Tina Peters did bad stuff and she was wrong to do it, but five years is a completely reasonable sentence for a non violent crime that resulted in no actual harm.
Long prison sentences are for defendants who hurt people and are likely to do it again.

The E. Jean Carroll case was built almost entirely on hearsay - Carroll’s word + what her friends claimed she told them decades earlier. Clinton-appointed Judge Kaplan even let the 2005 Access Hollywood tape (unrelated to Carroll) be played for the jury! No physical evidence of rape existed. No way to corroborate or refute witness testimony. This testimony would not even have been allowed in a criminal trial! The jury explicitly found: No rape occurred! Only after the verdict did Kaplan declare it was “rape” under some “common definition.” What a clown show. #lawfare Only in New York.

The Electoral College decides who becomes president, not the popular vote. No matter who individual voters in places like Louisiana choose, the candidate with the majority wins all the state's electoral votes.
When the Electoral College was created, it included the Three-Fifths Compromise, which counted enslaved Black people as three-fifths of a person for the purpose of determining a state’s total population. This gave extra electoral votes to states with slavery, which made a big difference.
In the Election of 1800, Thomas Jefferson (a slaveholder) beat John Adams (an abolitionist) largely because of the additional electoral votes Southern states gained through the three-fifths clause.

It's nearly impossible to disentangle race and partisanship in the South, which is why this ruling could have such apocalyptic consequences for Black representation across the Deep South (more likely in '28 than '26).

Not a legal expert, but to my plain reading this is the passage in the ruling that seems most concerning for the future strength of Section 2, and likely why Elena Kagan was so alarmed in dissent. The key question going forward: can plaintiffs produce evidence for any current Black-majority Southern district showing that racially polarized voting exists in a way that cannot simply be explained by party affiliation?

Spare me the complaints about Virginia's new districts. This is my new district in Texas. Unlike VA, I wasn't able to vote on it.
The blue area is a very diverse part of the Dallas suburbs that was carved out & threw in with a bunch of rural (red) voters as far as 180 miles away!

For the 10000th time. Any one who was following the WI vote at 1 am and had any clue about WI politics knew then that the vote would be even in the morning. You knew it because lots of votes in Milwaukee weren't in and Milwaukee goes overwhelmingly for Democrats. I told my wife that and we went to bed. And that's just what happened. It was really close and Biden won by a tad.

This tweet is a beautiful collection of the lies Trump supporters have swallowed - and now repeat - in order to convince themselves the election was stolen. In reality: Michigan and Wisconsin never stopped counting votes on Election Night. And in Michigan and Pennsylvania, Trump supporters were actually yelling "Stop the count!" because they didn't want mail-in ballots to be counted. There were not "various catastrophic events" in key swing counties. There was a minor water leak in Fulton County, which delayed counting by a couple of hours. Only one polling station, in Detroit, boarded its windows, and there were poll watchers inside when it did so. That graph is the graph of all of the absentee ballots from Milwaukee being incorporated into the Wisconsin count in one big batch, as Wisconsin law requires. There's nothing surprising or sketchy about it.

After my daughter’s pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente tried to put her on puberty blockers and wrong-sex hormones when she was only 14, I did an undercover story when I pretended to be “nonbinary.” I was approved by my Kaiser doctors over Zoom for a double mastectomy (top surgery) and a phalloplasty (fake p*nis) made from the skin tissue on my thigh in under 9 months. It was only a $100 co-pay for my elective mastectomy and $200 co-pay for my phalloplasty yet the surgeons would bill $25k for mastectomy and $135k for the phalloplasty. @FTC @SwipeWright @aboutKP
