Announcing our newest @a16zBioHealth fund: $700M to back the best founders working to make better medicines and to make the practice of medicine better. To cure disease, to care for our sick, to fix what’s broken is deeply ingrained; it is medicine’s highest aim. “At @a16z, we believe that the best thing that a society can do for a person is to give them a chance. Give them a shot at a great life…” - @bhorowitz @vintweeta @julesyoo @BenPortney @Bryan__Faust @zakdoric @JayRughani @daisydwolf @janerheetweets Michael Cialone, Eva Steinman

At Andreessen Horowitz, we just raised over $15B. With these new funds including American Dynamism ($1.176B), Apps ($1.7B), Bio + Health ($700M), Infrastructure ($1.7B), Growth ($6.75B), and other venture strategies ($3B), we raised over 18% of all venture capital dollars allocated in the United States in 2025. Why did we raise the money and how do we plan to invest it? Read more from Ben Horowitz: a16z.news/p/we-raised-15…

Happy birthday, American Biotech! “For 50 years, our biotech sector has done its part to help make…life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness a reality for everyday Americans.” “America remains the world leader in biotech. But rivals like China are seeking to surpass us…Keeping the lead depends on fixing what’s broken — and not breaking what works.” A great post by @IAmBiotech BIO CEO John Crowley 🎂 🇺🇸 🧬 t.co/oqkfITQ2O6

Fantastic news! Congratulations @beckypferdehirt and Radial @AsteraInstitute! What a fantastic platform for supporting and accelerating scientific innovation. (Radial is a great name. Bonus kudos)
Becky Pferdehirt@beckypferdehirt

Big news! I’m joining @AsteraInstitute as CEO of Radial, their new life sciences division. How we fund, do, and build upon science has long needed an update. At Radial, we design, fund, and operate programs that tackle foundational scientific problems while simultaneously testing better ways to do science.

First in Human! When @rhomsany and I first started Octant, this was the dream. A platform that makes molecules that few others can go after… to get the chance to tackle severe diseases with poor to no standard of care. It's been a long journey but so incredibly proud of the team and thankful to the volunteers who make this attempt possible. We got to celebrate with these new sunhats! octant.bio/news/octant-an…

AI agents can execute a full biological data analysis in minutes. But in science, what matters is whether you can trust the results. With one click, Scientific Review turns Biomni Lab into its own skeptical peer reviewer, auditing its work for hallucinated claims, flawed scientific reasoning, statistical inconsistencies, and bugs in code. When issues are identified, the agent corrects them and updates the results. Built for scientific work you can trust. Try Biomni Lab: biomni.phylo.bio See Scientific Review in action🧵

Congrats to the @valarlabs team!! An early glimpse of this data they just published in @JCO_ASCO was actually the original hook for me to back this team... Fantastic to see further validation in multiple clinical datasets. We are setting the bar for clinical evidence high, but using AI insights that could be available for oncology decision-making *today* is not optional, it's an imperative on behalf of patients Appreciate the partnership with @PanCAN and excited to race towards broad clinical adoption @DrHendifar @Aiims1742 @PancPathologist @a16zBioHealth
Anirudh Joshi@anirrjoshi

We just took the guesswork out of pancreatic cancer treatment. I’m incredibly excited to share that our team’s research has been published in the @JCO_ASCO, one of the world's premier medical oncology journals. Our study proves that AI can find predictive signals in standard pathology slides in one of the hardest to treat cancers. This means we can finally match advanced pancreatic cancer patients to the chemotherapy regimen most likely to work for them—saving time when it matters most. Article: ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JC…

This is an outstanding AI product that every curious scientist and biomedical researcher should try out Biomni Lab is available for free: biomni.phylo.bio What I love most about Biomni Lab is that it leverages LLMs trained on public data (eg Claude) but also creates a (secure) environment for local reinforcement learning, in which your AI agents can get smarter as they learn from the results of *your* own most recent experiments, your study conditions, the private datasets you upload, etc. Tools, algos, and methods specific to biomed research (eg say a new algo for gRNA design) are fully integrated — and can keep getting better — within the environment too. Basically what every science lab should *wish* they had... Congrats to the truly cracked team of @KexinHuang5 @YuanhaoQ @jure and @lecong! I've known some of this team since our lab days together at @broadinstitute and can personally confirm that they (and I'm sure their army of AI agents 🤖) are a team that won’t rest until they’ve made their mark on the process of science Go @phylo_bio! And thanks to my partners @JorgeCondeBio @zakdoric for bringing @a16z into this exciting effort.

Today we’re launching Phylo, a research lab studying agentic biology, backed by a $13.5M seed round co-led by @a16z and @MenloVentures / Anthology Fund @AnthropicAI. We’re also introducing a research preview of Biomni Lab, the first Integrated Biology Environment (IBE), where we’re imagining a new way biologists work. Biomni Lab uses agents to orchestrate hundreds of biological databases, software tools, molecular AI models, expert workflows, and even external research services in one workspace, supporting research end-to-end from question to experiment to result. Agents handle the mechanics, while you define the question, then review, steer, and decide. Scientists end up spending more time on science: asking questions, understanding mechanisms, and eliminating diseases. Phylo (@phylo_bio) is a spin-out of @ProjectBiomni, where we will maintain the open-source community and push open-science research. I’m grateful to continue building with my co-founders @YuanhaoQ @jure @lecong and the dream founding team @serena2z @TianweiShe @huangzixin20151 @gm2123 @margaretwhua @malayhgandhi. We’re also fortunate to be advised by leading scientists @zhangf, Carolyn Bertozzi, and @fabian_theis, and supported by an amazing group of investors including @JorgeCondeBio @zakdoric Matt Kraning @ZettaVentures @dreidco @conviction @saranormous @svangel @valkyrie_vc and others. Biomni Lab is available for free today: biomni.phylo.bio Learn more in our launch post: phylo.bio/blog/company-f… We are also hosting launch events - join us at South San Francisco: luma.com/n8k8qb0n Virtual: luma.com/l5ryjaij We’re also hiring! phylo.bio/careers

Biology is messy. Biologists spend too much time tangled in spreadsheets, slides, scripts + paywalled PDFs; they have way too many open browser tabs... So we’re co-leading @phylo_bio’s $13.5M seed round to build the AI Scientist: an agentic orchestration layer for creating hypotheses, analyzing data, running models + generating auditable, reproducible results. As @pmarca says, "the job is not actually the atomic unit of what happens in the workplace. The atomic unit of what happens in the workplace is the task." Phylo’s AI Scientist takes on boring tasks, so human scientists spend more time and mind on science.  @Stanford PhDs + co-founders @KexinHuang5 and @YuanhaoQ built popular open-source @ProjectBiomni, now used in 7000+ labs across academia, hospitals, biotech + pharma.  Phylo’s integrated biology environment, Biomni Lab, will be the homepage for science; the one tab that stays open on every scientist’s laptop. @a16z is excited to partner with @MenloVentures + AnthologyFund/@AnthropicAI to support Phylo’s vision: An AI Scientist built by and for scientists. @zakdoric @daisydwolf @jayrughani Eva Steinman Matt Kraning

@JorgeCondeBio @phylo_bio Biology tools are getting incredible. The data feeding them can be a mess. Faked signals. Stolen records. No way to verify any of it at scale. Is anyone actually solving the input problem? Perhaps a collaboration together? #MatrixAINetwork
