Empowering Women. Strengthening Peace. 💪🏾✨ On April 29th in Kilifi County, 31 women from Kenya’s security and justice sectors came together for a mentorship reflection session under the #MwanamkeImara Program. Through interactive activities and open discussions, participants shared powerful stories of growth, moving from silence to influence, stepping into leadership roles, and actively contributing to preventing violent extremism. Key highlights: ✔️ Increased confidence and leadership ✔️ Women influencing decisions in their institutions ✔️ Strong mentor-mentee support networks ✔️ Real action in communities to promote peace Despite unexpected changes, the session became a powerful, participant-led space, proving that when women are empowered, real change happens. yowpsud.org/post/strengthe… @SFCG_Kenya @CanHCKenya @CanadaDev @NCTC_Kenya @CenterCve @AfPeacebuilding @peacemakersnetw @IGAD_CEPCVE @Hedayah_CVE

Day 1 of the #MwanamkeImara Women Intra-Learning Exchange in Kwale County brought together women from Security & Justice institutions and community leaders to reflect on the evolving role of women in PCVE. Through interactive discussions on the PCVE landscape, intersectionality, and women as strategic actors in peacebuilding, one message stood out clearly, women are not just victims of insecurity; they are powerful agents of prevention and change. @CanadaDev @CanHCKenya @SFCG_Kenya @NCTC_Kenya @Kenyajudiciary @ODPP_KE @AUC_PAPS @PeaceCorps @IPSS_Addis @UN_OCT @NPSOfficial_KE @NPSC_KE @actionlife_Ke @IGADsecretariat @EUinKenya @SwedeninKE @NLinKenya @NorwayInKenya @UNODC @NCIC_Kenya #CanadainKenya #Canada #WomenInPCVE #WomenPeaceSecurity #CommunityResilience #IWD

With support from @KCDF and in collaboration with the @kwalecop, we convened a consultative forum to advance Inclusive Education through the Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Policy that’s currently under review. The forum brought together Kwale County government officials and CSOs, including the Director of Social Services & Talent Management, Director of Tourism, Trade & Enterprise Development, representatives from the Departments of Health, Water, and Ministry of Education, alongside civil society organizations and community representatives. Discussions focussed on: * Reviewing the previously submitted Inclusive Education Memo * Sharing achievements, gaps & opportunities in Kwale’s inclusive education journey * Taking forward new recommendations on Inclusive Education for integration into the Gender and Social Inclusion Policy. We are grateful for the support and continued collaboration with both county, national government and CSOs in advancing policy reforms in Kwale County. @PENKenya @TISAKenya @theGCERF @tendasasa @SFCG_Kenya

We're thrilled to share that YOWPSUD, a leading organization in promoting peace and preventing violent extremism in Kenya, was selected to represent the IGAD platform in Ethiopia at the three-day Regional Strategic Communication Workshop for Women in P/CVE. This workshop brought together inspiring women leaders and practitioners from across the region, committed to driving positive change in their communities. Our representatives were part of powerful conversations on developing country-specific counter and alternative narratives to challenge extremist messaging. Together, we crafted messages to end the war in Sudan and amplify voices for peace! We're proud to be part of this network of women leaders, committed to strengthening collaboration and driving lasting impact in P/CVE efforts. Thanks to @IGAD_CEPCVE for hosting this impactful event! #women4PCVE #PVE #Peacebuilding @NCTC_Kenya @IrishMissionUN @_AfricanUnion @APRMorg @NYC_YouthVoice @EpukaUgaidi

Kilifi County’s 5 Key Priority Area Leads and the Technical Working Group on M&E participated in the Inter-County CEF Exchange Program alongside Lamu and Tana River counties. The forum strengthened peer learning on CAP implementation, inclusive engagement, gender-responsive practices, and evidence-based decision-making. Kilifi showcased the Fusion Dashboard, KCAP milestones, and success stories on community resilience and multi-sectoral interventions. The counties concluded with peer learning sessions and agreed on follow-up actions to enhance cross-county collaboration. @NCTC_Kenya @NLinKenya @theGCERF @IGAD_CEPCVE @IGADPeace @IGADsecretariat @pcve_org @UN_OCT @Hedayah_CVE @apt_geneva

Today marked the successful conclusion of our final training session for the Biashara Fund ward committees from Msambweni Sub-county, held at the Msambweni Biashara Center. We were honored to be joined by Madam Heidi Mumia, Director of the Department of Trade, who officially opened the session. In her address, Madam Heidi shared valuable insights on the Biashara Fund and underscored the importance of strong leadership and good governance at the ward level in ensuring the fund's success. This week, with support from @CanHCKenya, @SFCG_Kenya in partnership with @NCTC_Kenya & @YOWPSUD_ is convening a specialized PCVE training in Kwale County for State security agencies, justice institutions, and CSOs. The training is bringing together key stakeholders under one roof to strengthen coordination and build collective approaches to preventing and countering violent extremism. The importance of this engagement is clear. In past experiences within Kwale and across the Coast, gaps in early warning and early response systems have limited timely action, often leaving communities exposed to radicalization and violence. This training is addressing those gaps by promoting collaboration, enhancing information sharing, and equipping participants with practical tools to detect risks early and respond in a coordinated manner. By investing in this joint capacity building, Kwale County is taking an important step toward creating safer and more resilient communities. The strengthened partnerships between security, justice institutions, and civil society will not only improve prevention strategies but also ensure that youth, women, and vulnerable groups are better protected from the drivers of violent extremism. 🌍✨

This week, YOWPSUD had the privilege of participating in a Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) organized by @sfcg_kenya and supported by @CanHCKenya. The training brought together #MwanamkeImara partner organizations working in dynamic and sometimes high-risk environments, equipping them with essential skills to anticipate, prevent, and respond effectively to safety and security challenges. The HEAT training covered practical modules on personal safety, situational awareness, first aid, conflict navigation, and emergency response protocols. For YOWPSUD, this knowledge is not just important, it is vital. Working in community spaces often involves navigating unpredictable circumstances, from security incidents to health emergencies. Having the right skills and preparedness can make the difference between a safe outcome and a crisis. Health, safety, and security trainings are a cornerstone of sustainable community engagement. They empower teams to operate confidently, minimize risks, and protect not only themselves but also the communities they serve. By investing in such capacity building, we strengthen our ability to deliver our mission while safeguarding the well-being of our staff, partners, and beneficiaries. YOWPSUD remains committed to integrating these best practices into our daily operations, ensuring that our interventions are carried out in safe, informed, and responsible ways

As part of the #MwanamkeImara launch, male officers from state & justice institutions underwent gender sensitivity training on PCVE. This is a crucial step in transforming systems from within ensuring women’s inclusion is not just policy, but practice.
