That being said - this is a simple linear multinomial model, you can undoubtedly improve the model and its calibration (ever so slightly I bet) with more advanced, flexible approaches e.g. xgboost.readthedocs.io/en/latest/inde…)

Initial findings showed that the new model was a slight improvement over the @nflscrapR model. Where does team strength affect EP the most? In the RedZone, where an elite offense will score a touchdown far more often than a poor one.

I took the news of Elliott's extension as an occasion to write a @PFF Data Study during which I investigate kickers and especially the confidence we can have in them, using Bayesian Inference.

I never liked when teams would go empty on 3rd/4th and 1 like Redskins did a few plays ago.
Just checked the numbers in that situation since 2010. Less likely to convert but higher upside.
Non-empty: 64.6% success rate, .02 EPA/P
Empty: 60.5% success rate, .09 EPA/P
