@mondaymicrofic #MondayMicroFic Reminder last week’s episode: Chapter 4: Shapeshifter Chapter Shapeshifter By noon, Cookie the baby dragon had discovered puddles. He was admiring his moon-white reflection when the reflection blinked differently. Cookie blinked back. From the ferny shadows beside the puddle, a second baby dragon blinked too. It was smaller, greener, and wearing a guilty expression. Cookie squeaked with joy. The second dragon squeaked with alarm, shimmered, and became a rabbit. Cookie sneezed. The rabbit became a teacup. The teacup sprouted whiskers. “Luma,” called Elder Thistle, “why is the china breathing?” But Cookie had already bounded after it, wings flapping, tail wagging, leaving little blue sparks in the moss. The teacup rolled under a toadstool and came out as a fox kit. Then a mushroom. Then a tiny fairy with moss in its hair and enormous frightened eyes. Cookie skidded to a halt. The baby shapeshifter clasped both hands over its mouth. Cookie, trying to be friendly, hiccuped a puff of orange fire. It warmed the shapeshifter’s toes and turned every fern nearby into fiddles. The fiddles began to play. The shapeshifter laughed. Cookie roared, which sounded like a kettle singing. By the time Luma arrived, half the woods were dancing. And Elder Thistle’s hat had slid over her eyes. NEW EPISODE! Chapter 5: Escape The fiddles stopped. Elder Thistle’s hat came back up. Everyone froze. Cookie froze too, which was unfortunate, because Cookie’s version of freezing involved one last hiccup. A small orange flame curled into the air and lit the tip of Elder Thistle’s hat like a birthday candle. “Run,” whispered Luma. Cookie ran. The shapeshifter ran. Luma ran. Three squirrels who hadn’t even been involved ran, because running seemed like the right idea. Cookie glanced back. Elder Thistle was patting her hat out with tremendous dignity and pretending she had meant for it to happen. Luma seized Cookie’s paw and the shapeshifter’s hand and yanked them both behind the Remembering Tree, which was old enough and wide enough to hide considerably worse behavior than this. They pressed flat against the bark. Cookie’s tail thumped. Once. Twice. “Shh,” said Luma. Cookie’s tail thumped again, apologetically. Around the other side of the tree, Elder Thistle’s footsteps paused. A long silence. Then her footsteps continued on, slow and deliberate, the way footsteps do when they are absolutely certain you are hiding behind that tree and have decided, generously, not to notice. The shapeshifter exhaled and became a mouse. Cookie licked it.

Microfiction Monday! @mondaymicrofic Themes: Frequency, Sucker, Escape (yep, all three) Agent Nos is inspired by Perfect Dark. This story happens in The War Against Sin just prior to Alex's meeting with her. Also, she has a portable glider that's similar to the Green Goblin's.

“Frequencies Under the Moon” Screeeeeeee— A never ending ringing in my ears. That’s the worst part of every full moon. Once you transform, you can hear frequencies only perceptible to an animal. And no, I don’t mean a dog. When the moon rises and I sprout wings from my arms, transforming me into a ridiculous looking man-sized bat, I hear all the screeching noises I was never meant to discern. Imagine you're a teenager and someone turns on one of those Mosquito contraptions; that’s me every month. And no, you never get used to it. So here I flap around in these awful oversized wings with frequencies not unlike tinnitus bouncing around my brain all night until I finally shed the wings, fur, and fangs and go back to being an accountant. It ain’t easy being a werebat. When I finally get this fixed I am not gonna miss all those screaming bird wannabes and their “echolocation”. Heck, I actually feel sorry for them. #microfiction #WritingCommunity

Heisenberg's Feline Case oXo - Don’t be a Sucker I knew this day would come eventually. I had collapsed in a trash-choked alley. Chasing one of Murphey’s stooges. Wheezing like a busted Buick. Doc said I had to quit the stogies. Terrible timing. Between the Chief busting my balls at the station house, Samantha jerking my chain at home, and that damn cat making it all blur together like an Alpha house frat party… I needed something to chew on that wouldn’t put me in the cooler. A panacea–a potion–something. Like Popeye’s spinach but easier to lug. I wandered the Five and Dime like Aunt Martha after a bender, browsing for the thing that would make it all make sense. Perfectly put-together stay-at-home moms skirted my path like I was the plague. Maybe I am…but they don’t have to be obnoxious about it. They only think their life is copacetic. At least I know better. Even if I don’t have the answers either. Halfway out the door, a little blue-haired old lady stopped me. Gandhi’s grandma in a cloche hat. It could have been the shakes getting to me or maybe just her motherly instincts. Either way, she seemed to just know. Her cinnamon-stained fingers unwrapped a penny candy on a wax-paper stick and gently shoved it between my teeth. A four-legged force of nature lurking behind her eyes wouldn’t let me refuse. My eyes closed and I was home. The tang of sour apple didn’t fool me into thinking everything would be alright. Everything was alright. #microfictionMonday

@mondaymicrofic “How did you escape?” Arshok chuckled. “The guards were a couple of dim bulbs so I just did a quick broadcast on the sucker frequency,” he made a quick gesture with two fingers, “and just walked out.” “Sucker fre… you mean a Jedi mind trick?” Arshok smirked. “Yeah, that.”

Today’s #MicrofictionMonday tale. @mondaymicrofic “Solare Duck” Solare the duck piloted his starfighter into the heart of the baboon armada. In moments, he would be in range of their laser cannons. He had one chance to attack their weakness. (1/7)

Microfiction Monday! @mondaymicrofic Theme: Say my name I'll be honest, I did want to do the shapeshifter. This one turned out fun though. Rygar only shows up in The War Against Sin right now, but I do plan on giving him a story one day.
