UMD undergraduates have implemented the same system used by MDE on campus via the Campus Forest Carbon Project (CFCP), and the @SustainableUMD Council added insights gleaned by the CFCP to the “Carbon Neutrality” section of its ProgressHub in early October.

A new report by @MDEnvironment mentions how the state is the first in the nation to use a remote-sensing based system—led by @UofMaryland @umdgeography Professor @georgehurtt—for measuring how much carbon is stored in forests.

Marie Panday, graduating with a minor in Remote Sensing, was involved in the Campus Forest Carbon Project and worked with the Office of Sustainability. After earning her Master’s in Geographical Sciences, she will pursue a PhD to one day be a professor. Congratulations, Marie!
