@LarsSchotte @geerlingguy Many examples today, this was from scratch and even before git or any decent IaC pipeline existed. It was finding solutions to do the least amount of work with the best outcome. Reinstalls only needed 10 - 20 btw including QA (also automated based on role).

@geerlingguy Changes were based on edited .xml (with version control), and during maintenance windows to push the config making the xServe netboot into the installer and reinstall using that config. I used Infrastructure-as-Code in the mid 2000s already as you can see!

@geerlingguy I managed a couple of hundreds' of them in the days. Still the best thing with Mac OS X Server was the ability to prep a .xml file and when the installer booted and saw (one of its) MAC addresses in the .xml, it would configure the complete server with everything in the .xml

@lozaning @geerlingguy Xsan was a great solution from Apple. Had 2 racks of Xserve and Xserve RAID to provide podcast services of a university (to record lectures in high resolution and automate processing of the files).
