Look at the map. 338,000+ red dots. Unique IP addresses trading, distributing, and sharing child sexual abuse material… children under 12. Do you notice the blue dots? Probably not. Those are the actual investigations. Law enforcement needs more resources, more support… a bigger rescue team. This is a fight of good vs. evil, and we are losing.

Today, the House passed the TAKE IT DOWN Act to protect children victimized by the distribution of authentic and digital forgery nude and exploitative images that do not constitute CSAM. For the first time, social media companies will be required to remove intimate images of children when hosting these images and the distribution of these images will be criminalized. NCMEC looks forward to President @realDonaldTrump signing the bill into law and thanks @FLOTUS, @SenTedCruz, @SenAmyKlobuchar, @RepMariaSalazar, and @RepDean for their leadership.

The TAKE IT DOWN Act contains an important provision to create a process for victims to report an actual or digital forgery exploitative image in which the child is depicted and request removal. Platforms would have 48 hours to remove the material or face financial penalties. NCMEC’s Chief Legal Officer, Yiota Souras, discussed this critical provision at a recent @HouseCommerce hearing. NCMEC encourages members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee to support the TAKE IT DOWN Act at tomorrow’s markup.
