The way you are practicing is dying. People are smart and expect better. Transparent Pricing makes sense. It’s a law that’s going to be enforced. The way you overcharge is the reason Health Insurance is so expensive in the first place. Aren’t you angry when you buy something then find the same thing for half price somewhere else? Of course you are. That’s how our patients feel. Healthcare is in collapse. It can’t be sustained. Adapt or die.

Had pt today who had surgery, doing well happy with results and was placed in a brace. Spouse insisted I refund them part of their share of cost of brace cuz they found “similar one” on Amazon. I was taken back esp after been worn a few weeks and now comes up,were insistent. This is kinda stuff that begins to burn u out after 20yrs. Pay 2k for ins,5k deductibles but the surgeon doing the surgery and supplying a brace at very reasonable cost gets shaken down. I gave them what they wanted,u know if I don’t they will: Leave a bad review or in TX file a complaint with Medical Board and then I’ll spend thousands and months defending myself since TMB says must investigate every claim. @DutchRojas Not sure about this explanation. They can only profit about 20% of premiums and thus cannot deny more claims than 20%. If the amount spent on premiums goes up, their 20% profit goes up.

Different rules for different plans: - Individual/small group: 80% to care - Large group/Medicare Advantage: 85% to care - Self-funded employer plans: Different system entirely Self-funded plans are interesting - the TPAs generate fees by processing claims, not denying them. Understanding this side of healthcare isn't just about business - it's about being better equipped to serve patients and run sustainable practices.

Their profits are set in stone by the affordable care act. They actually make more money if they provide more health care. They are just trying to buffer year-to-year variability. And in fact many things that require prior authorization are of low value.
