Easy times make weak men. Can’t stop thinking about this quote that was dropped in my EO forum today.

You have no experience. You’ve never started a company. You’ve never had a full time job. Nike is going to kill you. You’re a kid. You don’t have technical skills. You shouldn’t build hardware. Apple is going to kill you. You can’t build hardware. You can’t measure heart rate non-invasively. Athletes don’t care about recovery. Under Armour is going to kill you. It won’t be accurate. You don’t listen. You’re an ineffective leader. You can’t recruit great talent. You’re going to have to pay every athlete. You can’t measure sleep non-invasively. It’s too expensive to research. Athletes are a small market. The product costs too much to make. The product costs too much to sell. Your valuation is too high. Consumers aren’t going to want it. Hardware is too hard. You should measure steps. Fitbit is going to kill you. You can’t build a marketing engine. You can’t raise enough money. You need a real CEO. Google is going to kill you. You can’t be a subscription. You can’t build a brand. You can’t do consumer in Boston. Your valuation is too high. You shouldn’t make accessories. You shouldn’t make apparel. Lululemon is going to kill you. You can’t predict Covid. Stay in your niche. You are going to run out of money. You can’t build a health platform. Amazon is going to kill you. You can’t measure blood pressure. You can’t get medical approvals. The market is too small. You don’t understand AI. The market is too competitive. It won’t work internationally. The supply chain is too complicated. You can’t build an AI. You can’t raise enough money. It’s too competitive. Healthcare isn’t going to want it. … Just keep going ✌️

@boneGPT Talk to more mortgage peeps, mortgage brokers can put you in loan products designed for self employed vs trying to make it work in a Fannie Mae /freddie Mac box. Very easy to get you qualified if you need help. We run @matadorlending

Grateful to lead an incredible night, and deeply thankful for what George and the DeMontrond family have done, and continue to do, for our great city.

That process builds character, accountability, and grit...not entitlement. It’s a reminder that legacy isn’t just built through success, but through values passed down through real work.

@moseskagan @sweatystartup 3 weeks into owning a Rivian R1S. Hard to imagine this isn’t the future. Long EV, probably another decade before it’s completely mainstream.

Respectfully, this is totally wrong If you look at global markets where cars compete head-to-head, I think Chinese EVs are in the process of eating everyone else's lunch We have chosen to protect our domestic car industry and our domestic oil industry for (good) strategic reasons, but we should not be under any illusion that they are better than the alternatives (which are getting better and cheaper v fast)

Sales of Teslas are down 2 years in a row because electric vehicles aren't the future. Gas powered vehicles are superior. It is absolutely hilarious how the EV / self driving boys are in full denial. However, if Tesla made a truck that looked like a truck their sales would skyrocket.

I’ve repped Wingstop for 20 years in the Houston area Wingstop now does $2MM+ per location. That’s out of +/- 1500 sf, so call it $1,500/foot in sales Yet it has finally happened We offer on a site, and upon seeing the counter offer we have agreed we can’t pay their rent.

@WillColeman31 We’ve been putting out HM for about 5 years and built a small revolving fund about 2 years ago. We’re turning down deals that are getting done from larger funds… I think the pressure to put out capital is forcing riskier lending. Def seeing it in my market in Houston.

Does anyone else feel like the amount of capital being invested into Hard Money Loans is becoming a bubble? It seems like more and more people are getting into hard money lending. So much so that it seems unsustainable. And I’m a hard money lender myself.

This @X account is about to take a turn. Instead of posting my random musings, I am going to share intimate details of a new business launch, a new professional services firm. In fact, you will get raw insights into my thoughts, struggles, and wins. Why?
