Plato - Fewer than 210 manuscripts prove his existence Alexander the Great - Fewer than 15 manuscripts prove his existence Genghis Khan - Fewer than 10 manuscripts prove his existence Julius Caesar - Fewer than 10 manuscripts prove his existence Jesus the Christ - Approx. 25,000 manuscripts prove His existence!

@JoshuaAtLarge That’s not how it works. The number of surviving *much later* manuscripts is determined by all kinds of factors, but the existence of the subject of the stories in them is not a significant part of those. This is a terrible argument.

Not only does Jesus have the most documents. But he has a solid chain of custody of learned disciples. Even tho they differ in interpretations and applications. Gods word, Jesus and the Apostles teaching has never been dead and forgotten. He has had a solid lineage from all over the world in multiple languages. Rome may claim what they want, but there’s never been a central authority that has had the ability to alter or change the scriptures and get away with it. This is a positive, not a negative. Jews also love to argue with each other and nobody has ever had the power to change the Word. Jews and Christians would also never let the other one change it. Jesus was a real man, was born, was alive, died, and now he’s alive again forever more. And he has the keys to death and hell.

@JoshuaAtLarge We don't have ANY contemporary documents from the time that Jesus was supposed to have lived. No Roman history of ANY of his exploits or any of the events surrounding his supposed crucifixion. It's almost as if he never existed or none of that happened. Hmmm???

@JoshuaAtLarge Most of them were written many hundreds of years after the alleged events! If I printed out 100,000 copies of a text written many hundreds of years ago, would that prove it is accurate? No it would be irrelevant.

@JoshuaAtLarge Manuscripts may/may not be primary sources. For eg. I can write a story on Joshua Smith. 100 years later that story won't prove you existed. Your birth certificates, official records, your tweets and other documents like degrees, tax certificates etc will prove you existed.

@JoshuaAtLarge I get the idea, but other physical artifacts exist for Caesar and Alexander the Great. Rome was sort of a thing for a bit. Lots of statues of them and well, buildings.

Cool. Okay so a dude named Jesus existed. Doesn't get us to that dude. Was crucified and resurrected But let's say for a second that it did get us too. He was crucified and resurrected... That doesn't get us to the correct explanation for the resurrection 🤨 It's like y'all got not even to the starting line and our celebrating is if you made it to the finish line 😅

The manuscript argument is one of the weakest & hurts a Christian's credibility FAR more than it helps Very few people argue against a "historical" Jesus, it's the divinity claims that lack consensus especially when you realize that many of his "miracles" are simply repackaged from older cultures I mean no disrespect, just a thought

@JoshuaAtLarge This is an incredibly retarded argument. It addresses what? No one is saying Yeshuah Ben Youssef Ha-Nozri did not exist. We are just saying we are skeptical he was more divine than me or thee.

@JoshuaAtLarge False metric. Heretics and their books were burned by both political and religious leaders for more than a thousand years. The books that survived are those that they wanted you to read. A more definitive source of information is long buried inscriptions. That is all.

Aside from that, the accounts of the hundreds of separate, unique individuals from completely different places all gave accounts of either seeing him or touching him after he was buried in the tomb. You can't get 500 people to agree the sun is blue but these people who had - many of them - never met each other or spoken beforehand all gave accounts of seeing him risen. Mass hallucination? I think not.

@JoshuaAtLarge Thats what an intellectual troglodyte would say. 99% of these manuscripts about your favourite dead carpenter are from the medieval period. Zero manuscripts contemporary. Btw. he existed, but he is wormfood since 33 CE

@JoshuaAtLarge There are only about 5,800 Greek manuscripts. Remaining 19,000 are translations into Latin, Syriac, Coptic, and Armenian. Many of these "manuscripts" are just tiny fragments the size of a credit card, or they date from the 9th to the 15th century—long after the events took place.

@JoshuaAtLarge I really think it would have helped Christianity tremendously if Jesus himself had written down all his sermons' teachings and interactions with the people of the time.

@JoshuaAtLarge Based on that logic, how many manuscripts prove Harry Potter's existence? Yeshua (Joshua) of Nazareth likely existed. He was a man. He is dead.

@JoshuaAtLarge Oooooh, if only these were 25000 were primary sources from the time of his supposed life. Plato and Caesar wrote texts, and Alex has contemporary writers, coins, and 27 cities named after him. Jesus...crickets. It is quality not quantity that matters here

@JoshuaAtLarge No manuscripts prove anyone's existence. Contemporary corroborating evidence of what's in the manuscript does. The majority of those 25000 are either fragments or translated copies of the same handful of manuscripts. With no contemporary corroborating evidence for what's in them.
