@the_transit_guy Bruh, those right turn lanes should be bike lanes, and the third lane should be BTR lane or Light Rail. But there's a huge potential for multimodal transit 🔥👌🏽

Park Avenue used to have a park in the median of it, hence it's name. It's time to bring that back.

@OldHendersonMan @TheOmniZaddy @SwannMarcus89 I don’t think that’s a high enough line item budget to make a huge dent. 9 years is already solid tho, especially since the main benefit is rider experience, not direct revenue increases

This BART fare dodging thing is amazing because this is literally the only time I’ve ever seen San Francisco do a public project that didn’t go wildly over budget and recouped the investment earlier than expected

@mllichti @TheOmniZaddy @SwannMarcus89 There is 0 chance they recouped the 90 million cost in 6 months. Anyone saying that is not a credible source. For the maintenance, here is says 961 hours disappeared in six months, at 30 an hour that’s 30k, way less than 10 mil

@SumElseThing1 Well, usually you don’t get the chance to save a lot of people would otherwise get hit by cars

Without the specter of "coordination problems" requiring high-minded intellectuals' intervention haunting your imaginarium, choosing red is no more complicated than mundane decisions we trust people with every day. - Don't cross the street in front of a speeding truck. - Don't drink bleach or brush your teeth with drain cleaner or any of a hundred other poisons you encounter on a daily basis. - Etc. 8/9

@Lib_Development Huh, maybe I’m just thinking about it from a BART perspective, but I thought deinterlining generally helped travel to a non central location. It’s probably too specific to the system to generalize tho.

@acher_2 @LinkofSunshine @justalexoki and then it becomes even clearer that red is the right choice. think of how far we could go without idiotic performative bleeding hearts who can’t understand a simple question.

“Oh I pressed the kill myself button so now you also have to press the kill yourself button to save me from my decision 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺” Just don’t press the god damn kill yourself button???
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@justalexoki Once you realize that the blue bottom does nothing and the experiment is just “would you press a button that kills yourself unless 4 billion press it” it’s obvious to me

@decunningham2 And I get it’s gonna be impossible to just snap ur fingers and go to proportions representation, but seems like the only long term solution to me. Like I don’t see any inherent value in “non-jagged lines” and if it’s a proxy for fairness, just go to straight to fairness.

@decunningham2 That makes sense. How do you think we should choose between different maps with non-jagged / irregular lines that benefit parties differently? This discussion just seems hard to me since if even “non-gerrymandered” maps can be so unfair, what’s the point?

So to put a pin in the New England gerrymandering discussion - in a take that will likely please nobody: 1) New England is gerrymandered 2) The effect of this is pretty minimal If you redraw every state you can get 5 more competitive seats (2 in CT, 2 in MA, 1 in RI). BUT...
