Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were green card holders living lavishly in the United States. Afshar is the niece of deceased Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. She is also an outspoken supporter of the Iranian regime who celebrated attacks on Americans and referred to our country as the "Great Satan." This week, I terminated both Afshar and her daughter's legal status and they are now in ICE custody, pending removal from the United States. The Trump Administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals who support anti-American terrorist regimes.

Hey Matt, I know the airport experience is far from perfect, and Democrats just made it worse by not funding TSA, triggering crazy long security lines. But over at @USDOT, we’re currently working our hearts out to give the country a brand new air traffic control system that will improve safety and on-time departures/arrivals with new radars, electronic flight strips, digital radios, and a fiber optic telecommunications network to replace the dated copper wire system we presently use. And that's just the work being done right now! In a few weeks I’m inviting the media over to DOT HQ to meet my team of experts and show you all we are doing to overhaul America’s ATC & usher in a golden age of travel. I think you will be impressed, and I’m personally inviting you to join us. Hope you can join us, Matt.
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

Flight delayed on tarmac. Missed our connection. Based on the other flights available, which were also delayed, and the fact that taking a flight tomorrow would require getting back into a security line stretching seemingly for miles, we decided to get a car and drive five hours to our destination. That’s how bad air travel is right now. Driving is faster. Air travel is awful in this country. People don’t realize just how much it sucks unless they have to do it a lot. It’s not just TSA. Flight delays. Air traffic control issues. Service is even worse than usual. Every airport is crowded and slow and worn down and dirty. Everyone brings their dogs. The term “service animal” doesn’t mean anything anymore. Air travel used to be luxurious. People used to wear suits. Working for an airline was prestigious. The employees took it seriously. It sucks now. It’s terrible. This is the kind of thing our leaders should be fixing. Because the most frustrating thing is that it is so eminently fixable. If only anyone bothered to try.

Iran’s terror regime must be crushed and denied the ability to threaten America, our troops, and our allies. That said, Congress must receive regular briefings on the mission, timeline, costs, and long-term strategy. And Jersey has no appetite for sending ground troops or getting stuck in another endless war.

@zorluhanzorlu @DanielBShapiro "slow to reverse course"? Is this a joke? There is a reason T.A.C.O Trades are a thing. Trump is very fast to reverse course as he is steered by emotion, and not logic.

You are basically warning about sunk cost fallacy , which is extremely logical imho, but I don't see it happening for three reasons. 1- Trump tends to make decisions quickly, but once he makes them, he is slow to reverse course. He has repeatedly mentioned this approach in his books. 2- His cabinet, advisers, and many of the influencers around him -- especially his secretary of defense -- are widely & strongly pro-Israel. Pete Hegseth in 2018: "Because 1917 was a miracle, 1948 was a miracle, 1967 was a miracle, and 2017, the declaration of Jerusalem as the capital, was a miracle. And there is no reason why the miracle of the reestablishment of the Temple on the Temple Mount is not possible. I do not know how it would happen, you do not know how it would happen, but I know that it could happen. That is all I know." 3- America does not leave when victory is unclear. It renames the war, lowers the visibility, and stays. "Mission Accomplished" is not still clear for the US. Even so, Israel has obviously not agreed yet. Note: he bankrupted a casino, which is technically impossible. we should never misunderestimate him.

President Trump needs to find an off-ramp. Militarily, Iran is no match for the power of the US and Israel. Their combined campaign has done great damage to Iran's leadership, missiles, nuclear sites, navy, and regime targets. Of the military objectives US commanders have described, there is not that much left to do. What is a weaker party to do? Expand the playing field: hit Gulf states, drain their air defense assets, activate asymmetric threats (terrorism), and cause major economic pain by shutting down Strait of Hormuz. Iran is playing a long game. The regime thinks it will survive this war, weaker and with a degraded military and proxies. But for them, survival is a form of victory. Worse, it still holds its HEU (at least some in its possession) and could try to activate additional nuclear sites for enrichment. All of its efforts are attempts to establish deterrence against being attacked again. If the war and closure of the Strait continue, there is serious risk of global economic catastrophe. The US is also enduring a major drain on air defense assets needed elsewhere, already in evidence as THAAD components are arriving in the Middle East from South Korea. There are fewer Patriots available for Europeans to buy to donate to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Russia's ailing economy gets a boost from spiking oil prices. The war in Ukraine gets longer. Trump, as he has said, can claim victory at any time. He should do so now. He will say: We have hit their leadership, missiles, nuclear sites, navy, and regime targets hard. We have left the regime much weaker, and limited their ability to project power, threaten their neighbors, and suppress their people. Their leadership knows what we are capable of, they are deterred, and if required to prevent a nuclear breakout, we have additional means of attack. We are open to talk to the new leadership about the peaceful dismantling of their nuclear program. We will shift our focus to helping the Iranian people in non-kinetic ways in fighting for their freedom and their nation. Israel's "mow the grass" strategy is widely panned. Even Israelis question it after October 7. But there is logic to shorter, periodic, suppression of threats rather than seeking their full dismantlement, when that is not possible through military means or the costs are too high -- while shifting to other means (non-kinetic support to the people) to hasten the end of the terrible regime, still a worthy goal. That is not a perfect off-ramp. Far from it. But wars end messy. (More so when they shouldn't have been started in the first place.) Unconditional surrender is rare. There is certainly no history of regime change by imposed by air power alone, and little sign it will be achieved here. It will represent a serious divergence of war aims with Israel, which wants to keep pushing for regime change and wants more time to weaken Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran may indeed not even accept a ceasefire and continue to attack, which would require some US response, scoped to encourage gradual mutual deescalation. But costs to the US, its partners, and the world are rising fast. Failing to find an imperfect off-ramp now, may lead to the utter absence of any available exit later when the costs are much higher and expansive goals are still unattainable.

Top law firms are still providing free legal services at Trump's bidding, even though doing so may be a clear violation of the law.  Just one day after the administration said it would abandon its defense of its attacks on law firms, they unsurprisingly reversed course. @RepRaskin, @SenBlumenthal, and I are continuing to demand answers — including the role Trump fixer Boris Epshteyn played in brokering these corrupt bargains.
