We’re reimagining a 50-year-old interface - the mouse pointer - with AI. 🖱️ These experimental demos show how people can intuitively direct Gemini on their screens using motion, speech, and natural shorthand to get things done 🧵

I (w/@Tristan_J_Hall) built a <$900 treadmill that lets you walk in any direction in VR. The closest alternatives with similar functionality cost $40,000. Ours works and it's kind of awesome?? About 1.5 weeks ago, we demoed it @socraticainfo's Symposium! Here's the full story of how it came to be…

@FandangoSl781 @TheCinesthetic It wasn't her dad. "We thought this might make things easier for you." The Pensacola environment from her childhood drawing. It was a simulation the aliens do on newbies to find common linguistic ground.

@TheCinesthetic Worst movie ending of all time. I didn't sit through that whole thing expecting to see some aliens, only to get her dad showing and saying something dumb. The ending ruined the entire movie.

@Rapture_Ready @cianmarbo @StephenClark1 Earth is so bright relative to space around it, I don't think this type of camera exposure can show both. Bit of a niche hot tip: Go into @SpaceEngineSim and switch between Auto exposure and HDR while switching views between the stars and a planet/moon. You'll instantly get it.

Webb captured this new image of galaxy Messier 58, in both the near and mid-infrared, as part of a treasury of 55 massive, star-forming galaxies. The data on the properties of these galaxies will add insight to our picture of how galaxies grow and evolve over cosmic time.

@SadlyItsBradley @ZGFTECH This is partly what I already do. A Bobo halo strap without gasket is comfy but unstable in fast play. Tighten Q3 ipd a bit on nose and it's good balance of breezy on cheeks, cozy on head, & stable. A 110g hmd intended for nose may be good, but fair to question balance issues.

@destinysdoor @MetaHorizonDevs They're chasing #s. Monthly active users on apps like Fortnite and Roblox are hundreds of millions, so they want to compete there. They wished to merge VR and free-to-play social gaming, but the data show they're just different audiences. Better to let VR grow slowly, separately.

@MetaHorizonDevs I’m so confused by this Worlds turn. Why did you decide to make Worlds a mobile mini-game farm vs your original vision for immersive VR spaces for connection? I remember those early ads that showcased adult hang out spaces, painting, etc. Why can’t mobile focus on the kids stuff?

@playswave_com Can you use PSVR controllers like in No Man's Sky, where you stabilize the controller on your thigh and then grab it to set the stick's zero position? It's hard to fly with precision in other VR flight games if you're forced to hold the controller in the air out in front of you.

Stunning in VR but brutal to learn: Aces of Thunder (PSVR2) is a trimmed-down War Thunder. Gorgeous cockpits, epic sound, fiddly PSVR2 controls (DualSense helps; HOTAS ideal). Tons of WWI/WW2 planes, 10-mission campaign. #PSVR2 (1/2)

@bcherny For the past 2 weeks Claude Chrome fails to work with Claude Code. I see lot of ppl complain but no clear indication by Anthropic that they are aware or working to solve it. Will you please look into the matter? Feel free to respond here or DM for more info. Below is a screenshot with V2.1.32 and Opus 4.6

I've been using Opus 4.6 for a bit -- it is our best model yet. It is more agentic, more intelligent, runs for longer, and is more careful and exhaustive. For Claude Code users, you can also now more precisely tune how much the model thinks. Run /model and arrow left/right to tune effort (less = faster, more = longer thinking & better results). Happy coding!
Claude@claudeai

Introducing Claude Opus 4.6. Our smartest model got an upgrade. Opus 4.6 plans more carefully, sustains agentic tasks for longer, operates reliably in massive codebases, and catches its own mistakes. It’s also our first Opus-class model with 1M token context in beta.

@bozoid @benz145 Consider this angle: In <decade all those 13 year olds will be in workforce *with* VR legs, ready for mature titles, with hmds of even better standalone capabilities. Lame for us enthusiasts now, but retention data show most adults don't do what it takes to get VR legs.

Quest is said to be “struggling” because Meta is shifting priorities, yet this just happened. Less than 6 months post-launch, a game is setting record numbers on the platform: • 245k reviews (Quest record) • 4.9★ rating (Quest record for so many reviews) • 1.2M unique players • 100k+ DAU • 40k peak CCU • #1 weekly top seller (over GT, AC, Beat Saber) • $14 ARPU in first 3 months Why isn't the industry talking about this more? roadtovr.com/ug-vr-most-pop…

@GoogleAI It's difficult concentrating on the translated speech when you can also hear the original language in the background. If wearing earbuds, any way to turn original down if not entirely cancel it out and hone in on translated speech?

Funny enough, the (CANCELLED) Quest 4 that was once roadmapped to release next year Actually wasn’t going to have very different LCDs than the ones in Steam Frame. Only SLIGHTLY higher res in one direction But it would have included eye tracking, color passthrough and XR2 Gen 3

@QuestWithMatt Paid audience (not kids in free games) must 10x to support releases. I use Q3 often, & haven't played AC, RE4, or others b/c I'm busy with S&S, Asgard, Behemoth stories. & that's when I'm not in quick match of boxing, Pavlov, Battle Talent, etc. Library is actually deep.

@SadlyItsBradley @GregoryMcFadden @RealBichler Which is your main eye? Mine its left and feel like monocular in right would be like trying to keep both eyes open on a rifle staring down iron sights with less dom eye: Not going to work well. Wish they would give l or r mono option, but it'd increase complexity/cost.

I’m now convinced that smart glasses with only a monocular display cannot be mass market anytime soon I think with current technology: people are way better off without a display rather than the tradeoffs of adding a single one and I don’t expect Apple or Google to solve it

@andrewtek @Hero_Kvatch The fresnels + accompanying bulk suck, but honestly the brightness of psvr2 makes up for it. The microoled screen of AVP and pancakes lens of Q3 are superb, but lack of brightness dulls experience. I keep going back to psvr2 for AAA game experiences.

@Heaney555 @30SecondYou @UploadVR Isn't right-eye-only placement a fatal flaw? L/R options increase mfg costs, and full AR isn't ready, but for left-eye-dom users, it'd be like using iron sights w/ secondary eye, no? Eyes should stay open; closing one to see content would be dumb device. Hope they've solved this.

@30SecondYou @UploadVR Correct, it means you get a small display in your right eye, and nothing in your left eye. What that feels like in practice is quite hard to explain, and also depends on exactly where in your view the HUD is positioned.
