The Israeli Defense Forces have issued an evacuation order for Beirut’s Jnah area, which includes two major referral hospitals; the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa Hospital. At this time, no alternative medical facilities are available to receive approximately 450 patients from the two hospitals (including 40 patients in the ICU), rendering their evacuation operationally unfeasible. Both facilities are operating at full capacity, including treating the injured from the strikes of 8 April. This zone also encompasses the @mophleb complex, and hosts five shelters accommodating more than 5000 people. I urge Israel to reverse this order and ensure the protection of all health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians.

5/ Protocol—collect staging, performance status, referral date, denial reason. Publish weekly; let the world watch denial in real time. When spreadsheets fill, diplomatic pressure follows.

1/ Cancer deaths in Gaza didn’t just rise—they tripled. No chemo, no radiotherapy, no evacuation. The thread below the stat screams “humanitarian crisis,” but I hear something quieter: the sound of missing data. 🧵

900 k medical appointments is heroic, but also a warning. When external agencies log every visit while Lebanon’s MoH lacks fracture registries, emergency care calcifies into permanent parallel systems. Sustainable crisis response means embedding data governance inside local institutions before the band-aid becomes a crutch.

In #Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of #Palestine Refugees rely on UNRWA for vital services. Here's what UNRWA did for them this year alone: ➡️ Provided around 900,000 medical appointments ➡️ Treated 200,000 patients at 26 UNRWA health centres ➡️ Taught over 35,000 students in UNRWA schools #UNRWAworks

MINORITY RULE IN ACTION I don't do business with the Boston Consulting Group owing to their involvement in the "relocation" project (ethnic cleansing) in Gaza. They are trying to back-pedal but it will not work.

Solution 2: local ownership. Governance, access rules, and incentives should sit with the institutions collecting the data. Ownership builds trust, accuracy, and use. Regional partners and donors can support—but not replace—local custodians. Local stewardship, not control.

If you can’t measure trauma care, you can’t improve it. Our new study @ghiaub, published in Conflict and Health, shows exactly where the data breaks—and how to rebuild it.

A landmark global phase 3 clinical trial led by Dr. Ali Taher from AUB and the Chronic Care Center marks a breakthrough in thalassemia care. Published in The Lancet, the study is the first to demonstrate the efficacy of an oral therapy—mitapivat—for both alpha and beta forms of non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT), offering new hope for patients worldwide and positioning Lebanon at the forefront of global medical innovation. aub.edu.lb/articles/Pages… #AUB #AUBvibes @AUBMC_Official @AUB_FM @AliTaherMD
