BIG NEWS! THE MIKAELA NAYLON GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT IS IN THE END OF YEAR PACKAGE (aka the CR!) !! This week the House will vote and next week, the Senate will vote. There are still risks it could fall apart, but this is a good day. We dedicate this day to all the kids and young adults who will not have a chance to benefit from the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act. Thank you to all of us who reposted, created posts, shared, and tagged. Thank you to all the kids - for Climbing the Hill and sharing your journey, for emailing Congressional offices, for speaking to reporters. It mattered.

SENATE: PASS THE MIKAELA NAYLON GIVE KIDS A CHANCE ACT NOW! "The thought of making it to the end of the day isn't in the cards for me right now. I'm still taking chemo in hopes that it will kill this thing, but it keeps taking everything away from me. I am 16. I have dreams and aspirations. And I want to make sure that others receive a better standard of care." -- Mikaela Naylon, FDA OSI Osteosarcoma Conference, October 10, 2025. @LeaderJohnThune @SenSchumer @BernieSanders @PattyMurray @SenatorBaldwin @ChrisMurphyCT @timkaine @SenatorHassan @Hickenlooper @SenMarkey @AlsobrooksForMD @SenLBR @SenatorAndyKim @SenCassidy @SenatorRandPaul @SenatorCollins @lisamurkowski @SenMullin @SenatorMarshall @HawleyMO @SenTuberville @SenatorTimScott @SenatorBanks @SenatorHusted @SenMoody

Federal funding for pediatric cancer research has always been profoundly inadequate and now federal funding for pediatric cancer research has taken a new low -- from not promising continued funding for studies of academic drugs in PBTC's now defunded consortium, to the decision not to fund Duane Mitchell at @UFPharmD 's promising brain tumor research that scored higher than 93% of all submitted grant proposals. What do children with cancer need to do to get support for pediatric cancer research? @JoeBaber1

@realEstateTrent Grew up near there, lots of family in CP. It’s ok. Good proximity to Chicago and nice people. Lack of culture, opportunity and extreme weather are the downsides.

Not all DFR programs are created equal, and neither are their price tags. Some vendors make their solutions seem less expensive by concealing the actual costs of extra equipment, additional staffing, and unspoken fees. Our VP of Aviation, Rahul Sidhu, explains in his latest article how to calculate the true cost of a DFR program and avoid being misled. ✅ Understand the DFR cost per square mile formula ✅ Spot misleading pricing tactics ✅ Ensure your agency gets real value, not just a sales pitch Read the full breakdown here: bit.ly/3EruF6e

There’s a bit of confusion as to what happened last night. By the end: — none of our bills were in the CR — Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act passed. It was UC’ed in the Senate. It had passed the House months ago. The result is a total of $63m for funding. — the Give Kids a Chance Act went to a UC in the Senate and Sen Paul blocked it. Now companies won’t do studies of cancer cocktails for kids. — the Give Kids a Chance Act also includes 2 other bills. One is the PRV reauthorization. The PRV program expired last night at midnight. The PRVs had resulted in over 65 new drugs for kids with cancer and other severe illnesses. — the Give Kids a Chance Act also includes another bill, the Innovation in Pediatric Drugs Act. Because that Act did not pass last night, companies that fail to complete pediatric post market studies do not face the financial penalties that they would if the failed studies are for adults. — the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care did not have a UC vote and did not pass. As a result, kids on Medicaid who have cancer or other medically complex illnesses still can’t cross state lines to seek treatment, even if that treatment is better or even life saving.
Michael Bennet@SenatorBennet

After Trump and his cronies torpedoed a bipartisan effort to pass several important health care bills, I went to the Senate floor one last time to try and pass my bill to help children with cancer. This bill would help the sickest kids, but @SenRandPaul stood in the way. This is today’s Republican Party. I’ll never stop fighting to put America’s kids first.

This is not getting the attention it deserves. Supporting kids w cancer should be a non partisan no-brainer

Unfortunately, the childhood cancer research matter is not yet moot. @elonmusk, please help. I know you care about children. Please contact me — we can fix this. — none of our bills were in the final CR — Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act passed after a Senate UC. It had passed the House months ago. The result is a total of $63m for funding. — the Give Kids a Chance Act went to a UC in the Senate and the UC failed. Now companies won’t do studies of cancer cocktails for kids. Cost=0 — The PRV program expired last night at midnight. The PRVs had resulted in over 65 new drugs for kids with cancer and other severe illnesses. Companies lost a source of no dilutive capital for drug development for kids with cancer and other rare life threatening illnesses. Cost=0 — Innovation in Pediatric Drugs Act did not pass. Now, companies that fail to complete pediatric post market studies do not face the financial penalties that they would if the failed studies are for adults. Cost =0 — the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care did not pass. As a result, kids on Medicaid who have cancer or other medically complex illnesses still can’t cross state lines to seek treatment, even if that treatment is better or even life saving. Cost is quite low because the Medicaid expense is in one state or another.

@chamath As the parent of a kid who battled stage 4 cancer, I do not find the saga fascinsting. I find it infuriating. Thankfully, my child survived. He actually lobbied on Capitol Hill for the original bill. It’s a sad day for us and all cancer kids.

I find the pediatric cancer bill saga very fascinating. It was apparently passed in March and then went to the Senate where it languished. It was then pushed back into an omnibus CR in the house that was on its way to being approved before the bill died. Was that a tactic to save the pediatric cancer bill for later so it could be used to wrap an otherwise pork barrel CR with some surface credibility? I don’t know as I have not actually read the bill’s specifics but the naming of it, at least, is trying to tell the reader it is righteous and good. In any event, does this happen often? Is this how Congress works - which is to say, not at all except at the last minute at which point it uses a few branches of good work around which they hang all kinds of messy projects, kickbacks and favors?

@KindlyLoudly I’m so very sorry for your loss. We had a similar path to stage 4 dx. My son’s GP told us to go on our vacation to Tahiti after seeing the chest x-ray -she thought it was nothing. Turns out he had a 11.8 cm tumor. Had I not insisted on a CT scan, we might not have caught it.
