For those who can’t read the room: President Trump’s threat to blow up Iranian energy infrastructure isn’t even explicitly aimed at the Iranian regime. It’s aimed at China. Ask yourself: who’s really the ‘biggest loser’ if the Iranian regime can’t continue exporting oil? Bingo. I’d expect to see some major decisions coming out of Beijing in the next 48 hours.

IBM built a cloud of suits to make sure the CEO never talked to anyone actually doing the work. @elonmusk does the opposite. "Elon's method is extreme focus on substance. Extreme focus on getting to the truth. In any organization with multiple layers, there's compounding lies. Each layer wants to look good. Each layer puts a little spin on things. If one layer lies to the next layer above it, maybe that's okay. When that happens two or three times, the lies compound. If that happens six times, the lies really compound. If that happens 12 times, the CEO has no idea what's happening. That was IBM. By the time I got there as an intern, I calculated there were 12 layers of management between me and the CEO. They even had a term for it: the great cloud. A cloud of men in gray business suits who followed the CEO around and prevented him from ever talking to anybody who was actually doing the work. When he would come to visit, it was like a visit from the king. A completely impervious bubble. That's the polar opposite of the Elon approach." — @pmarca

@THChrisB I lived near the border of Canada with -40 f winter days. Yes you still do this in the mornings at least. Turn off heat. Tiny crack in 2 windows for 5-10 minutes. Close windows. Wait 5-10 min for air to heat back up, then turn on the furnace again. You're not heating the outdoors

@asparagoid @sagewilyam @Rightanglenews Not sure if you are serious or not but the reason they breed so much is because western nations send them trillions of dollars over the past few decades specifically to get them to breed more without having to work or really do anything

@sagewilyam @Rightanglenews Somewhat, but also genetic, to much controversy. We have a lot of adoption and environmental variance data now where pretty much everything is controlled My own perspective is that we Koreans need to learn how to breed from Africans

@sagewilyam @asparagoid @Rightanglenews Not true in the slightest. We have decades of twin studies. Take an infant out of an African country, have it raised by intelligent Asians, and it will still have the same IQ of its parents. Maybe several percent higher.

Hormuz is a weapon that can only be fired once No one should expect a quick resolution to the current crisis, but across the next decade, even the next 3-5 years, the choke point of Hormuz will be massively substituted for The Gulf Arab states are all very rich, with high per capita GDP - the best single measure of relative state capacity - easy access to global markets, especially financial, and have the favorable backing of the US Everyone has known about the Hormuz vulnerability for decades. The Iranians have continually hinted around closing it, but never did. Now they have, but Hormuz is a gun that cannot be reloaded. Deterrents work only up to the point of use. Once used, they have failed. The purpose of a deterrent is to *not* be used Many analysts have made this basic mistake. They think that Iran is now in a position of strength, having exercised its Hormuz option. But the opposite is true. A state is weakest after it has used its deterrent. The cost of that deterrence is now priced in. The worst having been done, the targets of the deterrent are now free to make other arrangements. Before, they were reluctant to do so because of the switching costs. Now, they have no choice; they will not allow themselves to be controlled in this way again Hormuz may never reopen. But the importance of this is a depreciating asset.

You’re not getting it. They attacked Fordo and “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities. So if her intelligence tells Trump they had no chance of rebuilding their nuclear program, why would we need to attack them again because of a fear of Iran having nuclear weapons? Also, if their intelligence shows we’ve “decimated” Iran’s military capabilities (Trump’s words), why would we need to request support from other countries to “secure the Strait of Hormuz”? Better yet, how is Iran still attacking Qatar with bombardments if their military capability is “decimated”?

Markets seem to be operating under some weird assumptions right now: 1) The US (or even US + coalition) can secure shipping Even if they secure the strait Iran has an entire coastline. It only takes one drone or rocket hitting a ship before no shipper/insurer will take the risk

The market thinks that your assumptions are likely wrong. If Trump pulls out, that’s that for America. Iran has no say in anything. Can they keep the strait closed? Maybe through fear, but even then America is a producer and we could just keep more of our oil for domestic use and hardly feel the pain (as compared to everyone else)
