Bad news from Dartmoor. This is not being done to protect the environment and I do not believe that the vast majority of wild campers leave 'needles, condoms or shit' on the land they use lightly. It's control by a minority in receipt of vast public largesse. Very wrong.

The distortion of the Arctic air over the American continent is astounding. The vortex isn't supposed to leak like this as often as it is now doing. Say goodbye to the seasons that you used to know. This is not recovering anytime soon.

I delivered this poem at the 11th hour of the conference of parties. Loss and damage means unbelievable loss. We can not come back from the loss of culture. There will come a time when no amount of dollars will be able to bring back what we’ve lost and broken.

Without any binding commitments to rapidly and immediately reduce greenhouse gases, the world stands no chance to deliver on the 1,5°C limit, and by doing so minimising risks of uprooting the life supporting systems we all depend on and endangering countless human lives. #COP27

Congratulations to the 636 fossil fuel lobbyists who were granted access to #COP27, and to all the murderous, fossil-linked sponsors from @CocaCola to @GM. You guys won the day. We're still on track for an unlivable world. May your children forgive you.

Sewage pollution alert for my local beach today. I can’t believe that @SouthWestWater are willing to pump literal sh*t into our beautiful waters, all at the cost of our wonderful wildlife. Beyond disappointing.

Attended a 5ft blue shark (P. glauca) stranding with @BDMLR in Cornwall. I have been on the scene since 9:30am, and it has been continuously stranding itself since then (video next tweet). It is now low tide and have havent seen it in over an hour, so hopefully it’s gone!

Can't believe I just saw this, @SouthernWater spokesperson on @GMB telling customers "You then need to use your judgement on whether you feel it's safe to go swimming or not". So it's up to you if you want to go swimming in a load of sewage, not our problem. WOW! @HugoSAS

Recent droughts in Europe once again made visible the "Hunger Stones" in some Czech and German rivers. These stones were used to mark desperately low river levels that would forecast famines. This one, in Elbe river, is from 1616 and says: "If you see me, cry" #archaeohistories

Two things bother me about this tweet: 1st the stats are c. a decade out of date, 2nd impression it gives that @DefraGovUK are more concerned about stopping the illegal killing of foreign animals than stopping #raptor killing at home where silence is deafening. @MarkAvery

20,000 elephants are slaughtered each year for their ivory. This must stop. Our #IvoryAct is one of the toughest bans on elephant ivory sales in the world. Those found guilty of breaching the ban could face up to five years in jail. gov.uk/government/new… #WorldElephantDay

Sickened by the number of oil disasters destroying our planet. These videos from Hawaii and Ecuador are rare; most spills are never reported. What government has the strength to take on this planet-destroying industry?
Steven Donziger@SDonziger

BREAKING: Major leak from oil pipeline in Ecuador's Amazon happening in real time. Saw many of these in @Chevron's oil fields; they were rarely remediated. The oil and gas industry treats our ecosystem like a trash bin. Thanks @AFrontlines for exposing.
