An Israeli airstrike hit here in Lebanon. This is what remains. Homes destroyed. Lives shattered. Civilians are not a target. They must be protected.

Trump has been openly threatening—and likely committing—war crimes in Iran for weeks. But this is different. It is a bare threat of genocide that should be understood as triggering third states’ duty to prevent genocide. Leaders like @MarkJCarney are legally obligated to respond.

This meets the threshold for intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national group as set forth in 18 US Code § 1091 prohibiting the crime of genocide. If any Iranians are killed pursuant to this threat, President Trump will be guilty of genocide, as will those assisting him.

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." Whether this is raving lunacy, deliberate hyperbole, depraved strategy or unabashed criminality, this is beyond war crimes and crimes against humanity. It is, essentially, a threat to commit genocide. @MarkJCarney & @AnitaAnandMP, Canada must react. And must push every world leader to do so as well. We do not know whether these will remain chilling words or are a terrifying harbinger of what may be or even is to come. Neither can be allowed to stand. This is not about taking the world as it is. This is about standing up for the most basic principles of humanity. #block-69d4f5358f087f6d3658e650" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">theguardian.com/world/live/202…

President Trump threatens not just war crimes but also what sounds like genocide, saying that in Iran "a whole civilization will die tonight." This is obviously morally repugnant and also raises alarms about the mental stability of a man who controls nuclear weapons.

I join the @iaeaorg in raising the alarm again over the safety of nuclear facilities in #Iran. The latest incident involving the Bushehr nuclear power plant is a stark reminder: a strike could trigger a nuclear accident, with health impacts that would devastate generations. With every passing day of this escalating conflict, the stakes and threats are raised higher and higher. We must de-escalate now. Peace is the best medicine.
IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency ⚛️@iaeaorg

The IAEA has been informed by Iran that a projectile struck close to the premises of the Bushehr NPP this morning, the fourth such incident in recent weeks. Iran also informed the IAEA that one of the site’s physical protection staff members was killed by a projectile fragment and that a building on site was affected by shockwaves and fragments. No increase in radiation levels was reported. IAEA DG @rafaelmgrossi expresses deep concern about the reported incident and says NPP sites or nearby areas must never be attacked, noting that auxiliary site buildings may contain vital safety equipment. Reiterating call for maximum military restraint to avoid risk of a nuclear accident, DG Grossi again stresses the paramount importance of adhering to the 7 pillars for ensuring nuclear safety and security during a conflict.

💢 Videos verified by France 24 show missiles being launched from Kuwaiti territory into Iran, directly challenging Kuwait’s claim it has not allowed its land to be used for attacks. ➤ At least 13 missiles were filmed firing on March 24 from near Abdali in northern Kuwait, with a second barrage recorded March 31–April 1 from the same area. ➤ Analysis of footage, including camera angles and sound delays, places the launch site inside Kuwait near oil installations, roughly 55 km from Camp Buehring, a major U.S. base. ➤ Weapons experts say the launches are consistent with U.S.-made GMLRS rockets fired from HIMARS systems — which the Kuwaiti military does not operate but U.S. forces do. ➤ Matching explosions were filmed the same day in Shalamcheh, Iran, about 60 km away, with timing consistent with the launches. ➤ Satellite imagery later showed damage to warehouses at the impact site inside Iran. Iran has struck Kuwait repeatedly over the past 48 hours, hitting oil, petrochemical, power, and government infrastructure, including buildings housing Kuwait’s national oil and petroleum operations.
