@gabrieloak99 @jacklangworthy @TimelessTrvlr North and Central Oregon Coast is improving because of its proximity to the Willamette Valley. Coos Bay was trying to build an LNG export terminal but the Dems killed it. Would've come in handy right now!

Eureka, California is where fog, redwoods, and Victorian bones replace tech gloss and traffic, offering a quieter, more textured version of the coast.

So the Sublime reunion is so fascinating to me. Somehow there was a 1-in-a-million replacement for Bradley Nowell that shares not only his father's voice (easy to copy) but also his lived experiences, the product of a similarly difficult, unusual life youtu.be/9WhguJtzWuI?si…

One thing Sublime knockoffs (including even Sublime with Rome) never understood is that Sublime is not vibey lifestyle music, it's a very particular POV, dirty and squalid but also hopeful and romantic, that scans as instantly forced and fake if you try to carbon copy it

@gerlarrea @AlecStapp GLP-1 drugs kind of solved the problem in a way making both "sides" wrong : obesity was indeed caused by eating too much but obese people genuinely have an abnormally large appetite so it was never a moral thing at all.

GLP-1 drugs are the ultimate validation of the techno-solutionist approach to society's most challenging problems. The obesity crisis seemed liked it would just get worse and worse forever. Scolding from public health officials didn't work. Proposals to completely overhaul our food systems were dead on arrival. Instead, we invented a weekly shot (based on Gila monster venom!) that fixes obesity directly. And now, thanks to the economic incentives in our biomedical industry, we have follow-on drugs that will be cheaper, even more effective, and easier to administer (by taking a pill instead of a shot). Policymakers should be focused on figuring out how we can get more breakthrough drugs like GLP-1s (and faster). They also should think hard about which slopulist ideas might inadvertently kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

@TheRedNed11482 @jbarro @PatrickRuffini Right, tall-tall people require Economy Plus or higher, because their femurs don't fit. I'm 6'6" and the person in front of me can't recline at all if I'm in Economy

Booked a window seat, got a wall on this flight. Fortunately the flight is 30% full so I moved to a row with two windows. 3 other people on the entire plane have their windows open. You all don’t know what you’re missing.
Patrick Ruffini@PatrickRuffini

The latest @davidshor data has prompted an unapologetic defense from me of the window seat, a lifelong preference it turns out is lower-class coded.

@snappyratty1 @HummingbirdRSO @Noahpinion Gender uber alles. Not even on a biographical accuracy basis, either. And anti-freedom to boot. (Not than I support non-XX participation in serious female sporting competition, among other things)

Yes. Many Democrats live in a blue cultural bubble in which 2010s progressivism is the new normal. But outside that bubble, 2010s progressivism is considered radical and extremist. One reason Dems can't moderate is that they think they already ARE moderates.
Ramez Naam@ramez

Thinking about this more in relation to @Noahpinion and others' feeling that progressives / "leftists" have supplanted "liberals". Independents and Republicans see Dems as much further left in self-identification than the average Dem sees themselves. Distorted views here. Dems and Independents have much more accurate views of how Republicans self-identify.

@mwmoedinger @moseskagan Soil fertility. Irrigation doesn't matter when the discussion is land use. Like are you seriously going to argue that Lancaster has better farmland than California?

By what metric are you judging the "top ten?" Lancaster's soil regularly appears in any discussion about the best non-irrigated farmland in the US. It is incredibly productive [largely bc of the limestone base], well drained, and deep, and the area has a predictable climate with ready water supply. Large families around here regularly make a living on less than 100 acres.

3rd worldism will end golden age of American Jewry…but will also end the prominence of African American culture Subtly but inexorably, the left will replace AAs w/ omnicause 3rd worlders as the TRUE victims of western/white sins…and libs will eventually agree (1/3)
X@XaviercMiller

I said 2 years ago the NBA will be irrelevant in America within 15 years. People laughed. But this is how it starts. First ratings decline, then fan interest declines, then local media revenue declines. You don’t lose cultural dominance overnight, you slowly become less relevant until it finally shows up in the business side all at once.
