Three dealerships today. All 90+ minutes from my client. Not one will give numbers over the phone. Yelling at me and consistently paranoid I'm cross shopping them. I'm not, I just need a Raptor at MSRP, which is a perfectly reasonable bid in this market. My client is a buyer immediately.
This isn't a one-off. Every single Ford deal I've touched has been a disaster. Missing accessories, wrong builds, last-minute changes, improperly delivered vehicles. No other brand comes close to this level of consistent disorganization.
@jacecraftmiller I may just need you on retainer at this point.
If you're a GM at a Ford store who actually runs a tight operation, my DMs are open. I have clients ready to buy. I just need a partner who can handle basic communication, math, and common courtesy.
Until then, I need an Avalanche Grey Raptor (non-37") with a Moonroof delivered to Charlotte.
@GuyDealership He's right. Consigners like Hollenshead have their own CR writers.
They've been inflating CRs for years to court and keep consigners. All while passing additional "certification" fees to the buyer
Smartauction and the upstream manufacturer sites have better buyer protection.
[NEWS] One Ohio dealer is calling out major gaps in auction condition reports:
Kable Derrow, owner of Findlay CDJR, says “5.0” cars on paper are showing up as “3.5s” in reality.
His speculation:
Some high-volume sellers are being “allowed to write their own ticket,” creating inconsistencies in condition grades.
And leaving dealers chasing refunds and wasting time.
Because of this, he stopped relying on auctions altogether.
Now, about 75% of his used inventory comes from Canada or direct-from-seller channels his team built themselves.
Big picture: With inventory tight and margins thin, Derrow says accuracy is everything — and until it improves, he’s sticking with what he can verify.

@barstoolcarl Ummmm...I find this hard to believe. Name the dealership. A new key would never cost that unless you needed a new ignition as well, like Toyotas from 15 years ago. Max for your Suby should've been mid $350s programmed.
My car dealership quoted me $2,500 for a new key. That seemed like a lot of money so I called a locksmith from Oswego. Jim programmed a new key in my driveway and charged me $125. Why can't the car dealership be more like Jim? Jim rocks.
One of my favorite indicators of consumer demand...
Vehicle brands with MOST 2024 pre-orders:
1) Subaru
2) Kia
3) Chevrolet
4) Toyota

@SirKrebsington@GuyDealership $800 + buy fees in bank lanes at Manheim auction versus half that on $25,000 vehicles for the competition is nice...Also preferential/lower fee structure for the public corporations is BS. The new competitors are awesome with better fees and arbitration.
BREAKING:
Manheim Auto Auctions is exiting Canada — like, entirely.
The entire Canadian remarketing business is being sold to OPENLANE.
So many questions…
@SenatorOMara So what is your plan when they arrive at the Econo Lodge off of Cty Rte 64? There are already what appear to be rehab/work release individuals wandering the parking lots of the surrounding establishments. Are we funding that? All I see are no real proposals from Usptate Repubs.

For the really old school Howard Stern fans, I'm saddened to bring the news that Al Rosenberg's daughter posted on Facebook a couple of hours ago that Al passed today.
Before Artie, before Jackie, there was Al.
@GuyDealership Used market is surging right now. Multiple $1,000 increases on wholesale values on vehicles from just a month ago. The public players (carmax, echopark, carvana) are hitting hard again now. The rentals have also joined back into the party on low mileage units.
Used car market is in the dumps right now.
Yet, most used car dealers I speak with are suddenly VERY busy.
This could spell trouble for consumers.
