@RndmStreetMedic There's basically nowhere in NYC where these are legal to ride. Personally, I hate when jerks buy obviously non-street-legal vehicles and they ride them (loudly) on the street.

This is just another reminder that NYPD is a state sponsored street gang. All the video does is flaunt them engaging in theft and property destruction. "We stole your ATV and destroyed it. What are you gonna do about it? Nothing. Fuck off."
NYPD NEWS@NYPDnews

The NYPD is crushing it when it comes to taking illegal mopeds and scooters off our streets. So far this year, the NYPD has seized over 5,700 of these dangerous, illegal vehicles — and we are not letting up.

Just found this official decree from the Washington Governor’s Office… They’ve officially banned aimless driving. No more cruising. No more joyrides. No more “I’m just clearing my head, officer.” You must have a lawful destination at all times or face a $1,000 fine. Welcome to the People’s Republic of Washington, where even your Sunday drive needs prior approval. Governor Ferguson has solved traffic congestion by making driving illegal unless you’re going somewhere productive. Next up: banning “aimless walking,” “purposeless staring out the window,” and breathing without a five-year plan. Washingtonians, start practicing your excuse scripts now: “Yes officer, I am driving to acquire oat milk for my emotional support latte.” This is peak 2026 energy. Government: “We care about your safety!” Also government: “But first, show me your destination on this here form, citizen.” The only thing aimless now is common sense. Hopefully you got a chuckle. Now days I wouldn’t put anything past them. #AimlessDrivingBanned #WashingtonWay #BigGovernmentEnergy #JustLetPeopleDrive

@CartoonsHateHer Fun stats fact! There's a sample size where you can jump from "painfully accounting for a small sample" to "use this simpler math because you have a large sample". And it's like, 10. That's all it takes to be a "large" sample. (PSA: the real killer is biased samples)

Sometimes I worry my sex surveys don't have enough people because it's "only" 4,000 people who saw the link on Twitter but then I look at professional studies that are cited everywhere and the sample size is like 29 German college students in 2004.

@davidpattersonx When you're poor, you can become a soldier. Middle class people join as officers The very wealthy get the president to invade a country for them. So why wouldn't the very wealthy have to pay more? They get more!

If taxes were fair: You earn $100,000 per year and pay $30,000 in tax. Your neighbor earns $1,000,000 and pays $300,000 in tax. Your neighbor is paying 10X more than you. If taxes were fair, you should both pay $30,000, since you both receive the same government services.

@PatrickHeizer The factual part of the statement (that all 50 states have property tax reduction for disabled veterans) is wrong. WA only has help for old poor spouses of dead veterans and help for people who are disabled (or old). Disabled people only get deferral.

One thing I've yet to hear mentioned w/r/t veteran disability, is not only are these fraudsters getting monthly checks from the government, but they also get reduced property taxes. So not only are they getting checks from the feds, but they're not contributing locally either.

Signed vs unsigned for integers is a funny one in the line of "make illegal states unrepresentable". In theory you never need to [index] negatively or allocate negative sizes. But as soon as you have +1/-1 offsets, with or without cyclical wrapping, unsigned leads to footguns, whereas signed does not. And with 64-bit integers, losing half the size space isn't actually an issue like it was with 32. #some-notes-on-the-changes-in-c3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">c3-lang.org/blog/unsigned-…

This ad by sound transit, paid for using the exorbitant car tab fees taken every car owner, every year , mocking those same car owners for stupidly wanting to drive their car seems like the most perfect metaphor for the mindset of WA state government. Clueless Condescending Careless with our money Incompetent Over-budget Behind schedule But somehow we are the problem
Ari Hoffman@thehoffather

🧵EXCLUSIVE: Sound Transit, which is massively over budget & perpetually behind schedule, is rolling out a series of ads on May 7 calling Washingtonians "Mindless" zombies for driving The agency is so badly run that it is $20-30 billion over budget despite gouging taxpayers

The State Supreme Court rejected our petition for a referendum on the income tax based on previous precedent. Precedent should be the very reason they rule Ferguson's income tax unconstitutional in their hearing at the end of the year. letsgowashington.com/lgw-statement-…

@KYRRadio I don't see how that's not just wrong. Our B&O tax, for example, has a bottom limit: if you company has less than a certain amount of revenue, we just don't tax it. The income tax does something similar.

It's against the law, Robert. We, as a state, have voted on this issue 11 times. We've overwhelmingly shot it down each time. Our constitution prohibits an income tax that is selectively applied. Whether you like the tax or not is immaterial. It's illegal
Robert Cruickshank@cruickshank

This crashout over WA adopting an income tax, which nearly every other state in the union has, is comical to watch. I get the arguments against CA’s “billionaire” wealth tax, that’s a fundamentally different policy approach than a simple income tax targeting the rich.

@kirbywinfield Or, in the alternative: this decision is strictly about whether this bill is subject to a referendum. The constitutionality of the law is reserved for a very different trial.

not sure folks really understand what this means. it means the door is now open to wealth and property seizure via any unconstitutional tax scheme the washington legislature chooses to enact. there is zero recourse, because as the court has shown here, it will rubber stamp each new tax, reject all arguments and lawsuits against it, and prevent the people from exercising their right to vote it down. game over.
Viet Q Nguyen@VietQNguyen

Unbelievable. Washington State Supreme Court has stripped the people of Washington State their people's veto by referendum. We now understand this a kangaroo court. The argument that the state income tax was an emergency doesn't hold any water. @AGOWA argued this was required because it was a revenue bill. But for 20 years, Washington lawmakers almost never used the referendum-blocking clause on tax bills. Then, in 2025, every single emergency-clause tax bill used it — and the practice carried into 2026. This is a sham. thereflector.com/stories/washin…

@stevemgordon67 Damn good question. We can all agree that it's weird that any court would call an income tax a property tax. And our state constitution says nothing about income taxes.

Important to note this particular line from the decision: Stephens notes the order is “consistent with the words of the constitution and our unbroken line of precedent.” Will that logic be applied to an income tax that has been rule unconstitutional as well?

@VietQNguyen @AGOWA I'm reading the referenced case now. At first glance, no, you can't slap it on any law. For example (and AFAICT), a law to change the length of prison sentences would be subject to referendum. State ex rel. Blakeslee v. Clausen – CourtListener.com
