Whether you are for or against the Iran war, can you imagine how you would feel if the folks who flew a helicopter into your wife and son said adding ADS-B In to military aircraft would create “unresolved budgetary burdens” and then asked for this? I don’t need to imagine.
Jeff Stein@JStein_WaPo

SCOOP: The Pentagon asked the White House today for more than *$200 billion* for the Iran war supplemental, sources say Some White House aides think Congress won't support b/c it's so big Will tee up giant battle in Congress

This is Christine and Spencer in 2013. 5 years after @NTSB first recommended ADS-B IN. NTSB asked at least 16 more times. S didn't live to see his 17th bday. The @famofflight5342 ask the @TransportDems and @TransportGOP : please listen to NTSB this time. Mandate ADS-B IN.

My sincere thanks to @RepFriedmanCA of @TransportDems and @RepDWStweets for joining as ROTOR Act cosponsors. I'm open-minded to an ALERT Act that meets the @NTSB's ADS-B In recommendations, but it's important to keep all pathways to getting this done right open.

Dear @TransportGOP @TransportDems, My brother should be here. Instead of a birthday, it was grief. Instead of a wedding, it was a funeral. Instead of holiday convos, I speak to him through his urn. Mandate ADS-B In where ADS-B Out is required. All airspace and aircraft.

I commend @SecDuffy's announcement to enhance safety protocols around airports to better protect against another tragedy. While this is good progress, the ROTOR Act, which I introduced with support from the majority of Congress, would require the FAA to review the actual route designs around airports across the country, and require ADS-B In, a valuable technology that enhances a pilot's situational awareness. @FAANews
Secretary Sean Duffy@SecDuffy

🚨BREAKING: Enhanced safety protocols go into effect TODAY at airports nationwide Air traffic controllers will now actively manage helicopters in areas near busy airports 🚁 ✈️ SAFETY is the #1 PRIORITY at @USDOT under the Trump administration @FAANews

Two recent close calls between helicopters and airplanes... again. Close calls that continue to put the lives of American travelers at risk. How many more "near misses" and "close calls" will Congress tolerate before the ROTOR Act is made law?

!! The FAA announces there were two more recent close calls between a passenger jet and a helicopter. On Feb. 27, AA 1657 and a police helicopter nearly collided on Feb 27 at San Antonio International airport. On March 2, a private plane and helicopter were on converging courses before the helicopter pulled away to prevent a collision at Hollywood Burbank airport. NTSB Chair @JenniferHomendy has warned, repeatedly, that a mid-air collision could happen at Burbank because of heavy airspace traffic.

We need @TransportGOP and @TransportDems to join the fight and pass a real ADS-B In mandate with common sense restrictions on military exceptions for ADS-B Out.

While it's true that @famofflight5342 are fighting in honor of the 67 people we lost, we're not fighting FOR them. It's too late for them. We're fighting for YOUR family members. Terrifying near misses still happen all of the time.

If 67 dead family members isn't enough for the aviation industry to invest in ADS-B In and other safety technologies, perhaps stories about public safety challenges, inconvenienced travelers, or airlines being forced to reduce volume at hub airports like ORD will be. 🧵10/10

Second, we need to be ambitious with our investment in ATC and collision avoidance technologies. Right now, the entrenched special interests and sympathetic members of Congress are blocking the basics, like a true ADS-B In mandate. 🧵9/10

A mark of leadership I look for is doing the right thing even when it may be unpopular. @SecDuffy and @FAA_Bryan demonstrated that today by suspending visual separation for helicopters in Class B, Class C, and Terminal Radar Service Areas. Here's why this is a big deal. 🧵1/10
