You're not trying to pass this bill. You're trying to kill it in a way you can blame on process. Here's how we know: Reconciliation requires the Senate parliamentarian to rule that provisions are "budgetary." Citizenship verification is not budgetary. Photo ID mandates are not budgetary. The parliamentarian will gut the bill. Then you'll shrug and say "we tried." We see through you. Meanwhile, you WON'T use the tools that actually work: Rule XIX limits each senator to two speeches per legislative day. Keep the Senate in continuous session, file cloture daily, and the filibuster exhausts in ~12-20 days. You dismissed it as "complicated." Because if you tried and succeeded, you'd have to actually pass the bill. Harry Reid nuked the filibuster in 2013 when he wanted results. Mitch McConnell changed Senate rules THREE times and canceled the August recess. Chuck Schumer used reconciliation within months on a 50-50 Senate. You have 53 seats. You've changed nothing, canceled nothing, and waited eleven months. Buy liquor, many Rx meds, cold meds, take out a loan, get a job, rent an apartment, get married or divorced, enroll child or self in school? Just a partial list. All these things required documents to get ID. Help is also available.

Driver's licenses, state IDs and passports especially. Getting the required documents also cost. Not including time and distance to get records if available and then the local dmv. Not everyone has a car or access to or can even afford public transportation, not everyone lives within a reasonable distance to all the different places they'll have to go. This "simple" task, is actually monumental to those who do not have the means to do so. This Act is simply that. All an act to hide the fact its really designed to prevent millions of people from voting. If the goal line is proving you're a citizen when voting, then the track to get there for millions is littered with hurdles that they simple cannot overcome to reach that "simple" task.

@kafferf @BasedMikeLee How in the world do these poor married/divorced women legally file their taxes every year? Their tax documents require their legal name, so everything has been appropriately changed in order to do so. Can't claim a "poll tax" for something you had to do anyway.

In only 5 states can you use your driver's license to register - the 5 states that indicate citizenship. There are 45 states where you need additional proof to register and top of that there is an additional burden of proof for married women or anyone who has changed their name. Getting copies of birth certificates, marriage licenses, name change court orders that could have been lost for a multitude of reasons, will cost money = poll tax.
