Waymo should let people buy the cars.
They should then allow users to decide if they want the car dedicated to them or optionally enter it into Waymo service during certain times and hours (eg while they’re at work).

Colorado built this wildlife overpass last year for $15 million. It’ll pay for itself within five years from the avoided collisions. California spending $114 million on a failed wildlife overpass is absurd.

My honest take: I found this discourse so lazy when I worked there, and even more boring now.
Will you get a mixed bag with so many people? obviously.
Let's put aside the fact the confirmation bias that X and social media only mention U30 when something goes wrong, not the hundreds of startups (I'm sure some in your portfolio) doing well that are alumni.
Do you really think Forbes is more to blame for FTX than Sequoia, or more than JPM with Frank?
Isn't this new startup a YC company? Are you dunking on them, too?
Lists like U30 reflect what is hot and buzzy in tech in a moment.
The interesting thing would be to reflect on how VC dollars and buzz prop these people up so they get noticed by these lists. Not pass the buck by pretending like U30 has a major role in their arcs.

Public giants: Microsoft at ~$3T on 23x forward earnings. Amazon at ~$2.3T on 28x.
Microsoft likely owns ~25% of OpenAI. Amazon likely owns ~15% of Anthropic and ~5% of OpenAI
If private investors are pricing these labs for a $5T+ venture-style outcome then…
Microsoft’s implied stake in a $5T OpenAI is $1.25T embedded inside a $3T company. Amazon’s combined stakes embed roughly $1T inside a $2.3T company.
Publics too cheap on Al exposure? Or privates/secondaries in bubble territory? Which breaks first?

@laurenlself I know a partner at a law firm in a rent stabilized unit who has been there for ~30 years. In that same time they bought a second home near the beach... the policy is utterly broken.

It is diabolical that rent control is not means-tested.
Rent control in SF is determined not by a tenant’s income, but by the building’s structure and the year it was built.
Was it built before June 1979? It’s probably rent controlled.
If Marc Andreessen or Garry Tan signed a lease in a duplex built in 1978, their landlord would not be allowed to increase their rent by more than 60% of Bay Area CPI/year (1.6% this year)
Meanwhile, an elementary school teacher living in a single family unit built just two years later in 1980 can see a 40% annual rent increase. There are no rules against that!
1 in 5 rent-controlled tenants in SF pays less than 50% of market rent. No income analysis. No verification. No one even asks!
We means-test food stamps. We means-test Medicaid. We means-test student aid.
But the biggest housing subsidy in San Francisco?
Yeah, we’re gonna base that one on whether your building was framed before or after June 1979.

Voters want jobs, not checks - "creating good-paying jobs" beats "direct income support" 54-17 as the preferred approach to AI displacement. And voters want a tax specifically on companies that profit from AI to pay for it (over a wealth tax) 49-27.

I'm going to call this right now. We are going to have a large population with absolutely no critical thinking skills if they blindly trust AI for everything.
We have all already seen it.
They don't validate outputs. They don't really understand anything. They just ask questions, it looks good, and they go with it.
There are going to be huge issues in every company as this continues over the years. The amount of technical debt and knowledge gaps are going to be insane.
So much opportunity if you actually know what you're doing.
