🚨 Load Japanese IC card with credit cards IC cards like SUICA, ICOCA, etc are like the UPIs of Japan. They are accepted almost everywhere and convenient. A must have. The only way to load physical IC cards with credit cards are the Welcome SUICA. Welcome SUICA is available in Tokyo only. At Narita, Haneda, and certain mega railway station like Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc. Tip: Get SUICA for kids (below 12 years) as we get half fares and for this don’t bother with welcome SUICA. ⚠️ Note that the balance, if any, is forfeited and validity is only 30 days. Another way is through Apple wallet but this isn’t available for Indians. So buy loads of welcome SUICA cards at Tokyo 😀

Save this tweet if you are flying to Japan more so to Tokyo Haneda. Unlike the usual situation where ATMS and forex at Airports are very expensive, I was only able to get an ATM with free cash withdrawal in Haneda Airport, right next to the area where you can get IC card. Another point, this was the only place where I was able to get IC card with credit card and no security fee but the max allowed amount was 10k yen, however you can buy mutliple IC cards. Make sure to buy multiple here as places like Kyoto have poor card acceptability but IC cards are accepted everywhere. The merchant isn't quasi cash so you get all the credit card points, I had used Olympus and this Japan trip earned me the next one way economy redemption to Europe 🇪🇺

Some places look unreal in photos and then disappoint you when you arrive. AlUla is the opposite. The moment you drive into Ashar Valley, surrounded by those towering sandstone formations, it feels like you’ve landed on another planet. That’s where Banyan Tree AlUla sits. Quietly tucked into the valley, literally metres away from Maraya. In fact, it’s right opposite the mirrored concert hall, which somehow looks even more surreal in person than it does in pictures. Getting there is fairly straightforward now. AlUla airport has direct flights from Riyadh, Jeddah, Dubai and Doha. Medina is about a three hour drive and the Red Sea resorts are roughly four hours away by road. We booked the stay through Fora under a 3rd night free offer and the rate came to around ₹1.18L with breakfast and a $100 credit. For Banyan Tree, that’s actually quite a solid shoulder season deal. One small lesson though. If you plan to redeem Accor points on a Fora booking, make sure you get written confirmation beforehand. I was initially told points redemption wasn’t possible and it was only after pulling out the email that they allowed it. The property itself is massive. The kind where you realise after the first day that walking everywhere might not be the smartest idea. Each villa comes with bicycles which actually turn out to be quite useful, though buggies are always available if you prefer. We were upgraded to a pool villa. The private pool isn’t huge but it does the job, especially in the desert heat. The villa itself is beautiful and spacious with all the modern comforts, a huge bathroom and bathtub. Outside there’s a small fire pit setup near the pool where you can request a fire in the evening and just sit back under the desert sky. And the sky here is incredible. Completely dark, completely clear. Perfect for stargazing. One of those rare places where you actually end up spending an hour just looking up. Food revolves around two restaurants. Harrat is the all day dining venue serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a mix of Arabic and global cuisine. It’s also connected to the lounge where the Banyan Tree sundowner ritual takes place and where people gather in the evenings for sheesha and drinks. The second restaurant is Saffron which focuses on Thai cuisine and opens only for dinner. Slightly unexpected to find Thai food in the Saudi desert, but it works surprisingly well. The spa was excellent and sits next to the famous Rock Pool. Treatments start around 700 SAR and go up to about 2000 SAR. We tried the Royal Banyan Tree therapy which was genuinely relaxing. The Rock Pool though has been closed for renovation for quite some time now and currently is only accessible for photographs. Guests also get complimentary rides to Maraya, which is worth visiting even if there isn’t a concert happening. What stood out about Banyan Tree AlUla is how quiet and serene it is. Almost intentionally slow. Apart from stargazing sessions there aren’t many activities within the property. If you’re someone who enjoys a bit more buzz, Our Habitas nearby might feel livelier, though Harrat lounge still works well for a relaxed evening. Getting around AlUla can be expensive since there’s practically no public transportation. We booked everything through the Banyan Tree concierge and paid using Accor points. Even our transfer from the Red Sea coast, which alone would have cost around ₹40,000, was covered that way. Short rides around Ashar Valley or to Habitas cost around 106 SAR, while a round trip to AlUla Old Town is about 450 SAR. Now for the small downside. Butler service is only available for the three bedroom villas. When travelling with family, having a dedicated butler can make a huge difference, especially in a property this large. Without that, managing restaurant reservations or figuring out activities can become a bit tedious. Service overall was decent. Not bad at all, but also not the kind that leaves you talking about it long after the trip. But here’s the part I loved the most. The final bill crossed ₹3 lakh. And we paid almost nothing. Around 1.5 lakh Accor points and just 9 SAR in cash. That’s the real magic of the Accor ecosystem when used well. We also stayed a night at Our Habitas during the same trip. If you’re travelling with kids, that property might actually be more fun. And if Habitas ever allows points redemption, I might even choose it over Banyan Tree on a future trip. Nothing really wrong with Banyan Tree AlUla. But nothing that absolutely blew me away either. AlUla itself though is extraordinary. The landscapes, the history, the warmth of the people and the food in Old Town make the destination special. It’s one of those places that quietly pulls you back. I have a feeling I’ll be returning again.

Today is my birthday. Grateful for the privilege of living so many roles in one life — , a husband, then a father, a son, a brother, a friend, a boss, and a colleague. Each role teaches you something different — about love, responsibility, patience, and leadership. I’m thankful for the people who trust me, support me, and walk this journey with me every day. Another year older, hopefully a little wiser… still learning, still growing, and trying to be a better man than yesterday. Grateful for it all. 🙏

Atul Subhash left a 24 page note and 81 minute video before he died. 9 cases. 120 court dates. 40 trips from Bengaluru to Jaunpur. Section 498A. Dowry Act. Domestic Violence Act. Child custody. He was denied visitation rights to his own son unless he paid Rs 3 crore. He alleged the judge asked Rs 5 lakh bribe to settle. He did everything right. He spoke up. He documented. He fought the system. The system laughed at him.The judge laughed at him in court. His last words were “Justice is due.” It still is. 🇮🇳
