@garonnevik Our rural county humane society literally has a "barn cat" program for strays that would otherwise be difficult to find homes for.

I’m probably opening up a can of worms here, but to those saying I need to spay my cats, consider a few things. We are a grain farm. Grain farms attract rodents. Hundreds of them. Big ones. We can use cats, or we can use more chemicals to handle them. Your choice. Humane societies refuse to give cats to farms. They claim cats are not for work, they are for domestic use only. I have tried. So we have to breed our own, and farmers have a whole network to manage this. We take excellent care of our cats. They are handled and loved. But we are not the city. We are not a neighborhood. We are a rural farm trying to keep our chemical and disease levels low.

This is why we tell folks to NEVER seek shelter inside a vehicle. This car near Effingham, Illinois was thrown into a fields, rolled and impaled. As a last resort, seek shelter inside a ditch and cover your head — but never stay inside the car.

I just had my last lesson w an 8yo autistic boy named Julian and I unfortunately did cry when saying goodbye bc the parents told me his last teacher had said she didn’t think he’d ever be able to read music. She was wrong. He is amazing.

At age 11, Elon saw his first real computer in a Johannesburg mall and just stood there staring. He had only read about them in magazines before. His dad hated computers (“just for games”), so Elon saved up from odd jobs and bought a Commodore VIC-20. He finished the 60-hour BASIC programming course in 3 days, barely sleeping. At 13, he created his own video game called Blastar (destroy an alien space freighter with hydrogen bombs) and sold it to a magazine for $500. He then sold two more games: one similar to Donkey Kong, and another simulating roulette and blackjack. This kid was built different from the start. 🚀 Source: Walter Isaacson's 'Elon Musk' (2023), chapter 4

@TheFP @AbigailShrier This reminds me of my SIL complaining that her grandpa would starve to death sitting at a table covered in food, if there wasn’t woman there to serve it onto his plate for him. 😂

“He sits at the table waiting to be served,” writes a disgruntled dad of three. “When he finishes, he leaves the plate there for someone else to clear.” Our advice columnist @AbigailShrier weighs in: “Eli, ask yourself why it bothers you so much that an old man ‘contributes nothing’ when he visits your home.” “Your problem is not your father-in-law. It’s your exhaustion,” Shrier writes. “You don’t feel sufficiently taken care of.” Read the full column here: bit.ly/3QsWcuw

@jk_rowling Honestly, if man doesn’t feel enough like a man, why don’t they give him same-sex hormones first? Maybe his testosterone is just low.

Cross sex hormones are not HRT. The clue is in the name. Hormone replacement treatment replaces small amounts of naturally occurring hormones that have diminished with age. Cross sex hormones don’t replace anything. They are intended to disrupt the body’s hormonal balance.

The TSA could be moving security checks away from the airport. A new pilot program at Boston's Logan International is trying to get rid of long lines by giving passengers the option to check in and go through security at an off-site location. @Grady_Trimble examines the trial in an exclusive look for Fox Business.

@lynniefishy @theBrianaMills On appeal or on first application? If a disabled person does a great job of self advocacy, can that backfire? It does in the typical MD's office for people with ME/CFS or Long COVID.

People vehemently believe that there are safety nets in place if you become disabled. That no matter what, you have all your needs met. If you believe this, you’re in for a rude awakening if you ever become disabled.

Wow reading all the replies genuinely has me surprised at how serious people take birthdays. My family has always been way more relaxed. A call at the end of the day is definitely on par. Growing up I got like a gas gift card for $10 on my birthday. I will say I am trying to change that for my kids now and make a bigger deal but I kind of like that no one gets stressed out

My mom cried on her birthday because I waited until 5:30 PM to call her. Yeah, you read that right. I'm 30, she's 74. I finished work, picked up the phone, and wished her a happy birthday. To me, that's a normal evening call. But she was so upset I hadn't called or texted earlier that day, she actually started crying on the phone. Now I feel like the absolute worst person for making her emotional on her special day, but I'm also really taken aback by the whole thing. Was I in the wrong?

@debugtweets @theBrianaMills I got approved very quickly since I didn’t use a lawyer. They get paid more the longer it takes, because they take a percentage of the back pay you get once approved.

@theBrianaMills Most SSDI claims that are eventually granted are denied initially. A disability law firm told me recently that an appeal takes 3.5 years now. If one can survive homeless for 3.5 years, one may get Disability.

I got it right away, but the key was not going through a lawyer. A wonderful woman at the Social Security office warned me that my lawyer was still not providing them with documentation I’d sent him ages ago, and explained that she sees this all the time. They drag out the process because they get paid a percentage of your back pay once it’s done. I fired the lawyer, applied for it myself, and was accepted within a couple weeks.

@theBrianaMills If you become disabled in the US, you'll probably die a slow painful death without proper food, medicine or housing, unless you have 4 years of expenses saved for emergencies. It took 4 years to get my disability approved.
