The Igbos should take the New York Times hatchet job seriously. That was a hitman’s job! Don’t allow anything to be swept under the rug. Mandate your lawmakers to handle it at plenary immediately. Because Bola is a dangerous man. The @nytimes was the template the BBC used. It set the tone for the infamous Biafra Civil War. Bigotry is his weapon of choice. Igbo Hate became APC’s “unofficial” state policy. The Government of Nigeria has become so foolish & useless, they now resort to beer parlor lobbyists to drive their failed narratives. They gave the New York Times a Ronu template. Planting the story in a left-wing fake media was not to change President Trump’s mind nor change the narrative in Washington. That ship has sailed, & @POTUS dislikes the @nytimes. Bola Tinubu is only trying to pit the North against the Igbos, to gain political mileage. That’s the entire point of the failed psyop. “When caught, blame the Igbos.” Because: If President Trump’s ears were the target, local champions would have given the spotlight to the countless white right-wing media that DT & his henchmen have consistently reposted. A Lagos-Ibadan hatchet job planted in the New York Times & paid for by Nigerian taxpayers. Can you see how they waste your taxes? Taiwo Aina @taiwoaina_ in Lagos ran the fake story for Ruth Maclean @ruthmaclean & @dionnesearcey of the @nytimes to publish. The trio has redefined lazy journalism & pens for hire, & they must be held accountable! This is what the Government of Nigeria use your taxes for. Instead of ending insecurity, (they paid a bunch of Washington-based Lobby Groups & lazy journalists a whopping $9 million to plant fake stories in foreign tabloids). Nigeria has never seen this level of idiosyncrasy before. The recklessness & the carelessness. Then the crudity, the stupidity, the raw bigotry & the crass dereliction of duty. APC Marauders sunk my darling Nigeria down-below-under. The Federal Government of Nigeria is indirectly accusing President Trump & the @WhiteHouse of relying on the information provided by a screwdriver seller (in the predominantly Christian town of Onitsha) to authorize the strikes against terrorists in Sokoto Nigeria? If so, then this is a very weighty allegation, one that @POTUS & his allies won’t take kindly. And if you ever doubted the insincerity of those in power before, now you have the definitive proof that the government of Nigeria is not committed to ending the insecurity. They are rather committed to the pursuit of a more sinister-incendiary agenda, one rooted in infamy, & preconceived to arrive at a certain destination. The aftermath is anyone’s guess! @POTUS @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SecWar @RepRileyMoore @TomColeOK04 @SenTedCruz @DeptofWar @StateDept @HouseAppropsGOP @FoxNews

It is both tragic and concerning that our leaders continue to prioritize waste, corruption, propaganda, lies, and negative aspects of development over positive initiatives. Recently, it was reported that $9 million of taxpayers' money was spent on lobbyists in Washington, which I believe is just a small fraction of the global waste occurring in the same manner. This situation aligns with the disgraceful state of Nigeria. This is merely a small example of wasteful spending that has contributed to our nation’s current failing status. To further illustrate the impact of such waste, we can look at a critical measure of development: the Human Development Index (HDI). Nigeria has remained stagnant in the low HDI category for 35 years, from 1990 to 2025. In contrast, comparable nations within the same low category, such as China—where Nigeria had a three-fold higher per capita income in 1990—and Indonesia have advanced from low to medium, and now to high categories. The achievements of these nations were not the result of fate, miracles, or natural endowments, but rather a consequence of choices and the cumulative effects of good and bad leadership. This underscores the importance of prioritization. To explain further the implications of the $9 million expenditure, let’s consider the components of HDI: life expectancy (health), education, and per capita income (poverty). Nigeria is failing in all three measures. For instance, regarding health, let's examine the $9 million, which is approximately ₦14 billion spent wrongly. Nigeria now has the lowest life expectancy in the world and ranks among the top two countries globally for maternal mortality, making childbirth one of the most precarious experiences for Nigerian women. Instead of investing in life-saving systems, we spend millions trying to obscure our failures. Our key medical centers are teaching hospitals, and I will use six—one from each geopolitical zone of Nigeria—to illustrate this failure. For the 2024 capital budget for teaching hospitals, which remains operational today, the allocations are as follows: ₦2.67 billion to the University College Hospital, Ibadan (South-West), ₦2.46 billion to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria (North-West), ₦2.8 billion to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu (South-East), ₦2.43 billion to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City (South-South), ₦1.16 billion to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin (North-Central), and ₦2.37 billion to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri (North-East), totaling ₦13.9 billion for our premier medical centers. The $9 million spent on foreign lobbyists could have been used wisely to purchase essential hospital equipment for Nigerian hospitals, improving our healthcare capabilities and positively influencing our national image. This $9 million is sufficient to fund the entire 2024 capital budget for at least one major teaching hospital in each zone, directly enhancing survival rates, care, and life expectancy. The funds are available; what is lacking are prioritization, discipline, and effective leadership. This situation is unacceptable. Every naira of taxpayers' money should serve the Nigerian people. Instead, citizens are dying in failing hospitals while the government pays foreigners to pretend that everything is fine. We cannot continue to live in an illusion while our reality deteriorates. This constant prioritization of trivial matters must come to an end. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

