@MattersInformed @UKFreeAlliance That was the most depressing thing I’ve watched this year. These people are supposed to be smart? I speak as someone whose mother was killed at 56 by a GP’s prescription and whose husband was killed at 53 by a hubristic surgeon. Lord help us.

Have I got this right? Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) deficiency can be relevant in around 200 cases per year in the UK. However, it could also negatively impact prostate cancer cases, around 59,000 cases per year in the UK. Is Folic Acid the new Statin?

@linda_nataloni @A1an_M @ClareCraigPath @hitone @Morrisons Polish flour doesn’t add folic acid. There may still be supplies on the shelf. My understanding is that it will disappear (together with French and Italian flour). It can be sold if it’s produced before 13/12/26 but not after.

Quick survey of @Morrisons bread today (what an exciting life I lead 🙄). All of their "The Best" brown loaves contain folic acid. Even their basic "Wholemeal" bread contains it. Wholemeal flour is exempt from the folic acid supplementation rules so there's no legal need for them to add it. I expect a lot of supermarkets and bread producers are just going to add it to everything because it "simplifies their supply chain", and allows "economies of scale", or something. 🙄

@loueldhen @hitone @Morrisons Buying unfortified flour in France and bringing it back will be allowed, apparently, within reason. What a crazy world. Having to smuggle flour to get around our own government's rules. 🙄

@A1an_M @hitone @Morrisons That’s my current plan. I’m nearly out of the 40kg I stocked up on before Matthews started adding it 9 months early in April. Ludicrous situation.

@hitone @A1an_M @Morrisons After December all white flour sold in the uk has to be fortified and so we will no longer be able to buy French or Italian flour unless they have fortified it. I don’t know if it will apply to part baked baguettes made in France. Perhaps France could make all our white bread?

@A1an_M @Morrisons The bread I normally buy has it now too, so I won't be buying that anymore. ...but the part-baked baguettes don't. They don't list any of the flour "fortifications". Under the ingredients it says "made with EU wheat flour". I wonder if the regulations don't apply there.

I don’t eat any products that are destined to contain folic acid. None. Ever. I oppose this for 2 main reasons: 1) it will harm many people for no benefit (if you review the science as Clare has done). 2) it’s yet more government overreach. Stop mandates!

Cathy Morgan (AFH) I exist 🌸
HORROR: So having used Wrights bread mixes for a very long time. I checked the ingredients on the packaging but couldn’t see folic acid. However, after checking with AI, this is what it said:- “Yes, Wright’s bread mixes and their standard white flours do contain added folic acid. The addition of folic acid to non-wholemeal (white) wheat flour is legally required in the UK. This applies to major brands, including Wright’s Baking, as it is a mandatory public health measure designed to prevent birth defects.” So it’s ALREADY in everything right now!

Oh wow! My folic acid research was totally distinct to my covid research (or so I thought). Folic acid increased risk of diagnoses 50% (when being on another drug did not). If you were diagnosed risk of dying was 2.6 FOLD higher!

In the past couple of weeks we've seen some worrying trends on the GB power grid with unprecedented summer margin notices and three occasions on which system operator @neso_energy was forced to ask the EU to lift intraday interconnector trading limits But more worrying is what hasn't been widely reported - on 23 June there was persistent low frequency through the evening which NESO eventually solved by curtailing exports Not by buying the capacity back, but by requesting "Emergency Assistance" - these aren't really requests - although the other TSO can reject the request it can't stop NESO from turning the flow off at the exit substation Why is this worrying? 1. NESO didn't issue any warnings to the market that GB margins were tight yet it was unable to keep frequency within the safe operating limit - why not? 2. By cutting off exports to the Netherlands and France, in the absence of any system warnings, NESO has just made cutting off exports part of the normal operational toolkit. As we rely on imports in winter we might regret this move as the other countries will feel far more able to reduce their exports to us after this move 3. Did the absence of any warnings issued by NESO mean it didn't see the tight margins coming ie was it due to forecasting errors? 4. Was the system actually secure during this period? Was NESO compliant with the SQSS (requirement to at all times hold enough reserve to cover the loss of the single largest infeed - I doubt it since at times during the say the demand forecast error was higher than the required reserve holding)? Were any transmission constraints violated? The fact there has been no discussion of this by NESO is also worrying. NESO seems to think if it keeps quiet about its challenges nobody will notice But the demand forecasting errors are growing, as the system becomes more complex. The maximum error so far this year is almost 4x the SQSS!! And that's the average over half an hour - the instantaneous error is likely far higher. And of course NESO balances the grid from instant to instant, not over half hours So can NESO actually PROVE it can run the grid securely? Everyone assumes it can because we haven't had a blackout. But the absence of a disaster is not the same as safety - running into traffic isn't safe just because you're not run over every time you do it @ofgem @energygovuk @ClaireCoutinho @AndrewBowie_MP @NJ_Timothy @griffitha @cmackinlay @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @TiceRichard @Iromg @AllisonPearson @EdConwaySky @afneil @MerrynSW @mattotele @jonathan_leake watt-logic.com/2026/07/02/nes…

Remember Johnny Ball, he made kids programs back in the 80s & 90s about science & the environment..... UNTIL he called out the climate bollox & claimed that schools were brainwashing kids with rubbish. He then got cancelled for some reason. Here's an old clip where he talks about CO2

The legislation to mandate folic acid in all non-wholemeal flour (and therefore de facto, introducing it to almost all processed foods containing flour) was introduced in Parliament via a "statutory instrument". There is an increasing trend for government to do this, rather than use primary legislation, and it means there is less scope for debate and scrutiny, allowing bad, and unwanted, law to end up on the statute books. This needs to stop. It's just another example of how broken our "democracy" is. Government might say "but this is just a detailed technical measure, uncontroversial, no need for a full debate or Act of Parliament ". Wrong wrong wrong! This is mass medication of the public, without informed consent, when there are known and acknowledged dangers to health.
