HBO's Carnivàle creator and Blacklist EP and writer Daniel Knauf on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy: "They really have no idea why people watch Star Trek. If they did, this show never would have progressed past the pitch phase." Why was this show greenlit?

@rainylavndr I don't think he's a great writer, but he's definitely correct that a political agenda destroys fiction.

that disappointing moment when you find out the author of one of your favorite books uses generative ai, is against real world commentary/politics in fiction, and deeply misunderstands star trek

@IMAO_ I'm not aware of any negative connotations of calling Indians Indians.

Line from Red Letter Media talking about Star Trek Voyager that had me laugh out loud: "So what do you think about Chakotay being Native American... or, as he's called in the 24th century, Indian?" I forgot it wasn't _that_ long ago, there were zero negative connotations to calling a Native American an Indian.

That wouldn’t be falling, that’s flying. 👍😎

@flatsmackin And yet an arrow will go further but still end out hitting the ground, and a bullet more so. So if it were possible to travel fast enough you would fall with out ever hitting the ground….

So I should sit upright, be uncomfortable, and unable to sleep for an 8 hour flight in a seat that I paid extra for while he reclines freely behind me and enjoys the flight all because I prepared adequately and he didn’t? No thanks. I didn’t come from the “everyone gets a trophy” generation.

I don’t get why some people on airplanes think the rules don’t apply to them. I once had a guy behind me ask me if I didn’t mind could I not recline my seat on an 8 hr flight to London because he was tall and my seat hit his knees. No thanks, pal. That’s why I paid for the exit row because I’m tall as well and I’m not sitting upright for 8 hrs because you didn’t think ahead.

@metaenforcer Well, if I’m kicking your ass, you’re not “letting me” do anything. I’m just doing it. There is nothing you can do to stop me—except, perhaps, saying you’re “letting me do it”.

@misshapenident1 @MegEBrock You don’t need to be home with your kids 24/7 that’s actually a new concept most other countries mothers aren’t home with their kids all the time. Even the old days of America that wasn’t the case. Even if you are at daycare you are still being raised by parents that’s stupid.

I’m so tired of seeing this type of dumb messaging. And what’s the end goal? Instead of teaching our daughters to develop their gifts and be equipped to provide for themselves, should we instead be training them to be Stepford wives?
Claire Lehmann@clairlemon

Children in the West grow up seeing their own working mothers tired, worn out, & burdened by the second shift. From the outside careerism often looks glamorous--but children get to see it from the inside x.com/BradWilcoxIFS/…

@Joshuad4045 @MegEBrock If you're at work, you're not at home with your kids. It's much better for kids to be raised by their mothers than by a daycare.

@misshapenident1 @MegEBrock You can still be a wife and mother while working. What wife roles can’t be done if you work? Nothing wrong with being a husband and father. In fact it’s the most important role a man can have.

@memeticsisyphus Posts like this age yourself. Dude more than 75% of people under 40 believe we were lied to about the moon landing. My guess is, you saw it live on tv, so it’s got to be true. Do you not know what Wernher Von Braun claimed or no? What math? The math of lifting matter off earth?

If you show them pictures they’ll say they’ve been doctored, if you show them video they’ll call it AI, if you show them expert testimony they’ll cry conspiracy, if you show them math they won’t understand it. They’re not skeptics, they’re believers in a falsehood that can’t be dislodged.
Michael Shermer@michaelshermer

Dear No Moonies: If we never landed on the moon what is your explanation for these images taken by the Chandrayaan-2 probe from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), when it mapped the lunar surface in detail in 2021?

@jpl_black @JeffreyLuscombe Or at the every least, someone could provide evidence it would get enough use to justify the cost. Also, this is more like a trillion dollar project in a blue state.

@JeffreyLuscombe Assuming this is a serious question... I'm not sure anyone hates high speed rail, as such. The issue is the $90 billion price tag. Conservatives tend to believe that if there was a sound business case for a high speed rail line, private enterprises would build it.
