commitment made by organizations to see through the filing and litigation of the select cases. It was an impactful training that will go a long way in advancing litigations in line with the Maputo Protocol.
