HCA under @rparmar_BC: 1. Still flawed after 3 years of work on it 2. Not bothering to take any of the feedback on the last version (unless you believe they could turn around 100s of pages in 2 business days) 3. They want groups to sign NDAs to vet it Three strikes on this one

UBCM and 4 business orgs are refusing to sign NDAs on the Heritage Conservation Act over concerns that the Province continues to move towards legislation without properly considering feedback provided during its latest consultation period. Full release ubcm.ca/sites/default/…

UBCM has asked BC to spend more time learning about the implications of its planned Heritage Conservation Act amendments. We're concerned about the ambiguity and number of questions that appear unconsidered, and don't believe it's ready for legislation. ubcm.ca/about-ubcm/lat…

Appreciate hearing from Williams Lake Councillor Sheila Boehm, Regional District of Nanaimo Director Vanessa Craig & Fernie Councillor Kevin McIsaac on behalf of @UBCM. Partnership is at the heart of emergency management, by working together, we are creating a safer B.C. for all.

From “urgent” to”non-negotiable” to nothing - @Dave_Eby’s sixth position on DRIPA appears to backing away from changing it entirely. My latest in @BIVnews: biv.com/news/commentar…

The pushback required for this ill conceived piece of legislation is hard to estimate. Close to 80 negative responses from individual local governments detailing why this change would be bad for British Columbians. Multiple professional organizations and sectors also involved
DouglasTodd@DouglasTodd

The @bcndp have quietly killed a controversial deregulation manouevre that would have taken away more powers from municipalities. Critics said Bill M216, launched by Nanaimo's @G_Anderson1, would have handed developers another way to weaken the professional standards designed to foster livable housing. Wrote about it in November. #bcpoli #vanre #vanpoli @Ayan604 vancouversun.com/opinion/column…

UBCM is pleased with the Province’s decision to rescind Bill M216, the Professional Reliance Act. We are also grateful to all of the local governments and professional organizations that took the time to share comments on the potential impacts of this Bill.

Thanks to our @UBCM members who provided feedback on Bill M216 and the consequences it would have on development at home in our communities. The local context matters and our voices were heard on this issue. Thanks to @christineeboyle and @BrittnyAnderso for listening.

NEW - BC Housing Minister @christineeboyle has pulled the plug on @G_Anderson1's private members bill, the Professional Reliance Act, after @UBCM and several others came out strongly opposing the changes.

Glad to see the province is listening to voices from @UBCM and others who have called for Bill M216 to not proceed. A one-size-fits-all approach to building approvals does not work for the City of Delta. Residents have been clear that decisions about our community should be made by locals, not by bureaucrats in Victoria.
