@forallcurious I'm confused; doesn't a basic RO filter do this already & achieve over 99% removal of them? What did she do that's new? Would sure be helpful if there was a link with more info.

Great quote from @shellenberger: “A gallon of jet fuel contains 34 kilowatt-hours of energy in a package weighing six pounds. A lithium-ion battery storing the same energy weighs 250 pounds. That density gap is why every military on earth runs on liquid hydrocarbons, why every container ship crossing the Pacific burns bunker fuel, why every combine harvester in Iowa runs on diesel, and why every 747 landing at Heathrow runs on kerosene. The fact that nobody wages war over solar panels is evidence of their limitations not superiority.” Bottom Line: The laws of physics and thermodynamics are laws, not mere suggestions.

Higgy
Higgy@higgyboson·
Me and Mrs Higgy occasionally like to go out for a cooked breakfast (usually the local golf club or (believe it or not) bike shop), a lunchtime snack, (garden centre, cafe in a park etc) or an evening meal at various local pubs/restaurants. We like to support local businesses. But all these things have become increasingly expensive over the past couple of years. Paying £11 for a tea, coffee and single slice of cake is ridiculous. A sausage sandwich now costs £7.50. A burger from a van is £5.50. £5.50 for a 30p burger in a 20p bread roll is nuts. A very simple one course evening meal with a drink each costs at least £45.00. So we've decided to stop doing it. We live in a great part of the country so we'll still go out, but with a picnic and a flask of Earl Grey. I'm self employed and Mrs Higgy is a retired NHS Staff Nurse. We have no mortgage or rent to pay so we should be out and about frequenting these places on a regular basis but the truth is - We REALLY begrudge paying the prices. We can't be alone. I have no idea how normal families on average incomes can afford to eat out at the moment with EVERYTHING going up in price. I can see the almost total collapse of the hospitality sector in the not too distant future. I'll be as guilty as all the millions of others scaling back on their patronage of pubs and restaurants etc but I've been pushed too far and I'm not playing this game any more.

You clearly have low standards A person with morals and integrity doesn't hire people like Miliband and doesn't appoint two good friends of Miliband to do the vetting He also doesn't appoint tax dodgers, other friends of paedophiles, landlords who exploit their tennsnts, people with actual criminal convictions and so on... Good people also don't try to cancel elections or limit free speech Good people stand for something and don't change their minds every 5 minutes And good people don't take an important job while not having the first idea how to do it Keir Starmer is not a good person. He thinks he is but the evidence of his actual behaviour says otherwise

I really like Keir Starmer. He’s a good man with morals & integrity. You can see how much it means to him to do things right & when he makes a mistake, it pains him. Many previous Prime Ministers couldn’t care less, as long as their mistakes were hidden.

Please do give me examples of a trans man (woman) beating real men to their hard won prizes, or pummelling a real man in a boxing ring.... In other words, give me examples of trans men (women) having an unfair bodily advantage over men. Of course its about fairness you misogynistic woman hating man.
Thomas Willett@ThomasWillett9

The new Olympic rule bans only trans women from women’s events; trans men aren’t mentioned at all. If this were truly about fairness and safety, it would apply consistently. Targeting one specific group raises serious questions about the real motive.

15 year old son had a blood test. Doctor asked me to ring on Friday for the results. Receptionist said “we can’t give you his results because he is over 14 and hasn’t given explicit consent.” This isn’t to empower or protect kids, this is the State incrementally removing parents as the primary guardian of children while children are still naive and suggestible.

@afneil @7Kiwi Sadly it's what we've always done. Huge expenditure on big weapons which were mostly obsolete. We're still doing it. Stop buying from the US and start dealing with Israel.

The current state of the Royal Navy: 2 aircraft carriers — neither operational. 6 Type 45 destroyers (our most powerful warships) — one operational (in Cyprus). 7 Type 23 frigates (less powerful, much older) — three operational 5 Astute class nuke-powered subs — one operational (in Arabian Sea?). Surely those responsible for this appalling state of unreadiness (a national embarrassment if ever there was one)— political, civilian and military — should be fired/charged. Their incompetence has effectively left us without a navy. Quite an achievement for an ancient island nation.

ChatGPT made this graphic for me to illustrate the pump price of petrol... The fuel duty is higher than the crude oil component And then we pay VAT including on the fuel duty!! When @RachelReevesMP talks about fuel profiteering she needs to look in the mirror @griffitha @ClaireCoutinho

I suspect dear Lenny thinks that Britain invented slavery And that the Pryramids were presumably built by volunteers
The British Patriot@TheBritLad

Lenny Henry wants Britain to cough up £18 trillion in reparations because 'all black British people personally deserve money for the effects of slavery.' Funny how he skips the part where Britain was the first major power to ban the slave trade in 1807, then sent the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron to patrol the coast for decades. They seized 1,600 slave ships and freed 150,000 Africans .. at the cost of British sailors' lives and huge expense. Britain didn't just stop its own involvement; it actively fought to end the trade globally. Meanwhile, in Africa today (per the Global Slavery Index), countries like Eritrea, Mauritania, South Sudan, Nigeria and others still have some of the world's highest rates of modern slavery .. forced labour, child soldiers, hereditary servitude, trafficking. Millions trapped right now. And Lenny's own roots? Jamaica (his parents' homeland). It still has notable modern slavery issues too, including forced labour and exploitation. So... demanding trillions from British taxpayers (including black Brits) for 200-year-old history, while African and Caribbean nations haven't fully confronted slavery's continuation on their own soil? That's not justice. That's selective outrage and hypocrisy. Focus on ending slavery today everywhere .. not guilt-tripping one country that helped stop it yesterday.

Under the UK’s system of ministerial accountability to Parliament, the speaker of the house can - Require an answer to be relevant to the question. Intervene if an answer is too long or clearly off-topic. Judge the quality or completeness of an answer.

Roads falling apart. Potholes everywhere. It costs around £60–£80 to fix one, but thousands are left untouched. Hard to justify full road tax when the basics aren’t being maintained, should the tax be cut?

@SBarrettBar Hoyle has said it's not his job. Starmer is dreadful but very few PMs have ever answered a question. These institutions haven't had any value for years. Badenoch should ask only one question repeatedly to highlight it.
