INSANE! CVS pharmacy employee shares behind the scenes look at how a drug that costs less than $4 to fill ends up costing an insured patient $97! 😮 Why are insured patients paying 24 times more? What a scam!

These are fantastic points!!! @DutchRojas, @CassandraTesla is one hell of an advocate and mom. She was working in healthcare and very confused when her daughter Kara was diagnosed with MS but was denied access ( by the PBM/insurer) to the medication prescribed by her daughter’s world class neurologist. After fighting for nine months during which Kara’s health declined, she got a final denial. Then Kara got pregnant and she’s due for delivery next month. But of course she is less healthy because some suit made the decision to deny. Cassandra made the trip to Washington DC on December 11 and stood next to me as I told her story and asked for the Pharmacist fight back act to pass. @RepBuddyCarter called it the most muscular of the PBM reforms. That’s Cassandra next to me with a photo f beautiful Kara. @RepAuchincloss and @JamesComer are behind me as are some kick-butt independent pharmacy advocates.

I’m glad to see you going into the 1992 Era. And keep in mind 1987 Nancy Pelosi started in politics. 1992 Congress made FDA PDUFAs happen We do need to look at the FDA for the root cause and the Fudicuary Responsibility for our healthcare crisis today when The 1992 Prescription Drug User Fee Act(PDUFA) was started. Being that it is aimed to speed drug approvals by having drug companies pay fees, but problems emerged, including potential safety issues from faster reviews (leading to more black-box warnings/withdrawals), increased industry influence on FDA policy due to budget dependence, and underfunding of post-market safety surveillance, creating a focus on pre-market speed over long-term safety, despite PDUFA being vital for FDA's budget.  Now the FDA is financially dependent on industry user fees (over 50% of drug budget), giving companies leverage in negotiations and potentially biasing decisions away from unfavorable policies. I learned this while searching for the answers to MS DMT access for my daughter with a new MS diagnosis and not able to get access to her Treatment. We have a sickne$$ in the FDA with big pharmaceutical created by lawmakers who profited off of all of us right in-front of our eyes

Respectfully, congressman, there is nothing fiscally responsible for hardworking Americans in extending subsidies that flow directly to insurers. In addition, the 3 year extension sets up another fight with a likely shutdown in 2028, just in time for presidential elections. That is NOT turning down the temperature. Instead the off ramp offered in the bill that passed yesterday by allowing Americans to band together in an association for the simple reason that they are paying more and getting less and they are sick of doing so, gives them an off ramp from expensive plans. In addition there are favorable PBM reforms in the bill. 🇺🇸 still needs more. In addition to passing the BIPARTISAN Pharmacists Fight Back Act ( info in comments), the two paragraphs below describe what @Free2CareHC and many other physician and patient groups would like to see. Most especially RADICAL transparency. Grateful to @IndyBucksCo for publishing the piece I wrote that kicked off a healthcare cost series. I will keep writing and exposing because an informed electorate, armed with the ability to build a true free market landscape is the best defense against our predatory healthcare system. And I’m happy to meet or discuss with you at any time . Merry Christmas and Happy birthday a day late. @DutchRojas

Powerful words from @RepJamesComer who is coleading the Pharmacists Fight Back Act. Thank you Chairman Comer for fighting to end unfair PBM practices. Independent pharmacies and their patients are ready to fight with you! #HR 6609 & 6610.

🚨Congress is putting Pharmacy Benefit Managers on notice: their era of taking advantage of Americans is ending. Predatory tactics by PBMs have caused drug prices to soar & our pharmacies to suffer. I introduced bipartisan legislation today to rein in PBMs & protect patients.

Greg, it was a great honor and pleasure to be invited to come speak. You have done a lot of heavy lifting here and you always step back and let others take the credit. It’s like Ronald Reagan once said it’s amazing how much work you can get done when you don’t need any credit. That’s what’s amazing about someone like you that I view as a true leader, you simply reflect and lift everyone else. Hugs and merry Christmas. PS : I’d love to mail you a scarf, If @A_Ciaccia hasn’t already sent one

@mass_marion is fearless in advocating for her patients. She delivered powerful comments on the need for PBM reform at last week's reintroduction of the Pharmacists Fight Back Act and followed it up with this equally hard hitting piece. Thank you Dr Mass! #HR 6609 & 6610
