The First Lady of Sierra Leone Fatima Bio publicly seen here over the weekend defending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) we all know this has been banned worldwide while receiving international support for programmes on girls’ rights and ending child marriage is deeply alarming. In fact if appears she was mocking those speaking against this awful abuse on the bodies of women and girls. UK taxpayers’ money through development funding must not be used to sanitise or indirectly support political narratives that normalise violence against girls. FGM is not culture when girls suffer lifelong physical and psychological harm. I urge @OAFLAD @FCDOGovUK @GirlsNotBrides international partners to review how funding and partnerships are being used in Sierra Leone and ensure accountability, safeguarding, and consistency on the rights of women and girls. Girls cannot be protected from child marriage while their bodily autonomy is simultaneously violated through FGM. As a campaigner and survivor I would like to bring this matter to the public. Are we now ok with this behavior to a woman heavily funded for programs to end Child Marriage as she claims? @UN_Women @UNFPA @UNICEF @equalitynow @TheGirlGen @OrchidProject @ActionAid @ActionAid @Irish_Aid @amnesty @TheFiveFound @hrw @PlanUK @SafeHands4Girls @TheVavengers @GlobalSpotlight @unfpachief @NimkoAli @MerckFoundation @AU_WGYD @EUatUN @commonwealthsec @DavidLammy @KemiBadenoch @jessphillips @SarahChampionMP @PreetKGillMP @UKParliament @BBCAfrica @SkyNews @AJIunit @cathynewman @lfeatherstone @HelenaKennedyKC @RobertJenrick @jpVAWdata

Pretty sick of the countries that are boycotting Eurovision because the Jews are competing. Before you say “don’t conflate!”, these are countries that expelled their Jews (Spain), or refused to welcome Holocaust refugees (Ireland), or where most Jews were genocided (Netherlands). Europe liquidated its Jewish population in living memory and the survivors built new lives in Israel. Now these entitled, hateful broadcasters are boycotting the show in solidarity with the territorist armies that tried to kill those survivors. It’s so fucked up.

This man spent the last 14 years of his life going to a children’s hospital twice a week to hold babies that nobody else was holding. David Deutchman was an international marketing executive in the American city of Atlanta. He retired in 2000, tried lecturing at local universities, found it didn’t fill his time, and one day walked into Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta on a whim to ask if they needed any help, which they did. He started in the school for long-term patients. One afternoon he noticed two mothers in a corridor who looked like they’d been crying. He sat with them and they talked for about half an hour, and by the end of that conversation he’d worked out what he actually wanted to be doing at the hospital. For the next 14 years he showed up every Tuesday in the pediatric intensive care unit and every Thursday in the neonatal one, holding premature babies in his arms and sitting with parents during the worst hours of their lives. He paid particular attention to the babies whose families couldn’t visit, the ones in foster care, the ones whose mothers were too unwell to come up to the ward. When friends asked him why a retired marketing executive wanted to spend his free time getting peed on and spat up on by other people’s babies, his answer was always the same. “I get peed on. I get puked on. Why wouldn’t I love it?” (Parents reading this are probably nodding. Non-parents tend to look at them like they’ve lost their minds. It’s hard to explain until you’ve held one.) The nurses called him ICU Grandpa. A photograph of him cradling a tiny preemie went viral in 2017 and a generation of people learned his name, but he kept his Tuesdays and Thursdays exactly as they were. When he was diagnosed with a serious illness in late 2020, the hospital organised a drive-by parade past his house with cars covered in balloons and hearts. He passed 17 days after the diagnosis, at 86. What he was doing wasn’t just kindness. Held contact with premature babies, skin-to-skin or simply being cradled by a calm adult, has been shown in studies to lower stress hormones, regulate heart rate and breathing, and improve weight gain. A 2021 study in The Lancet, one of the world’s leading medical journals, found that early held contact in the first hours of life can reduce mortality in premature newborns by around 25 percent. Anyone who’s worked in a NICU, or been a parent in one, will recognise exactly what he was doing. Most hospitals outside the wealthier countries still don’t have a programme like this, and even where they do, the science on what a held baby’s body is actually doing has only properly caught up in the last few years.

