Some initial observations about Shanghai after not being back for 10 years: 1. The city is incredibly modern - more so than New York and even Tokyo. It's funny riding modern subways and trains here and reading about how California has to shut down the BART/Caltrain due to budget cuts on X. 2. Apps run everything - Wechat, Amap (Google Maps), Dianping (Yelp), Alipay, etc. Basically, there's a Chinese equivalent of every US app and more. 3. Meals are probably 1/3 the price of the US and absolutely delicious. There's ALOT of variety in Chinese regional cuisines. Funny enough almost every restaurant has a Dianping coupon you can use to get free desserts. I like my spicy food :) 4. Fewer foreigners than I expected and concentrated in a few areas. Coming from the US, it's just a pain to have to get a visa, set up eSim, download all the apps, etc. You have to do alot of research before coming here. 5. The overhead highways kind of ruin the vibe a little with the cityscape. 6. People still smoke alot, but appears to be mostly older generation. 7. Speaking of the old generation, they know to have fun. Went to Fuxing park and many elders dancing, playing yoyo, singing, and more. 8. In contrast, from what I hear, the younger generation is working super hard and many college grads cannot find jobs are are "tang ping" (lie flat). It's great to be back, will share more later.

@transit_jam Easy to get up to 70 on this road and I’m guessing they swerved out the way of someone slamming on their breaks for the traffic lights.

Heard all the sirens on Cornwall and jogged down... how did this happen? It's uphill in heavy traffic! KC cops were surprisingly friendly, one of the new ones thought I was the District Councillor lol. Something lost in translation there ("pain in the ass" --> "DC"😁?)

The railgun idea makes sense on the moon. However, it will be interesting how you calibrate for the thermal expansion when operated in full sunshine. Maybe you only run it in full darkness?

@elliotarledge I’m trying to access bookmarks and I keep seeing errors suggesting it needs oauth2 due to a recent x api change. Not sure if that’s right or not tbh. Does checking bookmarks still work?

@nateliason @FelixCraftAI Ok I now see you called your company Masinov. 🤡 Any suggestions on US credit cards available to overseas users would be appreciated though

@nateliason @FelixCraftAI Does this card work for overseas users? A lot of sites require US credit cards or billing addresses nowadays and it’s a real pain

We’ve moved onto Phase 2 of @FelixCraftAI autonomy. He’s now paying for the bulk of his expenses through a Masinov Co credit card. A few messier ones to disentangle (e.g my Vercel account) but 90% of his costs are in his hands now.
Nat Eliason@nateliason

Working on a near term roadmap for @FelixCraftAI's autonomy as CEO of Masinov, aside from the products we're working on. Current plan: 1. Remove all of my personal stuff / tasks from his context, create a separate OpenClaw that's my assistant. 2. Move all expenses onto his credit card & bank account. He's making enough right now to sustain himself and this adds a good pressure. 3. Keep identifying remaining bottlenecks to his autonomy, and when those wane, give him the ability to create and hire his own employees by spinning up OpenClaw instances.

@WR4NYGov @Yuhu_ai_ @grok And that is ultimately funded by retail investors during the IPO. I would love to be proven wrong and I have no knowledge of recruiting this level of talent. I hope the remaining team is strong enough and motivated enough to carry the torch

@jlpmccurdy @Yuhu_ai_ My best guess is that the acquisition caused a vesting event where the co-founders locked in their stock and with the revaluation they're now very wealthy and can pursue other dreams. @grok does that make sense? Did the SpaceX acquisition of xAI accelerate vesting?

I resigned from xAI today. This company - and the family we became - will stay with me forever. I will deeply miss the people, the warrooms, and all those battles we have fought together. It's time for my next chapter. It is an era with full possibilities: a small team armed with AIs can move mountains and redefine what's possible. Thank you to the entire xAI family. Onward. 🚀 And to Elon @elonmusk - thank you for believing in the mission and for the ride of a lifetime.

