Walkability is good, but the people caught up in the walkability fad who change their identity to be "urbanists" take walkability to absurd extremes, especially by rejecting driving. Just because you can walk or take transit doesn't mean you let that define your boundaries.

@AFineBlogger @CB8M share.google/aimode/4tDSLmf… "Speed Thresholds: Bicycle helmets are typically certified to protect against impacts at roughly 14 - 15 mph. While they still offer life-saving protection in 30 mph accidents, the force can easily exceed the helmet's structural limits."

On the personal attack on me by Streetsblog regarding my 2 minute public comment on @CB8M the other night. Quote ("get a grip, wear a helmet") was falsely framed as victim blaming, and out of context. Here is what I said: 1- Everyone speaking at a CB8 Meeting should identify if the live in the CB, if they are a member of an "advocacy" or special interest group, and if they are a paid employee of that group. 2- The Green Wave on Third Avenue is a RED WAVE- nothing but brake lights. It slows every mode of 4 wheeled transportation to a crawl, including buses, and by DOT-presented stats has INCREASED accidents by 50%. 3- Wearing a Bike Helmet is the single most effective way to reduce head injuries, TMIs and death. By 50-75%. For the 2% that commute by bike, NYC should not be forced to "reimagine" every road in the City because people don't want to wear a helmet. @TransAlt opposes mandating this basic safety measure. I'm speaking for myself. @nyc_evsa is not "pro-car", we are pro-safety. Amazing that the app-fueled "bike lobby" sees me pointing this out as some sort of existential threat should tell you everything about their agenda- it's adoption over safety, at all costs, including life and limb, for the bikers and the pedestrians. @NYCMayor @JimWalden_esq @enforcelawsNYC @bradhoylman @JulieMenin @vmmaloney @frankmorano @VickieforNYC @ShaunAbreu @rosannascotto @nytimes @nypost @dylanypyen @susanleenyc @OneCityRisingNY @AllieRyanNYC @BasicallySusan @BPolatseck @Megmd514

@AFineBlogger @EricsRambles @CB8M I agree that you should caveat all your NIMBY statements by saying that you're a professional broker by trade and benefit by making the neighborhood less affordable. This would help put your commentary in context.

@EricsRambles @CB8M I feel it is ok to testify, but you must identify your home CB Zone, and any affiliation with a 501c-3 or 501c-4, or company, and whether they are paying you to be there. That's an overarching statement, not just specific to that Board Meeting.

This is an official government account in a democracy. This is what Orbanism looks like. The president bragging, via AI video, that he forced a comedian who mocked him off the air and ‘into the trash’.

Thursday April 16th was the busiest day for Citi Bike in April with 182,722 total trips. Manhattan community district 5 alone totaled 31,948 inbound/outbound trips.

Unbelievable. An entire generation grew up with comedians doing the job journalists became too scared, too corporate, or too obedient to do. And now one of the last real ones walks off stage thanking the people behind the curtain instead of worshipping himself. That’s why people loved Colbert. Not because he “read the news.” Because he made people feel less insane while the country lost its mind.
CALL TO ACTIVISM@CalltoActivism

Wow. In one of the most emotional moments in television history, Stephen Colbert signs off his show’s last opening monologue by sharing that he realized his job was to “feel the news” with us. What a class act and an extraordinary person. Thank you Stephen.

this was so sweet. Stephen Colbert just ended his final episode of The Late Show while singing "Hello, Goodbye" with Paul McCartney. his family and the show's crew then joined them on stage before Paul turned off the lights to the Ed Sullivan Theater

Every week, nearly 500,000 cars violate street cleaning regulations, preventing us from sweeping more than 3000 miles of streets. YOUR street suffers when SOMEONE ELSE breaks the rules. We HATE that! We want to keep New York City clean, and you do too - right? Yesterday, the New York City Council voted YES on new state legislation to help us do our jobs. Now we need Albany to act!

@EarRelevant @criticalurban I think it pretty much sums everything up where one group would rather go 190 miles in the same time it takes us to go 290 miles (and cross the sea) while being free to work or socialize versus being alone in the box because the box is "freedom."

Austin to Dallas is approximately 3 hours 10 minutes. The Eurostar from Paris to London is approximately 2 hours 35 minutes. That's only a 35 minute difference, so I would much rather drive -- more personal freedom in time of departure and arrival, and the ability to take a side trip or stop to see something on the way. By the way, the drive from Paris to London is about 7 hours 40 minutes including tolls to pay.

All of Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and part of England across the channel fit into Texas. Jets are about 3 times as fast as high speed trains. There's a reason we primarily rely on air travel in the US.

@Emcarthurnyc @MavishTelap Bike lanes are good for street drainage because there's no parked cars obstructing flow to the drains. I believe you're requesting more bike lanes, faster.

Parts of Queens were flooded last night, and we prioritize bike lanes. It's 600k per mile for a bike lane and they pop up quick

Every time I drive into the city, I get angry.. not because of the 18 dollar bridge toll, or the traffic... but because this was once the greatest city on the planet.. now its a shithole. #NYC

the fact that people are more invested in defending their cars than demanding better MTA coverage in the outer boroughs really shows how many Americans see themselves as temporarily embarrassed landlords. Suburban Mind Virus is a helluva drug.
✨dreamthem✨@gatx_negrx

Im very invested in being an anti-car New Yorker because of our local politics. The way some people LOST their shit with congestion pricing is part of a matrix of decision making. On a local level, discourses matter so much, and I will never cede ground to a car-centric NY

@AFineBlogger @MTA @NYC_DOT How sad it must be to live in the zero sum mind of a NYC Republican who thinks every bike lane and every park comes at their personal expense.