If a CAC number can suddenly become your tax registration, why didn’t your passport number automatically become your voter registration? Funny how Nigeria suddenly knows how to integrate systems when it’s time to collect money. When it comes to tax, the systems align. When it comes to voting, they suddenly “can’t find data.

Forgery Of Tinubu's Tax Reform Law Is An Act Of Treason Against The Nigerian People. The illegal and unauthorized alterations made to Nigeria's tax legislation after passage by the National Assembly represents a brazen act of treason against the Nigerian people and a direct assault on our constitutional democracy. This draconian overreach by the executive branch undermines the foundational principle of legislative supremacy in the making of laws. It reveals a government more interested in extracting wealth from struggling citizens than empowering them to prosper. The Unconstitutional Alterations. The following substantive changes were allegedly illegally inserted into the tax bills after parliamentary approval, in clear violation of Sections 4 and 58 of the 1999 Constitution: 1. New Coercive Powers Without Legislative Consent Arrest powers granted to tax authorities Property seizure and garnishment without court orders Enforcement sales conducted without judicial oversight These provisions transform tax collectors into quasi-law enforcement agencies, stripping Nigerians of due process protections that the National Assembly deliberately included. 2. Increased Financial Burdens on Citizens Mandatory 20% security deposit before appealing tax assessments Compound interest on tax debts Quarterly reporting requirements with lowered thresholds Forced USD computation for petroleum operations These changes erect financial barriers that prevent ordinary Nigerians from challenging unjust assessments while increasing compliance costs for businesses already struggling in a difficult economy. 3. Removal of Accountability Mechanisms Deletion of quarterly and annual reporting obligations to the National Assembly Elimination of strategic planning submission requirements Removal of ministerial supervisory provisions By stripping away oversight mechanisms, the government has insulated itself from accountability while expanding its powers—a hallmark of authoritarian governance. A Government Against Its People This constitutional violation exposes a troubling reality: a government obsessed with imposing ever-increasing tax burdens on impoverished Nigerians rather than creating conditions for prosperity. Instead of investing in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment that would expand the tax base organically, this administration chooses the path of aggressive extraction from an already struggling populace. Nigeria's poverty rate remains alarmingly high, unemployment continues to devastate families, and inflation erodes purchasing power daily. Yet rather than supporting citizens to become more productive, thereby generating sustainable tax revenues, the government employs draconian measures to squeeze resources from people who have little left to survive. True economic growth comes from empowering citizens, not impoverishing them further through punitive taxation and erosion of legal protections. A thriving economy with prosperous citizens naturally generates robust tax revenues. But this requires vision, investment, and patience, qualities evidently lacking in an administration that resorts to constitutional manipulation to achieve short-term fiscal goals. I hereby call upon: 1. The Executive to immediately suspend the implementation of the tax law effective January 1, 2026 to give room for a proper investigation. 2. The National Assembly to immediately rectify these illegal alterations through proper legislative processes and hold accountable those responsible for this constitutional breach. 3. The Judiciary to strike down these unconstitutional provisions and reaffirm the sanctity of the legislative process. 4. Civil Society and all Nigerians to reject this assault on democratic principles and demand governance that serves the people rather than exploiting them.

