Yesterday, May 19, I arrived for a visit with Marwan Barghouti — a meeting that had been scheduled more than a month ago. I was expecting to ask him what he had gone through over the past month, and what kind of torture he had suffered at the hands of this criminal regime and the violent, criminal IPS prison guards. I drove for more than two hours into the middle of the desert. Two minutes after I entered the prison, an alarm sounded and a “state of emergency” was declared. The guards told me and another lawyer who was waiting there to go home, because we would not be able to enter today. So I drove back for more than two hours again — about five hours in total, for nothing, without meeting my client. This is not the first time this has happened to me, and I doubt there really was a “state of emergency.” I do not believe a word they say.
