Day 1 of the #MwanamkeImara Women Intra-Learning Exchange in Kwale County brought together women from Security & Justice institutions and community leaders to reflect on the evolving role of women in PCVE. Through interactive discussions on the PCVE landscape, intersectionality, and women as strategic actors in peacebuilding, one message stood out clearly, women are not just victims of insecurity; they are powerful agents of prevention and change. @CanadaDev @CanHCKenya @SFCG_Kenya @NCTC_Kenya @Kenyajudiciary @ODPP_KE @AUC_PAPS @PeaceCorps @IPSS_Addis @UN_OCT @NPSOfficial_KE @NPSC_KE @actionlife_Ke @IGADsecretariat @EUinKenya @SwedeninKE @NLinKenya @NorwayInKenya @UNODC @NCIC_Kenya #CanadainKenya #Canada #WomenInPCVE #WomenPeaceSecurity #CommunityResilience #IWD

Mombasa: 16-18 March 2026. Mothers and spouses affected by violent extremism gathered for a resilience and peacebuilding training facilitated by @NCTC_Kenya. Through honest conversations on stigma, discrimination and the challenges of reintegration, participants explored their inner strength and the qualities needed to become peace ambassadors, that is organizers, advisors, negotiators and advocates within their communities. They described resilience in their own words: kujielewa, kujitambua, kujijenga na kujituma. And in one powerful message, they affirmed: brave voices change the world, and they are ready to be those voices. #SecureKe #NSPCVE #TuweTayariKuilinda @theGCERF @IGAD_CEPCVE @tendasasa

The Africa Urban Forum is a flagship initiative of the African Union, born from the 2022 Cairo Declaration to drive coordinated, biannual dialogue on urban development across the continent. The Africa Urban Forum brings together leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to shape sustainable cities through dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. From Cairo 2022 to Ethiopia 2024, Africa is building momentum. The inaugural forum reaffirmed that urbanisation is irreversible and must be harnessed for transformation. The AUF Declaration adopted in Addis Ababa calls for: ✔️Inclusive urban policies ✔️Climate resilience ✔️Innovative financing ✔️Regional cooperation under Agenda 2063 Africa is shaping its own urban future. Delegates register to attend #AUF2 at auf.go.ke For media accreditation: accreditation.au.int/en/form/auf2 @housingurbanKE @UNHabitat

The Centre recently participated in the #LeadersTalkAfrica webinar organised by @civicadvisory, contributing to the discussion on “Deconstructing Terrorist Propaganda.” A key insight was that terrorists narratives thrive on emotional vulnerability & identity gaps. Countering them requires proactive, human-centered strategies as it’s not just messaging, but a contest over meaning & belonging. Strategic communication remains critical to disrupt this cycle. #IGAD #PCVE #StratComms

In Mkomani Ward, Lamu VTC, we witnessed the power of doing things differently — turning dialogue into action, and engagement into impact. By bringing together security actors, community members, and young people in one shared space, we broke barriers that often limit trust and cooperation. Through football matches, theater performances, creative skits, and energetic youth dances, we created an environment where conversations on security were not intimidating, but inclusive, relatable, and honest. This approach highlighted a critical truth: peace and security cannot exist without trust. When security actors and the community coexist, understand each other, and build relationships, it becomes easier to share information, address emerging threats early, and prevent violence before it escalates. Communities feel safer speaking up, and security actors are better equipped to respond effectively because they are informed, connected, and trusted. At a time when cases of youth engaging in violence — including the worrying trend of using pangas against each other — are on the rise, this dialogue offered a powerful alternative. It showed that when young people are engaged through sports, arts, and talent, they are less likely to be drawn into crime or conflict, and more likely to become ambassadors of peace. We also had open conversations on radicalization and violent extremism, unpacking both the push and pull factors. From small crimes and social vulnerabilities to lack of opportunities and belonging, we explored how these factors can make youth susceptible to extremist groups — and more importantly, how early intervention through community collaboration can stop this pathway. This dialogue reaffirmed that sports, arts, and open engagement are not just entertainment — they are tools for transformation. They create safe spaces for expression, nurture talent, and redirect energy toward positive change. Most importantly, it reminded us that security is a shared responsibility. When communities and security actors walk together, listen to each other, and act together, we build stronger, safer, and more resilient societies. Let us continue creating platforms that unite, empower, and inspire — because when trust is built, information flows, and when information flows, peace is sustained. #PeaceAndSecurity #sportsdialogue This is being implemented by @actionlife_Ke in partnership with @tendasasa Supported by @theGCERF @SFCG_Kenya @NCTC_Kenya @Kenyajudiciary @ODPP_KE @AUC_PAPS @PeaceCorps @IPSS_Addis @UN_OCT @NPSOfficial_KE @NPSC_KE @YOWPSUD_ @IGADsecretariat @EUinKenya @SwedeninKE @NLinKenya @NorwayInKenya @NCIC_Kenya @AU_WGYD @UN_Women @UNFPAKen @unfoundation @UN_OCT @CTP_Kenya @NCTC_Kenya @Mwarpkenya