🇳🇬 Nigerians, Please Continue to pay attention o!!! This Tax Reform mess is way bigger than it appears. Infact its no longer just about bad policy o! It's a direct ASSAULT ON OUR CONSTITUTION and the sovereignty of the National Assembly. Section 4 of the 1999 Constitution clearly vests exclusive law-making power in the National Assembly. Sections 58 and 59 spell out the process that Bills must be passed by both chambers, harmonized, and assented to EXACTLY AS PASSED. There is no room for "clerical errors," "draft issues," or secret insertions by printers, executive aides, aso Rock cabals or even the committee chairman after the fact. Yet, what do we have? Gazetted versions circulating with DRACONIAN CLAUSES that were NEVER debated or voted on the floor. This is not a typographical error. It's a breach of legislative privilege and a blatant usurpation of NASS powers. No one, not the executive, not printers, not @taiwoyedele has the right to rewrite laws post-passage under any guise whatsoever. Calling it "process issues" or "fake drafts" insults our intelligence. If they claim everything is clean, let them release the certified harmonized versions IMMEDIATELY for public comparison. Why the opacity? Why rush implementation on January 1 while NASS is probing? If they can tamper with laws once, what’s stopping them next time? Please Continue to demand that they #SuspendTaxReforms NOW! #RejectPovertyTax

🇳🇬 Nigerians! Tinubu’s government is trying to blame CLERICAL ERRORS for the glaring altered provisions in the Tax Reform Act. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, called it a “PROCESS AND SYSTEM ISSUE”, He admitted: "I think it’s a process and system issue that has to be addressed, and I don’t think it is about finger-pointing or looking for who to blame. If you think about the process today, there are a lot of stages with MANUAL HANDS-ON that anything CAN GO WRONG." Oyedele also revealed that the presence of the president, the speaker, the senate president, and himself during the signing does not mean the 400 pages were PROPERLY REVIEWED, EFFECTIVELY leaving ROOM FOR ERRORS that the public is now being asked to accept. Nigerians please continue to join the call for the IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION of the implementation of these "Poverty tax" reform act until the investigations are concluded and all DISCREPANCIES fully clarified. This is about truth, accountability, and protecting every Nigerian from a law pushed through without proper oversight. #RejectPovertyTax

Just read what you typed here and even listen to what you said on the TV. You just add more fire to the already burning building. There was a tweet of you doing rounds during the Covid era, taxing the people of the world's poorest capital nation in 2026 is evil and plain wicked. And you’re not even stopping at taxing them alone, you want to weaponize authority to go after them without giving them a fair chance to fight back.

Oga Oyedele, make we talk straight. Dem fit call you tax guru. E fit be true. E fit no be true. I no send. But politics and legislative process, you no sabi am. This one no be “committee never meet” matter. This na basic reading comprehension. We get two public documents. One, the harmonized bill wey National Assembly pass. Two, the gazetted copy wey government publish. Both na public record. Anybody wey pass WAEC English fit put dem side by side and see say dem no be the same thing. You no need committee. You no need investigation. You just need eyes and sense. So when you dey say one “viral document surface before committee meet,” na distraction. The real question be say, why the gazetted law no match the harmonized bill wey legislators vote for. House of Reps know wetin dem pass. Nigerians fit see wetin una gazette. In fact, the gazetted copy dey your own official website. Plenty people don download am. Some of us get am for hand. So who change wetin. When dem change am. And under which authority. That na governance question. No be misinformation. No be fear. No be vibes. Stop insulting people intelligence with process gymnastics. If document A no equal document B, something happen in between. Simple. No amount of TV interview go wish that fact away.
