@RyanPMcGowan @MichaelFKane If you voted Red and your Child voted Blue, the odds of you off'ing yourself within the next year or so having to live with the guilt of not pressing blue is non-zero.

There's a 50% chance my child voted red. I can take that chance and also vote red or vote blue, hope they also voted blue, while also hoping that my vote is the deciding factor. If she did vote red, and I voted blue, and all the blue voters die, I would not be able to be there for her to navigate the incredibly difficult situation we are in. Inversely, I voted red and she voted blue and now I have to live without knowing if my vote would have been the deciding factor. It is a weighty decision but I would vote red because I believe that the chances of her choosing red are billions of times more likely then my vote making a difference in the outcome.

I hate to quote tweet this again, but anyone lecturing about game theory and other nonsense while pushing red is not thinking at all. Contrary to what Avengers Endgame shows, a substantial part of the population dying at once leads to rapid civilizational collapse as we lose specialists and key parts of supply chains and logistics. The pieces of a complex society no longer work. Mass dieoffs follow as food doesn't hit markets and power grids languish. Don't assume you're the one that lives. Most of you reading this have no idea what you'd do in that situation. Most every 'game theorist' betting on red in their cynicism die in 6 months. Good job, guys! 🙄
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@Jvel10 @PacingJouska Is that why it's predominantly Red voters who are trying to reason why Red is the objectively superior choice?

@PacingJouska Ya see, blue pressers know they're so wrong so they have to try to find loopholes about why they're *technically* correct. (It's bc their choice is so mentally retarded they have to do this.)

@Flapajacky @peterrhague The vote is anonymous. So the Red Vote is gambling the lives of your loved ones under the assumption they voted Red. Your individualistic choice of Red actually matters to their lives.

@peterrhague I'm convinced you're engagement farming but even still. Voting blue for you is predicated on the assumption that blue wins, meaning to you your choice doesn't actually matter. The question ultimately boils down to, do you want to risk your life or not?

I think I might be able to explain the blue button position in a way that won't piss red button pressers off too much.
Peter Hague@peterrhague

@cjsmall Blue button pushers likely act as if all games are neither anonymous nor one-shot, even when they are explicitly framed as being so. This is the building block of a high trust society.

@CalderVenn @oliveegger You're trying to over-moralise the selfish and sociopathic option, knowing not everyone will vote Red. Voting Red ensures the death of the spiritually pure. Its the "if everyone would just" argument. You're wagering that your loved ones also vote Red, fully knowing they won't.

this is really a question about, do you recognize the value of your life? if you do, why would you gamble it? you’re certainly somebody’s child, you may be somebody’s partner, i hope you are or will be somebody’s parent — you matter. a lot. why would you personally absorb the socialized risk of aggregate irrationality?

@SRHNarborough @PositivFuturist Red is the objectively sociopathic answer, and how every Red voter has to explain their reasoning as to why they have voted Red.

@PositivFuturist No, this is objectively a retard filter that you can argue is a civilisation filter. Those who are unable to contribute will not choose red. Choosing red is the moral and ethical choice.

@Parmenides5BCE @peterrhague And yet, on the most controversial, pro-conservative social media platform out there, Blue is winning by a 14% margin. You underestimate how Humans think.

@peterrhague No, it's from having even a basic understanding of the real world. Blue has no chance of winning outside of woke-ville and therefore is an immoral choice.

Typical red button argument is: “I have a higher IQ than people who correctly anticipated the outcome of the poll and therefore maximised utility in that context, because I assert in a real test that can never be done the poll would go the other way!” Behavioural string theory.

Superb piece from @tompeck who went out door-knocking with Wes Streeting in his constituency Streeting was withering about the Greens “Without traducing the entire Green Party and their activist base when I see some of the people who joined the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn, and have since left the Labour Party and joined the Greens, I feel a sense of relief “I feel sorry for the old, cuddly environmentalists who are now overrun with a bunch of people who made the Labour Party unelectable, who’ll be delighted that Zack Polanski would happily pull us out of Nato and they’ll make every excuse under the sun to defend the indefensible.” And here he is on the independents: “We’re voting for Redbridge council, not the UN security council. Who you choose to run your local council matters and the Redbridge independents represent a divisive brand of sectarian politics. I don’t want to see Redbridge becoming a basket case or a rotten borough like Tower Hamlets.” thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

The simple answer is the camera. Movies are recorded with 1/48 shutterspeed, which provides a slight motion blur to each frame. Games produce a static rendered image each frame, Independant of the previous/next frame.
Synth Potato🥔@SynthPotato

@Luzinosity True, why do games look so choppy but movies/TV look completely fine on 24fps?
