The media should stop pretending this was a small wording mistake. Canadians were told “remains” had been found. That claim travelled around the world before the evidence had caught up. Ground-penetrating radar can detect disturbances or anomalies, not bodies. That distinction mattered then, and it matters now. And yes, churches paid a brutal price in the moral panic that followed. Reports have documented dozens of churches burned or vandalized after the 2021 Kamloops announcement, with at least 68 Christian churches burned or defaced in just June and July 2021 according to one count. (America Magazine) So here is the adult position: audit the public money, release the evidence, correct the record, and investigate every act of vandalism and arson seriously.
