A solemn honour to officially open @IFRC's #ProtectHumanity exhibition at the UN Palais in Geneva alongside my friend @MPopowskiEU. As attacks on humanitarian workers rise, we must take action: - Stop the violence / killings - Ensure accountability - Protect local and international staff equally - Invest in their safety States must call out violations of humanitarian norms by their friends as well as condemning their foes. Humanitarians save lives. It's intolerable that they increasingly risk their own to do so. They must come home to their families. Our #RedFamilyFund, established with support from @eu_echo in 2024, goes a little way to support families of those killed. But I wish it were not needed. Let's work for that world.

The scale of the Iranian Red Crescent @Iranian_RCS response reflects deep-rooted local capacity and preparedness.   To date, 882 operational teams have been mobilized to deliver critical services across various regions. These include Search and Rescue teams, sniffer dog units, assessment teams, and debris removal specialists.   From the affected populations: - 136 individuals have been transported to medical centers. - 72 patients have received outpatient medical care. - 832 people displaced by the attacks have been accommodated in temporary emergency shelters.   Grateful to Iranian Red Crescent teams for their life-saving humanitarian efforts despite the challenging circumstances.

The IFRC is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of another volunteer of Palestine Red Crescent @PalestineRCS. Ameer Sobhi Abu Aysha, a member of the @PalestineRCS emergency operations room in Gaza was killed while on duty, working at Al-Amal Hospital in Khan Yunis. We reiterate our call for protection of humanitarian workers, civilians and medical facilities. Humanity must come first.

Ten months into the conflict, Sudan continues to grapple with a dire humanitarian crisis with severe shortages of essential resources such as food, water, and medicines. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the displacement of over 7 million people within Sudan and neighboring countries. The IFRC launched two appeals to provide support for this crisis. Currently, these appeals are largely underfunded. Our collective imperative is clear: to address this unfolding crisis by mobilizing the necessary funding and support.