Meet Zahwa Arafat. She is worth BILLIONS. How does she live? 🔴 She owns entire blocks in London. She even has a street named after her because she owns every property on both sides. 🔴 She owns luxury real estate in Paris and across France. 🔴She holds properties in Malta and sits on massive Swiss bank accounts. Where did this wealth come from? It was stolen by her father, Yasser Arafat. Arafat wasn't even Palestinian. His real name was Mohammed Abdel Rahman Abdel Raouf al-Qudwa al-Husseini. He was an Egyptian terrorist born in Cairo who invented his "Palestinian" identity in 1964. He stole billions, and his daughter lives like royalty in Europe. When will the West wake up to this massive scam? Share this everywhere.

The cartoonist with whom we were awarded the Kofi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award 2026, Safaa Odah, is a Palestinian based in Gaza. She could not attend the event since she couldn’t get a way out of Gaza. She managed to speak on phone (video), from the tent where she now lives with her little sister (amidst many other displaced Palestinians). It was a very emotional moment watching her smile for the award amidst a ruined environment.

There's a whole industry built around African poverty. NGOs, consultants, conferences, awareness campaigns, celebrity endorsements.  Billions of dollars flow through this system every year, employing thousands of well-paid Westerners. None of those people have an incentive for the problem to actually be solved, because if African poverty disappeared tomorrow, they'd all need new jobs.  I'm not saying they're evil.  I'm saying the incentive structure is broken, and incentives shape behavior more than intentions do.

People love to say “every religion has extremists.” Fine, I agree. Now let’s be honest. Point me to a Christian extremist group today that is openly killing in the name of Jesus, holding the Bible as justification, the same way some Muslim groups loudly claim Islam. Until then, we need stop forcing a comparison that doesn’t match reality.

I’m old enough to remember being told that Iran would make a fortune from the Strait of Hormuz by charging US$2 million per ship for “safe passage.” Some even reached for Clausewitz to dress this up as strategic genius. Now we read that Iran may itself be losing hundreds of millions of dollars a day, while the rial has fallen to record lows and inflationary pressure has worsened. How come Russia has been in war for more than four years and still manages to keep its inflation relatively down? What did Iran miss in their strategy?

The so-called "Aid Shock of 2025" was triggered by a massive US cut and shuttering of USAID, plus sharp belt tightening across the EU. But wait, Ukraine received more Official Development Assistance (ODA) - government aid designed to promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries – at $44.9 BILLION in 2025 than ALL of Africa combined, marking the FIRST TIME a single European nation has out-received the entire African continent in the modern era.

For most of human history, if you made money through trade, society looked down on you.  Merchants were considered low-class in China, in Europe, and in most places. The people with status were warriors, priests, and aristocrats. Then a few centuries ago, something changed in parts of Europe. Ordinary people who built things and sold things started getting respect instead of suspicion. And once that shift happened, innovation exploded.  Because when a society tells its builders "we see you and what you do matters," those builders try harder and create things nobody imagined. Africa needs that cultural shift.  We need to celebrate the woman who opens a factory MORE than we celebrate the man who wins an election.  She's the one actually creating jobs.

Ethiopia and Sudan between them have 96 million cattle. That is 25% more than the entire European Union. Measurable atmospheric methane attributable to East African cattle populations: no meaningful increase. The herds have grazed that land for thousands of years. The soil microbiology adapted. The methanotrophic bacteria in the soil oxidise the methane. Nothing accumulates. Britain has 9.6 million cattle. Britain, apparently, is causing a climate catastrophe. Possibly the grass-fed Hereford on a Gloucestershire hillside is being asked to carry a weight that belongs to the container ship anchored off Felixstowe. Possibly. Just possibly.