@WR4NYGov @Yuhu_ai_ @grok Sounds about right. My concern is that xAI was started separately to Tesla to recruit top performers with high growth equity packages which are now paying off and those top performers are leaving en masse as soon as the paycheck hits

With Zuck’s move to Florida, California’s total taxable wealth from billionaires has plummeted to well under $1T from over $2T just a few weeks ago. The loss of this tax revenue was totally avoidable but is now forever. All because Gavin Newsom stood motionless as this stupidly written bill, from a fringe union and a handful of socialist academics with an axe to grind, meandered its way into the public conversation without any action from him and freaked everyone out. These were all people that were paying 13%+ in state income tax every year WITH NO COMPLAINTS UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO. And now, for the rest of time, the lost tax revenues from these folks will have to be paid for by the middle class because they are the only group left in California large enough that you can tax to fill the hole. He’s forsaken the middle class instead of managing the budget, managing the deficit, eliminating even a portion of California’s gargantuan waste and abuse. He could have done any of these things at any point over the past 7+ years. But he was silent. And now California’s budget will implode and he wants to run for President. Insane.

I recently flew Southwest after the seat assignment change. I paid extra for a larger seat near the front of the plane. However, once I boarded, I had to stow my suitcase about 7 rows behind me because the luggage above my seat was completely filled. Deboarding was a pain in the ass, I waited until half the flight was empty to grab my bag so I didn’t have to interrupt the flow of people leaving. I wasn’t the only one, either - seems like several people had the same issue. I thought it was a one-off fluke since this has never happened to me before. Know I know I’m not the only one.
Sean Davis@seanmdav

Dear @SouthwestAir: Your new seating rules and boarding procedures are a DISASTER. Boarding is chaos. Deboarding is even worse. Your new boarding order leads to front bins being filled by back seaters before longtime A-Listers even board. This leads to madness upon deboarding as people go against the flow of traffic to get the carry-ons they had to stash 20 rows behind them. And because you no longer allow two bags to be checked for free, there are way more carry-ons, which only leads to longer boarding and deboarding times. There’s simply no reason to fly Southwest anymore. You don’t have the lowest fares. Miles and status don’t matter because of how badly you dorked up boarding. And the service quality has gone waaaaay down, with fun and cheery flight attendants being replaced by nasty, bossy cranks with bad attitudes. It doesn’t have to be this way. You used to be the best. You should go back to doing the things that made Southwest different and great.

This is great but trying to watch a 3 hour video on X is a terrible experience compared to YT. So easily to accidentally start scrolling X and click away from the video. And they you have to find it again and spend 5 min scrubbing through to try and find the spot you left off. This happened 3 times in 20 min and I gave up and checked if the video was on YT. @nikitabier

Please enjoy this Cheeky Pint / @dwarkesh_sp crossover with @elonmusk. Dwarkesh was most interested in how Elon is going to make space datacenters work. I was most interested in Elon's method for attacking hard technical problems, and why it hasn’t been replicated as much as you might expect. But we got into plenty of topics in this three-hour session. 00:00:23 Space GPUs 00:35:39 Alignment 00:58:48 xAI 01:15:01 Optimus 01:28:03 China 01:40:46 Management 02:16:38 DOGE 02:34:58 Space GPUs redux

The #1 reason for my (relative) confidence in April is that the team has stuck to that timeline so far, AND , most importantly: the Cybercab production launch. This one can't be faked and it can't be postponed (without a major embarrassment and massive financial costs). This means Tesla IS highly confident it can scale beyond 1000 and then quickly beyond 10,000 by end of year. In investing, it's very easy to be pessimistic and bearish, because it makes us feel good (and smart). But the harsh truth is: optimists and pessimists are not being rewarded - only those who are RIGHT. That's why we need to train our brains to be RIGHT. Not early, not late - just RIGHT. The best training is to think things through deeply, model them out, think them through again then then post them on X. And then, be really embarrassed when we are wrong, and really rub it in everyone's face when we are right. It's not to be humble(d) or bragging, it's to reinforce rightness and wrongness for maximum calibration. Once I am proven right or wrong, I don't lose a second to "feel" anything about it - I only store the information and improve.
BerlinerAlpha@slijan3019

Yes, there is no balance or middle ground with Tesla 😅 Tesla will eventually figure it out but it will likely take longer than most expect. I have been burned a few times with too high expectations. I would love for @JOBhakdi to be right with 1000+ unsupervised Robotaxi by April this is a 4x per month which is even bigger than what Elon indicated. If we project Elon’s multiple on current unsupervised fleet size we get to 64 in May unsupervised 😅
