Merry Christmas! While the country celebrates, NCTC professionals are on watch, protecting Americans from threats many will never see. Their dedication and sacrifice are essential to our national security. To those on duty and the families who support them, we honor your service and wish you a peaceful holiday.

The altar at our Christmas mass was ablaze with Poinsettias this year, which always reminds me of my distant predecessor Joel R. Poinsett, the first US envoy to Mexico. He introduced the plant known there as “nochebuena” (Holy Night) to the US upon his return, and we now refer to it by his name. I miss the great flower markets of Mexico at this time of year!

@ChrisLandauUSA We've all heard so much good about the outreach and efforts in Mexico. We need a great partner for the new hemispheric strategy in LatAm. Mexico is a wonderful cultural and historic source of wealth. Merry Christmas to you and yours and hope the new embassy goes all out in 2026!

I'm continually impressed by how quickly language evolves in the hands of "Our Democracy" propagandists. You're not censoring social media, of course. You're merely exercising "digital sovereignty." "Digital sovereignty." Read that again. Censorship is "digital sovereignty." Criticizing censorship becomes "undermining European digital sovereignty." Goebbels himself couldn't have come up with anything better. If half your ingenuity were spent on improving France rather than laundering authoritarian impulses through euphemism, Paris might be less of a trash heap, and possibly worth visiting again.

France condemns the visa restriction measures taken by the United States against Thierry Breton and four other European figures. These measures amount to intimidation and coercion aimed at undermining European digital sovereignty. The European Union’s digital regulations were adopted following a democratic and sovereign process by the European Parliament and the Council. They apply within Europe to ensure fair competition among platforms, without targeting any third country, and to ensure that what is illegal offline is also illegal online. The rules governing the European Union’s digital space are not meant to be determined outside Europe. Together with the European Commission and our European partners, we will continue to defend our digital sovereignty and our regulatory autonomy.

@balajis Americans won't get Chinese EV tech for the next decade. American firms might not match Chinese EV tech and deploy within America for the next decade. We should be competing better. It's almost impressive how inefficient we are now. A sense of urgency would help.

To be clear: I will always be an Elon supporter, and of course Tesla pioneered modern EV technology, but the Chinese companies in this space are highly competent and not to be underestimated. BYD announced their charger earlier this year, in March: byd.com/mea/news-list/…

This is the EV flippening. Electric vehicles now fill up roughly as fast as gas. The new BYD chargers add 400km of range in just five minutes.

@SecRubio @StateDept Don't let them debank, sanction, or penalize Americans and American firms. Don't let them detain or arrest Americans who travel, live, or work in Europe. Consular Affairs folks need to be up to date on language, statecraft, and tradecraft for the next wave of European diplomacy.

For far too long, ideologues in Europe have led organized efforts to coerce American platforms to punish American viewpoints they oppose. The Trump Administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship. Today, @StateDept will take steps to bar leading figures of the global censorship-industrial complex from entering the United States. We stand ready and willing to expand this list if others do not reverse course.
