@trainfanmatt @BrianNe08342467 0Z45 18:30 Kidderminster SVR to Crewe Holding Sidings on 21/07/2020, where they stayed the night at @LocoServicesGrp before going on to the ELR the next day as 0Z46. 40145 had been at Barrow Hill for repairs / bogie work and picked up 40106 on its way home.

Enjoy some soothing sounds to help you sleep tonight - 40145 departing Stafford with 40106 in tow in July 2020. I can't quite remember the working & it was before I was more detailed with photos but I think 106 was being taken from the SVR to the ELR #FortyFriday

@ChimeWhistle The email from JS (if you’ve seen the full text rather than secondhand paraphrasing) states “…rest assured I remain in charge over the coming year…” - i.e. he’s not “stepped down from GBRf” nor is he “remaining in a different capacity”. More announcing his retirement in 2027.

@nickfarthing57 @ChimeWhistle Because he’s 65 in a few weeks time and already stayed at the helm much longer than many at the CEO level do.

@ChimeWhistle So he’s “stepped down from GBRf” yet in your next post “…will remain with the company… to oversee the transition”. Which one is it?

Liam Day has been made interim MD, while the search starts for a replacement. John Smith will remain with the company, to oversee the transition.

@railLKB Good post to help educate those who don’t appreciate the complexities involved. The one other main point I’d note is paths / timetabling. Queen Street is already a very busy station, as are the routes into it - so another big there’d be limited paths to fit extra services into.

A lot of people have been asking; Since Glasgow Central has been blocked off, why don't Avanti use Glasgow Queen Street? It's an interesting question to let's explore it! 🧵👇

@WilsonBone @JAT74L Counting the number of masts I’d say JT is about 1/4 mile from foot crossing, but looks a lot closer with the telephoto compression.

This lady and her dog are very lucky that I was dragging a heavy train uphill this morning at 25mph and not doing 60mph. On this occasion it wasn’t a near miss but this is a snapshot of a day in the life of a train driver. Photo by my friend John Veitch.

Twat of the day goes to the Audi A4 driver who was driving at speed like a lunatic , undertook at slip lane to rejoin the M74 in front of a lorry and car over chevrons and missing signage … this person was doing approx 90-100 as I was at 65mph

More on the sleeper test trains. Adjustments have been made to the wheel sets to try and soften the ride, due to complaints from passengers.

@neilatkin37 @colasgrid @stephen37292ML @bessbbe @SydneyBridgeTMD No they couldn’t as a) don’t have sufficient ETS for a full rake of Mk5s and b) don’t have sufficient diesel power to work the trains away from the wires either routinely on the north of EDB routes or as an “emergency” via S&C etc. Most don’t have Dellners either.

@ChimeWhistle You’ve been misinformed, as none of the “spare” sleepers at Polmadie have wheelflats. It’s the annual off-peak period when sets run as Load 14s to facilitate periodic heavy maintenance, hence the coaches not in service are stopped and none were available at (very) short notice.

I'm also told the spare set of sleepers at Polmadie also has wheel flats.

Big problems with the sleeper tonight.Glasgow to Euston will be formed of only a seated carriage and the club car – all sleeper carriages have been removed at Polmadie.Sleeper passengers will be put on Fort William/Inverness portions of the Highlander and Ed portion of Lowlander.

@CalSleeper But is it also now possible to do a "fifth freedom"-style trip between Euston and Birmingham in one of the seats that will be/was used by an international passenger travelling between B'ham and Scotland?

Yesterday was a very special and historic day for Caledonian Sleeper as we picked up guests from Birmingham International for the first time - the biggest change to our timetable in 30 years! 🚆 Guests can now board at Birmingham International and travel directly to Fort William, Inverness or Aberdeen. Our Managing Director Graham Kelly was joined by Andrew Lovett from West Midlands Tourism & Hospitality Board, Cllr. Karen Grinsall from Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Helen Bates from Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, Steven Harrison from Birmingham Airport, Peter Sargant of West Midlands Rail and Nikki Bains from Birmingham Airport.

@ChimeWhistle @andycomfort …the ‘Sleeper’ 92s have been operational for the last 10+ years clocking up 100,000s of miles on the Beds, so the fact some were stored prior to 2015 has no relevance to how they perform now. Incidentally they’re GBRf’s 92s (not CS’s) and none of them were stored in a field! 2/2

@ChimeWhistle @andycomfort You need better sources…!! The NR dispensation to turn off some of the more troublesome “Tunnel gizmos” (ICMU/DLF) only applies on the WCML, so these remain switched on when on ECML - which causes more 92 misbehaviour. But this has been the case since 2015 - it’s not new! 1/2
