Just spoke with a manager of a restaurant in NYC. She said that since the ICE raids began 100 employees have stopped coming in to work (~30% of their staff.) She said they are hiring ppl without experience to backfill. Thoughts?

I called on the DHS to provide full transparency into the detainees at the MDC – a criminal prison – where I have been conducting oversight, and their response did not surprise me: less than a quarter of the immigrants being held there do not have a criminal conviction. And we know that none of those convictions were for serious felonies. There is simply no reason why people with no serious criminal record should be indefinitely imprisoned in a notorious prison like the MDC, where Nicolás Maduro is currently detained. Tonight, I conducted unannounced oversight at ICE’s Mesa Airport detention center with @RepYassAnsari and @Rep_Grijalva. What we saw was horrifying — crowded cells at 2-3x capacity and busses more of detainees being loaded in. This is Trump’s mass deportation machine in action.

Myself, @RepGregStanton and @RepYassAnsari just finished a surprise oversight visit at a temporary ICE holding site in Mesa, AZ. We visited immediately after learning about credible reports of overcrowding and that is exactly what we saw. The conditions are horrific.

I just conducted an unprompted, late night oversight visit at an ICE holding facility at the Mesa Gateway Airport with @RepGregStanton and @Rep_Grijalva. What we saw was shocking and sick. Well over 240 detainees stacked like sardines in cells. People were sick and ICE was refusing medical care. Here’s what happened.

@YadaYadaKvp @bloc1264 @LongTimeHistory @OxfordFarr66929 They did not successfully defend their asylum claim, a court determined that they failed to show that asylum was needed and they were determined removable. Full due process was done and the family was removed together.

How did the parents break the law? According to our reports they were following due process going through their asylum hearings and there was no deportation order and no criminal record. It appears to me that Ice took them in order to make their quotas. Until somebody shows me their criminal records, appears to be another case of Ice violating its boundaries. Obviously the people were here for quite some time the kids are settled in school and part of the community.
