@edwinhammeren @madsssagascar thats exactly the point of art though, it provokes thought about what the artist's intent might have been, what emotions they may have been feeling etc. why this person who spent so much time learning a craft might have taken the time to create this particular peice of art.

@madsssagascar Hm, but running the marathon is the point of the marathon, not the destination. So unless the point of the art is the process itself, the end result is what matters. And if the end result is the same or close to it, this argument holds no water.

@irfanil @verge For starters, it's not the same image, the angle is slightly different. Both are screenshots of the same scene but with different timing, so there may be flashing lights, etc, causing the difference. Or one could be ps5 pro and the other base ps5

@niksurs @MarathonTheGame I think it's too late, but 60+ FPS VRR mode, PS5+Xbox defualt crossplay mode (instead of vsPC), and 3-stacks should be quarantined to their own playlist. The main problem is sweaty 3-stacks making the solo experience incredibly miserable, and most players are solos, so they quit

If @MarathonTheGame can somehow find a way to optimize Marathon to run at 120 FPS on console instead of 60, player counts would genuinely skyrocket imo, it’s a lose-lose between pc and console as pc offers a smoother experience but with cheaters and console offers a safer place to play legit but at 60 FPS in 2026. If console had a 120 FPS option Marathon would see a rise in players who would switch back just to have a fair chance and an even playing field.

@cin_Aamon yes it was solo im trying to farm contracts +5 for every runner you exfil with every 5 exfils is a redemption every redemption is 500 rep 500/5 = 100 you get 50 arachne rep for thirsting

i just got killed at exfil with a free kit guys it's more rep efficient to just exfil with the guy who has nothing instead of thirsting him now you get 5 cyac redemption points per 5x exfils with randos gets you one redemption for 500 that's 2x the xp you get for thirsting

@Geezaws2 the problem is people who have too much free time stomping on people who don't, there needs t be an easier way for low level players to get the better loot, even if there is a level or vault value cap on PvE entry. making high level gear rarer only punishes people with less time

A thread on how I'd design a PvE mode for Marathon: 1) Separate lockers. Players who choose to engage the PvE mode would be effectively on a different launcher, no single item acquired from the PvP side can be ported to the PvPvE mode, no exceptions. not even a single credit.

Marathon has sold 1.2M copies across Steam, PS5, and Xbox (@alineaanalytics estimates). It hasn't exactly made the splash Sony and Bungie wanted, even if the game underneath the surface is a MASTERWORK of design. Looking at the split between Steam, PS5, and Xbox, Steam is clearly the main platform for Marathon, accounting for a little under 70% of the audience (800K copies sold). Meanwhile, PS5 takes about 19% (217K) and Xbox (including console, PC, and cloud) accounts for a bit over 11% or 133K. Marathon is technically a first-party Sony title, so seeing the home console struggle to break 20% of the volume is a notable data point for the ongoing platform-agnostic debate. PlayStation Studios online games will almost certainly continue being multiplatform (despite Sony reportedly pulling back on PC releases). One topic that came up in a lot of conversations at GDC this year was why Marathon hasn’t hit the same stratosphere as Arc Raiders. On paper, they’re both extraction shooters, and Marathon has the Bungie pedigree – the house that built the gold standard for gunplay in Halo and Destiny. My answer: Players understand the Arc Raiders loop within 30 minutes, while Marathon's UI acts as a massive filter, chewing up newcomers and spitting them out before they can experience the depth of Bungie’s signature gunplay and Marathon's awesome gameplay loop. The Steam copies sold during each game's respective Server Slam paint a picture there. Arc Raiders saw a massive 80% jump in copies sold during its three-day Server Slam. Marathon, meanwhile, saw a 49% increase in the four days following its Slam (Day -7 to -3). Despite the friction-heavy start, the data suggests that those who survived Marathon’s onboarding are loving life. We’ve been tracking cross-platform DAUs, and while there’s the expected post-launch leakage, many players are sticking with it. After peaking at 478K total DAUs on its first Saturday, Marathon has settled into a respectable rhythm, holding 345K DAUs as of yesterday and averaging 380K DAUs across the weekend. On Steam, Marathon’s average playtime has climbed to 27.8 hours, significantly outpacing the console averages on PS5 (16.5h) and Xbox (17.3h). Even more telling than the averages: 22% of the Steam audience has surged past the 50-hour mark, and nearly 7% have already logged over 100 hours. PlayStation and Bungie are at a crossroads here. They can: 1. Double down on Marathon with a long-term Rainbow Six Siege- or No Man’s Sky-style recovery plan, which is something I heard @ChrisRGun smartly mention last week on Sacred Symbols. While this could be a sunk-cost fallacy in action, it could eventually yield the audience the game’s mechanical depth deserves. 2. Shift focus toward the inevitable Destiny 3 or another project, mitigating the escalating opportunity cost and cutting their losses, so to speak. Doing both is an expensive proposition, given the high overhead and burn rate of operating out of Bellevue, Washington. With Sony recently demonstrating a lower threshold for underperforming studios and projects, the margin for error has vanished. Whatever happens, the next six months will determine whether Marathon becomes a cornerstone of Sony’s live-service portfolio or a cautionary tale of vision exceeding accessibility. I’m hoping it’s the former, because Marathon fucking rocks. Big analysis on the free Substack, with lots more data and thoughts (link in bio)

@SaneGamer @mrpyo1 I don't think that many people care about a remake studio, yes it was nice to have some older games with some fresh paint but I'd much rather they focus on new games, something bluepoint wasn't experienced with other than as a support studio.

As if we needed any more proof of what an absolutely incredible achievement Dreams is amongst 3d software and game engines that all seems to agree, that world building in 3d is an engineering task moreso than a creative endeavor. All made on a Playstation - every asset, interaction and game mechanic.

I made a Crash Bandicoot level in Dreams PS5 just for fun in one week. Crash puppet by PickaPlayer. Fully playable on PSVR too. Seriously, people have no idea how powerful Dreams is.

@Gamefan1992 Take 2 just uses a 2:1 (ps5:xbox series) ratio to estimate xbox numbers based on reported ps5 numbers due to the fact xbox doesn't disclose numbers. The 2:1 ratio is outdated and has been a higher split for years
