@Ezra_Cohen_ @BritishProgress Solid paper but tapers are just slow-motion cliff edges. Why not scrap the PA clawback and raise the higher rate 3p to 43%? You'd actually cut the effective rate for everyone between £100-125k (from 62% to 43%) while raising more revenue.

No one should lose out by working more, but the UK’s tax cliffs can mean exactly that for low & high earners. In a new @britishprogress paper, we show how the government can end this at no extra cost. And we built a tool to show how it would affect you: tax-cliffs.vercel.app

Great to welcome our local MP @ChelFulhamBen to Pearly Whites today. We had an open and honest conversation about the state of NHS dentistry: the challenges practices like ours face delivering care under the current contract, and what meaningful reform could look like.

One reason small businesses (including mine!) often under-invest: Textbooks often treat business reinvestment opportunities like certainties (spend X on marketing, generate Y in incremental gross profit). In real life, the choice is more like: “reasonable chance this $100k grows revenue by an unknown %age” vs. “the certainty I own a new boat” - For more on real estate and small business, join my mailing list at moseskagan.com

@yidal1985 @InvertTheWing The only player I’d say has shown real, clear improvement since Conte came in is Kulusevski. Maybe you could argue Spence but hard to know if he got better or just wasn’t given an opportunity. And VDV has been largely great too, but he pretty much was from day one.

I would also sell Pape Sarr. Absolutely zero improvement in his game in 4 seasons. It’s incredibly concerning. Takes too long to move the ball, only excels when he’s given acres of space. Decent option off the bench.

@ROTS1882 They’re going to have a lot of trouble selling tickets at this price. I think of ST holders relied on confidently being able to sell a chunk of matches on the exchange, which has become far from a given.

Honestly I think the only realistic solution to the decreasing quality of service in the West is robots I don't think even if you fix the societal problems of high cost of living (which people say is why people suck at their jobs these days, fair) that anyone will want to do these jobs anymore in the West at least When ChatGPT 4 was here I already thought it'd do a better job than 99% of people working in service jobs, imagine now With modern AI models and robotics, I think companies will be able to produce a much much better service experiences than humans I don't know if it'll be fully automated hotels, restaurants, cafes, airline service staff, or humanoid robots, or something in between Who wants a grumpy tired human if you can get a friendly humanoid helping you? Do I prefer the enshittification to stop and instead have humans? Yes I absolutely do ideally but I'm just realistic that I doubt that's going to happen in the West People doing service jobs in the West hate their jobs, people hate interacting with them because they hate their jobs, and meanwhile robots can do a 10x better job for 1000x cheaper Inevitable I think

Luxury is absolutely done in the West, it literally does not exist anymore It doesn't matter if you pay $100 or $10,000, there's no tiers of service quality anymore, not in hotels, airlines, restaurants, product quality, it's all the same level of enshittification where nobody gives a fuck about their work anymore Luxury still exists once you go to Asia though, you still get excellent service at both $100 or $10,000 levels from Thailand to China to Japan And in the Gulf states like Qatar and Dubai

In January of 2024 I bought a small cleaning business with my friend from high school @651Michael for $17k (1x earning) 2024 Revenue: $117k Labor: $72k Marketing: $2.6k Other Costs (VA, ins, etc): $10k SDE: $32.4k 2025 Revenue: $181k Labor: $101k Marketing: $7.8k Other Costs (VA, ins, supplies, etc): $17.8k SDE: $54.4k Michael has been crushing the day to day with answering calls, shooting + editing the ads, doing the cleans where needed, hiring - literally everything. Very grateful to him! We had no idea what we were doing and just installed our first CRM last week (GHL) and had zero automated ways to follow up with leads before this. How do we double this in 2026?

@moseskagan @xwanyex Or you can make it so that immigrants are not eligible for welfare. I live in the UK on a spousal visa and I am not eligible for welfare/“benefits”. Not that the UK is exactly a great example of doing immigration “right” but this feels trivial to execute?

@xwanyex I think you could easily justify it if the payback were high enough (like, if you were highly confident the immigrants themselves or their children would add sufficient value to society to pay back the benefits and then some)

Libertarians have pointed out for years that you can’t have both mass immigration and a welfare state. Of course, they say this because they want to keep immigration high and eliminate welfare, but the basic point is sound. It’s just an absurdity that we bring new people to the country and then tax natives to give them welfare. There’s really no way to justify it. It’s an absurdity.

The wildest thing about the Somali daycare scandal is that apparently the government’s goal was to subsidize daycares for random immigrants while tax paying American parents have been complaining for years they can barely afford childcare with two incomes

@THSTOfficial How does it make sense that I can buy a guest a new ticket when a match hits Guest Sale, but I’m blocked from transferring my existing ST seat to that same person? It’s a ridiculous double standard that only leads to empty seats.

@MattGubba The effective tax rate at £100K (inclusive of corporation tax) for a university educated ltd co owner is 44.4%, and the marginal rate is 61%!!! Marginal rate climbs to 63.5% at £125K. It’s truly insanity (I say this as someone in their first year as a limited co owner)

Ten years ago, a small business owner taking a £100k dividend could pay as little as £2,500 in personal tax if structured efficiently under the old dividend tax system. Today in 2025, they’re paying £21,250. Next year, under Labour’s new budget, they’ll pay over £23,000. And that’s after the company has already paid 25% corporation tax on the profits used to fund that dividend. In a decade, we’ve gone from a manageable tax bill to one where the state takes nearly a quarter of the dividend on top of corporation tax before the owner sees a penny. That’s a nearly 800% increase in personal tax on the same £100k. All for the crime of running a business in Britain. - This is why entrepreneurship is dying here. - This is why people aren’t scaling. - This is why founders are taking their companies and jobs abroad. If you want growth, stop treating business owners like a bottomless ATM. Britain needs entrepreneurs, not policies that punish them for succeeding.

Read a post on here recently that boiled down to: "The best moat for a service business is a brand built by decades of local advertising" I think this is probably right and we're doing some, but I want to do more. What are some examples of effective local advertising media (bus benches, billboards, etc.) for reaching investment property owners?

6:30am text? I’ll respond in 3 min. 8:55pm call on a Sunday? I’ll pick it up on the first ring. I tend to shock my clients with my responsiveness. I’ll grow out of it once I have kids, but I’m 100% positive it’s part of my early success as a CRE broker. Simple things.
